The impact of personality on the success of prospecting behavior in changing landscapes

Personality can play a large role in dispersal decisions, influencing how each individual estimates and values ex- pected costs versus benefits of ventnring out to explore the unknown. We contrast the impact of persistence on fitness using deci- sion theory models to examine the relative success of prospecting movement （which is a widespread behavior used by animals to explore available breeding habitat before determining where to settle） in different landscapes among individuals with different personalities. While evaluating trends in the costs and benefits of movement we provide a quantifiable measure of the impacts of relative tenacity in prospecting behavior on fitness gains/losses. Our model results predict that, regardless of landscape composi- tion, individuals with greater tenacity in prospecting strategy have reduced fitness gains relative to individuals who are more willing to both initiate novel strategies, but then also abandon the new strategy rapidly if initial search does not seem fruitful. We show that fitness gains from choosing an appropriate prospecting strategy （i.e. abandoning poor habitat or staying in rich habitat） can be very high, indicating a potentially large influence from personality on fitness. Importantly, the model predicts that relative fitness gains are highly dependent on the availability of high quality habitat in the landscape, even if the difference under varying fitness outcomes between poor and rich habitat was substantial

Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2) is not only an enzyme but also a functional receptor on cell membrane for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2). Here, the activity of ACE2 in single living cell is firstly determined using a nanokit coupled electrospray ionization mass spectrometry(nanokit-ESI-MS). Upon the insertion of a micro-capillary into the living h ACE2-CHO cell and the electrochemical sorting of the cytosol, the target ACE2 enzyme hydrolyses angiotensin II inside the capillary to generate angiotensin 1-7. After the electrospray of the mixture at the tip of the capillary, the product is differentiated from the substrate in molecular weight to achieve the detection of ACE2 activity in single cells. The further measurement illustrates that the inflammatory state of cells does not lead to the significant change of ACE2 catalytic activity, which elucidates the relationship between intracellular ACE2 activity and inflammation at single cell level. The established strategy will provide a specific analytical method for further studying the role of ACE2 in the process of virus infection, and extend the application of nanokit based single cell analysis.

The hourly summer precipitation simulations over East Asia by the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Science Climate System Model(CAMS-CSM)high-resolution Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project(AMIP)runs(T255,~50 km)were evaluated based on the merged hourly precipitation product released by the China Meteorological Administration(CMA).The results show that the simulation biases are closely related to the topography,with the precipitation amount and frequency overestimated(underestimated),and duration of precipitation events being longer(shorter),over the western high-altitude(eastern plain)regions of *** regions with large discrepancies were further *** terms of the frequency-intensity structure,the overestimation of precipitation frequency is mainly due to the excessive simulated weak precipitation over the four regions with positive biases:the southern edge of the Tibetan Plateau(STP),the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau(NETP),the eastern periphery of the Tibetan Plateau(EPTP),and the mountainous area of North China(NCM);while the underestimation of frequency is mainly due to the insufficient precipitation with moderate intensity over the two regions with negative biases:lower reaches of the Yangtze River(LYR)and the South China coast(SCC).Based on the duration-diurnal structure analysis,two kinds of precipitation events with different natures can be *** long-duration night to early morning precipitation events have a significant contribution to the precipitation amount biases for all the six key regions,and this kind of precipitation mainly affects the precipitation diurnal variation over the mountainous areas or steep *** the short-duration afternoon precipitation events only have a greater contribution to the precipitation amount biases over the SCC region,this kind of precipitation affects the diurnal variation over the NCM region and the two key regions with negative *** a detailed hourly-scale evalua

The Litang fault is a left-lateral secondary shear zone in the Sichuan-Yunnan active block that accommodates the tectonic deformation associated with the eastward extrusion of the upper crust of the Tibetan Plateau. Based on 1 : 50 000 geological mapping of active faults, the Litang fault consists of three geometric segments, the Cuopuhu, Damaoyaba, and Litang segments, in the west of Litang, which are divided by the of Haizi Mountain uplift and the wide-angle bending and branching of the fault near Jinchanggou. This study also identifies the surface rupture of the A.D. 1890 earthquake, which is distributed intermittently along the ~28 km long Damaoyaba segments and ~25 km long Litang segments. The maximum horizontal displacement is 4.1 m along Damaoyaba segments, and 4 m along Litang segments. The rupture involves typical left-lateral shear movement. The two ruptures are divided by discontinuous segments or gaps that are ~18 km long;thus, the total surface rupture is approximately 71 km long. The estimated moment magnitude was M_(w)7.3±0.1. A comprehensive analysis of data obtained from 5 trenches excavated along the Damaoyaba and Litang segments and the trench data by Xu et al.(2005) identifies age constraints of the 4 most recent paleoseimic events occurred B.C. 1468±54–1340±25, B.C. 52±25–A.D. 76±47, A.D. 1115±90, and A.D. 1890, respectively. The recurrence intervals are 1 415±80, 1 104±104, and 775±90 a, which are consistent with quasi-periodic earthquake recurrence behavior. The average recurrence interval is 1 098±112 a.

Validity of long-term and short-term recall of occupational sitting time in Finnish and Chinese office workers

To investigate interferon-γ-inducible protein-10’s (IP-10) potential to anticipate rapid (RVR)- and sustained virological responses (SVR) to chronic hepatitis C (CHC) treatment. METHODSWe included case series examining RVR or SVR in relation to 24 or 48 wk treatment for CHC, in patients treatment free for at least six months, with genotype 1 or 4, and in relation to 24 wk treatment for genotype 2 and 3, with pegylated interferon in combination with ribavirin. Patients had to have both a baseline IP-10 level as well as a hepatitis C virus (HCV)-RNA determination 4 wk after treatment initiation or 24 wk after end of treatment. Studies including patients with liver diseases other than CHC, human immunodeficiency virus-infection, treatment with immunosuppresents or cytostatica, alcohol dependency or active intravenous drug-use were excluded. We found 81 articles by searching the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases. Eight studies were eligible for inclusion. Their quality were assesed using an 18 point checklist for case series, developed using a modified Delphi technique. Information was extracted from the articles, and no raw data was requisitioned. The review protocol was registered at the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (reg. number: CRD42014008736). RESULTSThree studies reported on baseline IP-10 level in association with RVR. A signigficant association was found for HCV genotype 1 infection by two studies. Only two studies reported on HCV genotype 4 infected and genotype 2 and 3 infected patients, respectively. A trend was seen for an association between RVR and baseline IP-10 for genotype 4, while no association was found for genotype 2 and 3. Seven studies provided information regarding baseline IP-10 and SVR. Following the pattern regarding rapid virological response all five studies examining SVR in relation to baseline IP-10 levels for HCV, genotype 1 infected patients showed a significant association.
