Genetic Diversity Analysis of Rice Germplasm in Tripura State of Northeast India Using Drought and Blast Linked Markers

We genotyped 74 rice germplasms including Tripura＇s local landraces, improved varieties, cultivars and breeding lines and other rice varieties using molecular markers for genetic diversity, drought QTLs, and blast resistance genes. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 5 with an average of 2.9. The polymorphic information content value per locus ranged from 0.059（RM537） to 0.755（RM252） with an average of 0.475. Cluster analysis based on 30 simple sequence repeat markers revealed 5 clusters and also indicated the presence of variability within the rice accessions. The drought QTL q DTY2.1 was found in 56.0% of germplasms and q DTY1.1 was detected in only 6.8% of the germplasms. Out of seven rice blast resistance genes screened, only two rice varieties, RCPL-1-82 and Buh Vubuk（Lubuk）, were positive for four blast resistance genes while only Releng possessed two blast resistance genes. Among 74 rice germplasms, only three accessions, Releng, RCPL1-82 and Buh Vubuk（Lubuk）, possessed both drought-related QTLs and blast resistance genes. Overall, the 74 indigenous rice genotypes showed low level of genetic diversity, which is in contrast to high level of genetic diversity among rice varieties in northeast India, where highlights the good farming practice, conservation of germplasms and the limitation of molecular markers employed in this study. The presence of both drought related QTLs and blast resistance genes in some of the germplasms can be useful in future breeding programmes.

Comparison of Different Approaches of Finding the Positive Definite Metric in Pseudo-Hermitian Theories

To develop a unitary quantum theory with probabilistic description for pseudo-Hermitian systems one needs to consider the theories in a different Hilbert space endowed with a positive definite metric operator. There are different approaches to find such metric operators. We compare the different approaches of calculating positive definite metric operators in pseudo-Hermitian theories with the help of several explicit examples in non-relativistic as well as in relativistic situations. Exceptional points and spontaneous symmetry breaking are also discussed in these models.

Effect of disturbance on biomass,production and carbon dynamics in moist tropical forest of eastern Nepal

Background： Forest biomass is helpful to assess its productivity and carbon （C） sequestration capacity. Several disturbance activities in tropical forests have reduced the biomass and net primary production （NPP） leading to climate change. Therefore, an accurateestimation of forest biomass and C cycling in context of disturbances is required for implementing REDD （Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation） policy. Methods： Biomass and NPP of trees and shrubs were estimated by using allometric equations while herbaceous biomass was estimated by harvest method. Fine root biomass was determined from soil monolith. The C stock in vegetation was calculated by multiplying C concentration to dry weight. Results： Total stand biomass （***-1） in undisturbed forest stand （US） was 960.4 while in disturbed forest stand （DS） it was 449.1. The biomass （***-1） of trees, shrubs and herbs in US was 948.0, 4.4 and 1.4, respectively, while in DS they were 438.4, 6.1 and 1.2, respectively. Total NPP （***-1） was 26.58 （equivalent to 12.26 Mg ***-1） in US and 14.91 （6.88 Mg ***-1） in DS. Total C input into soil through litter plus root turnover was 6.78 and 3.35 ***-1 in US and DS, respectively. Conclusions： Several disturbance activities resulted in the significant loss in stand biomass （53 %）, NPP （44 %）, and C sequestration capacity of tropical forest vegetation is far greater than that returned to the soil n eastern Nepal. The net uptake of carbon by the by the turnover of fine root and litter. Therefore, both stands of present forest act as carbon accumulating systems. Moreover, disturbance reflects higher C emissions which can be reduced by better management.

Complex Classical Mechanics of a QES Potential

We study a combined parity(P) and time reversal(T) invariant non-Hermitian quasi-exactly solvable(QES) potential, which exhibits PT phase transition, in the complex plane classically to demonstrate different quantum effects. The particle with real energy makes closed orbits around one of the periodic wells of the complex potential depending on the initial condition. However interestingly the particle escapes to an open orbits even with real energy if it is placed beyond a certain distance from the center of the well. On the other hand when the particle energy is complex the trajectory is open and the particle tunnels back and forth between two wells which are separated by a classically forbidden path. The tunneling time is calculated for different pair of wells and is shown to vary inversely with the imaginary component of energy. Our study reveals that spontaneous PT symmetry breaking does not affect the qualitative features of the particle trajectories in the analogous complex classical model.

Optimal Linear Phase Finite Impulse Response Band Pass Filter Design Using Craziness Based Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm

An efficient method is proposed for the design of finite impulse response(FIR) filter with arbitrary pass band edge,stop band edge frequencies and transition *** proposed FIR band stop filter is designed using craziness based particle swarm optimization(CRPSO) *** the filter specifications to be realized,the CRPSO algorithm generates a set of optimal filter coefficients and tries to meet the ideal frequency response *** this paper,for the given problem,the realizations of the optimal FIR band pass filters of different orders have been *** simulation results have been compared with those obtained by the well accepted evolutionary algorithms,such as Parks and McClellan algorithm(PMA),genetic algorithm(GA) and classical particle swarm optimization(PSO).Several numerical design examples justify that the proposed optimal filter design approach using CRPSO outperforms PMA and PSO,not only in the accuracy of the designed filter but also in the convergence speed and solution quality.

