Efficacy of Watercourse Lining in Sindh —A Review Study in Relation with Kohistan Region

The total number of watercourses in Pakistan is about 110,000 and particularly in Sindh it is about 46,699, out of which 7576 have been lined from 1977 to 1998 and from 2004 to 2015;22,479 have been lined and the remaining 16,644 still require improvement. At the current rate of progress, the lining of remaining watercourses would further take about 21 years. As designed life of the improved watercourse is about 25 years. By the time of ending of many watercourse improvement programs, there will again require the rehabilitation on many of the earlier watercourse lining schemes. Generally two types of watercourse lining are practiced in Sindh i.e. Rectangular Lined Watercourses (with single and double brick walls) and Trapezoidal Concrete Lined Watercourses. Because of efficient, effectiveness, easy maintenance and repair work, the Rectangular Lined Watercourse is more frequently practiced in Sindh. It is now suggested that: to renovate the watercourses an accelerated program should be started and the system (with the sense of terms and conditions) for renovation of watercourses program should also be changed. The research work towards different types of lining materials for watercourse should be conducted. Looking to the brief review it is suggested that a fiber glass type plastic material with semi-circular or U-shaped, pre-cast fabricated RCC Trapezoidal or Parabolic in place of brick mortar and concrete could be used for watercourse lining. This methodology, proposed to be used, will enable us to determine cost-benefit ratio, life span and such other parameters for its feasibility under variable climatic conditions of Sindh (North Sindh being dry and hot, while South Sindh semi-humid and warm).

An asymmetrical multilevel inverter with minimum voltage stress and fewer components for photovoltaic renewable-energy system

Accurate software cost estimation in Global Software Development(GSD)remains challenging due to reliance on historical data and expert *** models,such as the Constructive Cost Model(COCOMO II),rely heavily on historical and accurate *** addition,expert judgment is required to set many input parameters,which can introduce subjectivity and variability in the estimation ***,there is a need to improve the current GSD models to mitigate reliance on historical data,subjectivity in expert judgment,inadequate consideration of GSD-based cost drivers and limited integration of modern technologies with cost *** study introduces a novel hybrid model that synergizes the COCOMO II with Artificial Neural Networks(ANN)to address these *** proposed hybrid model integrates additional GSD-based cost drivers identified through a systematic literature review and further vetted by industry *** article compares the effectiveness of the proposedmodelwith state-of-the-artmachine learning-basedmodels for software cost *** the NASA 93 dataset by adopting twenty-six GSD-based cost drivers reveals that our hybrid model achieves superior accuracy,outperforming existing *** findings indicate the potential of combining COCOMO II,ANN,and additional GSD-based cost drivers to transform cost estimation in GSD.

The surveillance of arsenic levels in the drinking water of primary schools and the assessment of the potential cancer-related health risks of children in Multan, Pakistan

To investigate the levels of arsenic(As)in the groundwater and drinking water of primary schools and their potential impact on human health is main objective of this *** assess risk,the following parameters i.e.,carcinogenic indices(CI),hazardous indexes(HI),carcinogenic risk(CR),and hazardous quotient(HQ)have been measured for both dermal and oral arsenic *** study has been focused on primary schools located in four tehsils of Multan,where water samples were *** levels,with concentrations ranging from 3.31 to 191 mg/l,exceeding the safe limit set by the World Health Organization(WHO)have been detected in 99.9%of the *** results show that arsenic content ranged from 3.31 to 191 mg/l,with 99.9%of the samples exceeding the World Health Organization's safe limit of 10 mg/*** CR and CI exceeded the USEPA limit of 10–6 in all four tehsils ranged from 2.6×10^(-6) to 9.4×10^(-6) and 0.00023 to 0.0009 respectively in both dermal and oral cases.,Multan Sadar(1.51,1.39)and Multan City(1.76,1.71)exhibited HI and HQ values that surpassed the threshold of 1.0,signaling a significant likelihood of chronic and cancer-causing health consequences for individuals who are exposed to polluted water causing *** findings suggest that the groundwater in the Multan district poses a significant health risk to humans due to high levels of arsenic *** contamination is associated with an increased risk of mortality from internal cancers(including liver,kidney,lung,and bladder),as well as a higher HI&CI incidence of skin ***,pregnancy outcomes are affected,with associations found between arsenic exposure and lower birth weight,and infant *** researchers propose that water supply organizations and educational institutions promptly take measures to ensure that the affected areas have access to arsenic-free drinking water for the well-being of students and residents.

Oil blending is the method of choice used worldwide to improve oxidative stability and nutritional *** is no such edible oil/fat that meets all the recommendations from the health point of *** fatty acid composition of vegetable oils decides the fate of the *** single oil is unable to provide a balanced amount of fatty acids(FAs)required/recommended on a daily intake *** oils/fats is an appropriate procedure of physically mixing multiple oils in suitable proportions which may provide functional lipids with improved antioxidant potential and desirable physical and chemical *** review piled up the accessible data on the blending of diverse oils/fats in the combination of binary,ternary,quaternary,or other types of oils into a single blended *** can be found very convincing towards appropriate FA profile,enhancement in physicochemical characteristics,and augmented stability for the period of storage or when used as cooking/frying processes which could ultimately serve as an effectual dietary intervention towards the health protectiveness.

