Alternative strategies of management of sorghum diseases were implemented using field experiments conducted in Embrapa Maize and Sorghum Research Center,brazil in 2001 until 2003 to evaluate the efficacy of lineage mixtures of Sorghum bicolor for the control of anthracnose(caused by Colletotrichum sublineolum).The calculated values for disease severity considered the area under the disease progress curve(AUDPC)observed for the nine susceptible and resistant elite strains of sorghum planted in 30 stands *** stand was drawn in mixtures of three genotypes each,in the same proportions per *** design was compared with the severity of the disease measured in AUDPC calculated for each of the same nine strains of sorghum in pure *** most of the cases,the disease severity on the susceptible cultivars was decreased;and in some cases,reached 85%of disease reduction compared with disease progress in pure stand of correspondent *** implication and effect of these sorghum mixtures on the populations of *** on each treatment were evaluated and revealed that there was an increase of frequency of complex races in most of these mixtures and a highest phenotypic diversity for virulence to pathogen populations from pure stands,than the characterized on populations collected from the mixtures,despite of the effectiveness on decrease of the anthracnose severity.

An interrogation sensor system combining the "figure-of-eight" fiber loop mirror using a single directional 3×3 fiber optic coupler was proposed. One fiber loop mirror was formed by inserting a length of high birefringent optical fiber at the input ports of the 3×3 coupler. Splicing the output ports of the 3×3 coupler between them created the other fiber loop mirror. The introduction of this second loop gave rise to two polarization states of light with the same frequency but different optical phase. The mechanical torsion sensing head was located at the second loop and was exhibited an average modulus torsion sensitivity of 7.9×10^-4 degree/db. A brief review on suspended-core fibers for sensing applications is presented. A historical overview over the previous ten years about this special designed microstructure optical fiber is described. This fiber presents attractive optical properties for chemical/biological or gas measurement, but it can be further explored for alternative sensing solutions, namely, in-fiber interferometers based on the suspended-core or suspended-multi-core fiber, for physical parameter monitoring.