Propagating disturbances along fan-like coronal loops in an active region

Propagating disturbances are often observed in active region fan-like coronal loops. They were thought to be due to slow mode magnetohydrodynamic waves based on some of the observed properties. However, recent studies involving spectroscopy indicate that they could be due to high speed quasi-periodic upflows which are difficult to distinguish from upward propagating slow waves. In this context, we have studied a fan loop structure in the active region AR 11465 using simultaneous spectroscopic and imaging observations from the Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer onboard Hinode and Atmospheric Imaging Assembly onboard Solar Dynamics Observatory. Analysis of the data shows significant oscillations at different locations. We explore the variations in different line parameters to determine whether the waves or flows could cause these oscillations to improve the current understanding of the nature of these disturbances.

Optimal array factor radiation pattern synthesis for linear antenna array using cat swarm optimization： validation by an electromagnetic simulator

In this paper, an optimal design of linear antenna arrays having microstrip patch antenna elements has been carried out Cat swarm optimization （CSO） has been applied for the optimization of the control parameters of radiation pattern of an antenna array. The optimal radiation patterns of isotropic antenna elements are obtained by optimizing the current excitation weight of each element and the inter-element spacing. The antenna arrays of 12, 16, and 20 elements are taken as examples. The arrays are designed by using MATLAB computation and are validated through Computer Simulation Technology-Microwave Studio （CST-MWS）. From the simulation results it is evident that CSO is able to yield the optimal design of linear antenna arrays of patch antenna elements.

Increased nighttime respiratory losses decrease the amount of photoassimilates available for plant growth and yield. We hypothesized that the increased respiratory carbon loss under high night temperatures(HNT) could be compensated for by increased photosynthesis during the day following HNT exposure. Two rice genotypes, Vandana(HNT-sensitive) and Nagina 22(HNT-tolerant), were exposed to HNT(4 ℃ above the control) from flowering to physiological maturity. They were assessed for alterations in the carbon balance of the source(flag leaf) and its subsequent impact on grain filling dynamics and the quality of spatially differentiated sinks(superior and inferior spikelets). Both genotypes exhibited significantly higher night respiration rates. However, only Nagina 22 compensated for the high respiration rates with an increased photosynthetic rate, resulting in a steady production of total dry matter under HNT. Nagina 22 also recorded a higher grain-filling rate, particularly at 5 and 10 d after flowering, with 1.5- and 4.0-fold increases in the translocation of ^(14)C sugars to the superior and inferior spikelets, respectively. The ratio of photosynthetic rate to respiratory rate on a leaf area basis was negatively correlated with spikelet sterility, resulting in a higher filled spikelet number and grain weight per plant, particularly for inferior grains in Nagina 22. Grain quality parameters such as head rice recovery, high-density grains, and gelatinization temperature were maintained in Nagina 22. An increase in the rheological properties of rice flour starch in Nagina 22 under HNT indicated the stability of starch and its ability to reorganize during the cooling process of product formation. Thus, our study showed that sink adjustments between superior and inferior spikelets favored the growth of inferior spikelets, which helped to offset the reduction in grain weight under HNT in the tolerant genotype Nagina 22.

Retinal circulation and its role in macular disorders in patients without systemic disease

AIM: To determine whether retinal circulatory changes play a role in the pathogenesis of macular disorders in patients who are otherwise healthy. METHODS: Patients with macular disorders that required angiographic imaging were included in this prospective case series. After a complete ocular exam,fluorescein angiography was performed using a standardized technique on the HRA-II(Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany) with special focus on the posterior pole. Only patients with good quality images were included in the analysis. Circulatory parameters recorded included the arm-choroid time,choroid-retinal artery, and finally the retinal artery-vein time. Zonal asymmetry(between the upper and lower zones divided by a line passing through the centre of the fovea) in transit times, if any was also noted. Appropriate statistical analysis was done. Circulation times were compared with age matched historical controls. Changes in retinal dye transit times relative to historical age matched controls, if any, were noted and compared between various ***: A total of 156 eyes of 156 patients(120 males)were included in the study. Mean age: 49.14 ±14.93 *** disorders studied were age related degeneration,polypoidal vasculopathy, central serous chorioretinopathy(CSCR) and parafoveal telangiectasia. Delayed circulation time was noted in CSCR patients ***: CSCR patients appear to have delayed arterial filling, retinal circulatory disturbances do not seem to contribute to the pathogenesis of other macular disorders.