Impacts of environmental factors on urban heating

This study investigated the impact of important environmental variables （i.e., wind speed, solar radiation and cloud cover） on urban heating. Meteorological parameters for fifteen years （from 1990 to 2005）, collected at a well developed and densely populated commercial area （Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong）, were analyzed in details. Urban heat island intensity （UHII）, a well known indicator of urban heating, has been determined as the spatially averaged air-temperature difference between Tsim Sha Tsui and Ta Kwu Ling （a thinly populated rural area with lush vegetation）. Results showed that the UHII and cloud cover have increased by around 9.3% and 4%, respectively, whereas the wind speed and solar radiation have decreased by around 24% and 8.5%, respectively. The month of December experienced the highest UHII （10.2℃） but the lowest wind speed （2.6 m/sec） and cloud cover （3.8 oktas）. Conversely, the month of April observed the highest increases in the UHII （over 100%） and the highest decreases in wind speed （over 40 %） over fifteen years. Notably, the increases in the UHII and reductions in the wind speed were the highest during the night-time and early morning. Conversely, the intensity of solar radiation reduced while the intensity of urban cool island （UCII） increased during solar noon-time. Results demonstrated strong negative correlation between the UHII and wind speed （coefficient of determination, R^2 = 0.8） but no negative correlation between UCII and solar radiation attenuation. A possible negative correlation between UHII and cloud cover was investigated but could not be substantiated.

Effect of silica fume on the fresh and hardened properties of fly ash-based self-compacting geopolymer concrete

The effect of silica fume on the fresh and hardened properties of fly ash-based self-compacting geopolymer concrete （SCGC） was investigated in this paper. The work focused on the concrete mixes with a fixed water-to-geopolymer solid （W/Gs） ratio of 0.33 by mass and a constant total binder content of 400 kg/m3. The mass fractions of silica fume that replaced fly ash in this research were 0wt%, 5wt%, 10wt%, and 15wt%. The workability-related fresh properties of SCGC were assessed through slump flow, V-funnel, and L-box test methods. Hardened concrete tests were limited to compressive, splitting tensile and flexural strengths, all of which were measured at the age of 1, 7, and 28 d after 48-h oven curing. The results indicate that the addition of silica fume as a partial replacement of fly ash results in the loss of workability; nevertheless, the mechanical properties of hardened SCGC are significantly improved by incorporating silica fume, especially up to 10wt%. Applying this percentage of silica fume results in 4.3% reduction in the slump flow; however, it increases the compressive strength by 6.9%, tensile strength by 12.8% and flexural strength by 11.5%.

Conservation status evaluation of Berberis species across the Karakoram Mountain Ranges, Pakistan using IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria

Berberis species medicinal plants in Pakistan are endangered, high-value with important eco-cultural, commercial and livelihood roles in mountain communities. To assess the geographical distribution of Berberis species across the Karakoram Mountain Ranges in Pakistan, we used IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria （2001） to calculate the extent of occurrence （EOO, 〈100 km^2） and the area of occupancy （AOO, 〈10 km^2） of Berberis pseudumbellata subsp, pseudumbellata and B. pseudumbellata subsp. gilgitica. Overgrazing and habitat loss were key population- limiting factors. The two subspecies had contrasting responses to temperature, elevation, precipitation and insect susceptibility. B. pseudumbellata subsp, gilgitica is endemic to Gilgit-Baltistan and grows in single-cropping zone （ar- eas 〉 200 m a.s.1.）. Status evaluation revealed that both subspecies meet the criteria set for critically endangered species. Prolonged disregard of its declining population trend might lead to its extinction; therefore, integrated con- servation efforts are necessary.

An Open IoT Framework Based on Microservices Architecture

With the continuous development and evolvement of Internet of Things （IoT）, monolithic application becomes much larger in scale and even more complex in structure. This leads to poor scalability, extensibility and maintainability. In response to those challenges, microservice architecture has been introduced in the field of IoT application, due to its flexibility, lightweight and loose coupling. However, the existing loT framework of microservice mainly focus on a specific domain, therefore, this greatly limits its application. In this paper, we propose a general microservice system framework for the loT application, which is a better scalable, extendable and maintainable architecture. We introduce its system design and related microservices, and emphasize on core service and device communication from service layer to physical layer. It has better capacity to support interoperability and accommodate heterogeneous objects. In addition, this framework can easily achieve more application integration such as automation, intelligence, Geo service and Big Data.

Owing to the 4.0 industrial revolution condition monitoring maintenance is widely accepted as a useful approach to avoiding plant disturbances and ***,Motor Current Signature Analysis(MCSA)is widely reported as a condition monitoring technique in the detection and identification of individual andmultiple Induction Motor(IM)***,checking the fault detection and classification with deep learning models and its comparison among them selves or conventional approaches is rarely reported in the ***,in this work,wepresent the detection and identification of induction motor faults with MCSA and three Deep Learning(DL)models namely MLP,LSTM,and ***,we have developed the model of Squirrel Cage induction motor in MATLAB and simulated it for single phasing and stator winding faults(SWF)using Fast Fourier Transform(FFT),Short Time Fourier Transform(STFT),and Continuous Wavelet Transform(CWT)to detect and identify the healthy and unhealthy conditions with phase to ground,single phasing and in multiple fault conditions using Motor Current Signature *** faults impact on stator current is presented in the time and frequency domain(i.e.,power spectrum).The simulation results show that the scalogram has shown good results in time-frequency analysis for fault and showing its impact on the energy of current during individual fault and multiple fault *** is further investigated with three deep learning models(i.e.,MLP,LSTM,and 1D-CNN)for checking the fault detection and identification(i.e.,classification)improvement in a three-phase induction *** simulating the three-phase induction motor in various healthy and unhealthy conditions in MATLAB,we have collected current signature data in the time domain,labeled them accordingly and created the 50 thousand samples dataset for DL *** the DL models are trained and validated with a suitable number of architecture *** simulation,the multiclass confusion
