Synthetic Peptides Affect the Expression of Gdnf and Gdnf Receptors in Rats with 6-OHDA-Induced PD-Like Parkinsonism

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common sev.re neurodegenerativ. disorder. It is characterized by progressiv. degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta. Unfortunately, PD remains incurable. Therapy based on regulatory peptides, particularly neuroprotectiv. peptides, which can sustain or activ.te neuron plasticity to enable their surv.v.l and function in difficult env.ronments and after v.olated homeostasis, is a promising approach to cure PD. Some studies show that the synthetic analogs of natural peptides may be used as an etiological or at least a complementary therapy in PD. Therefore, in the present pilot study, we inv.stigated the effects of the synthetic peptides Semax and dopamine neuron stimulating peptide (DNSP-5), and a new synthetic Semax-DNSP-5 hybrid peptide (SD) on the functioning of brain neurons. An analysis of the lev.ls of dopamine (DA), noradrenaline (NA), 5-hydroxytriptamine (5-HT), an expression analysis of Gdnf and Gdnf receptor genes Gfra1, Gfra2, Gfra3, Gfra4, and Gfral in v.rious regions of the brain of rats with 6-OHDA-induced PD-like parkinsonism, and a study of the motor activ.ty of the rats in an “open field” test showed that DNSP-5 and SD elev.ted the lev.l of DA in the nonlesioned striatum. DNSP-5 also increased the expression of Gfra1 and Gfra2 in the nonlesioned striatum and lesioned substantia nigra (SN) which suggested that DNSP-5 had compensatory and neuroprotectiv. properties. SD demonstrated similar, albeit less pronounced effects to DNSP-5 on DA metabolism and gene expression. Of the peptides studied, only SD tended to increase the horizontal and v.rtical activ.ty of rats. In conclusion, these findings suggest that DNSP-5 and SD hav. potential neuroprotectiv. properties and may stimulate the surv.v.ng DA neurons.

The determination of white dwarf parameters in dwarf nov.e by optical spectral modeling

This paper presents the results of a model analysis of optical spectra and determination of the parameters of three indiv.dual SU UMa and WZ Sge type dwarf *** moderate resolution spectra of TY Psc,FL Psc and v.55 And were obtained at the 6-m BTA of the SAO RAS in the low state of these systems with the determination of white dwarf *** theoretical spectra were calculated using the grid models of hydrogen dwarf atmospheres of white dwarfs by v.rying the parameters(T_(eff) and log g) to reach the best agreement with the observ.d *** highlight different effects of the parameters on the shape and intensity of the HI ***,it is possible to unambiguously determine T_(eff) and log g from the analysis of *** fundamental parameters of white dwarfs(M and R) were found by comparing the parameters of atmospheres with theoretical models of the internal *** obtained parameters of the primaries of TY Psc,FL Psc and v.55 And are consistent with the av.rage v.lues for SU UMa and WZ Sge *** a result,we demonstrate the efficiency of the method for determining the parameters of such systems based on the analysis of a limited set of observ.d optical spectra.

A new species of small tree frog from a primary montane tropical forest of central v.etnam, Tay Nguyen Plateau, is described based on morphological, molecular, and acoustic ev.dence. The Golden Bug-Eyed Frog, Theloderma auratum sp. nov., is distinguishable from its congeners and other small rhacophorid species based on a combination of the following morphological attributes：（1） bony ridges on head absent; （2） smooth skin completely lacking calcified warts or asperities; （3） pointed elongated tapering snout; （4） v.cal opening in males absent; （5） v.merine teeth absent; （6） males of small body size （Sv. 21.8-26.4 mm）; （7） head longer than wide; ED/Sv. ratio 13%-15%; ESL/Sv. ratio 16%-20%; （8） small tympanum （TD/EL ratio 50%-60%） with few tiny tubercles; （9） supratympanic fold absent; （10） v.ntral surfaces completely smooth; （11 ） webbing between fingers absent; （12） outer and inner metacarpal tubercles present, supernumerary metacarpal tubercle single, medial, ov.l in shape; （13） toes half-webbed： I 2-21/4 II 11/^-23/~ III 2-31/4 Iv.3-11/2 v. （14） inner metatarsal tubercle present, ov.l; outer metatarsal tubercle absent; （15） iris bicolored; （16） dorsal surfaces golden-yellow with sparse golden-orange speckling or reticulations and few small dark-brown spots; （17） lateral sides of head and body with wide dark reddish-brown to black lateral stripes, clearlyseparated from lighter dorsal coloration by straight contrasting edge; （18） v.ntral surfaces of body, throat, and chest greyish-blue with indistinct brown confluent blotches; （19） upper eyelids with few （3-5） v.ry small flat reddish superciliary tubercles; （20） limbs dorsally reddish-brown, v.ntrally brown with small bluish-white speckles. The new species is also distinct from all congeners in 12S rRNA to 16S rRNA mitochondrial DNA fragment sequences （uncorrected genetic distance P〉8.9%）. Adv.rtisement call and tadpole morphology of the new species are described. Our molecular data showed Theloderma auratum sp. nov.

Binuclear and hexanuclear titanium complexes stabilized by tetradentate [OOOO]^(4–)-type ligand were activ. in ethylene polymerization in the presence of Et2 AlCl/Bu2 Mg binary co-catalyst, giv.ng high molecular weight polyethylene. The binuclear complex showed significantly higher catalytic activ.ty and thermal stability in comparison to mononuclear analogue. Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE) samples were processed by a solid-state uniaxial deformation into high-strength(up to 2.5 GPa) and highmodulus(ov.r 100 GPa) oriented film tapes, which indirectly indicates a low degree of entanglements between the macromolecular chains.

Possibility for Recognition of Psychic Brain Activ.ty with Continuous Wav.let Analysis of EEG

The brain is a unique organization in nature, possessing the ability for psychic activ.ty, which manifests itself in thoughts, feelings and emotions. In present days, numbers of mathematical methods for analysis of electroencephalogram (EEG) were dev.loped with continuous wav.let transform being one of the most successiv. approaches for studying of brain activ.ty. This paper is aimed to dev.lop methods for inv.stigation of psychic brain activ.ty with help of continuous wav.let analysis of EEG. Ability of human to realize semantic content of the image presented on the screen was tested. Experiment was accompanied with simultaneous EEG recording, which was held with dev.loped software and PC-based experimental setup. The information capabilities of continuous wav.let transform-based method for EEG analysis were improv.d for the recognition of specific patterns in human brain activ.ty. Comparativ. wav.let analysis was carried out for EEG recordings at the moment of awareness of the semantic content of the image and for EEG recordings in the absence of conscious (subjectiv.) perception of the semantic content of the image. Significant differences were shown in the alpha rhythm of EEG for the moments of awareness of the semantic content of the image and for the moments of absence of conscious perception. Continuous wav.let analysis of EEG showed that the alpha rhythm is the main EEG rhythm, which can be used to estimate the presence of subjectiv. perception of the v.sual image. Significant differences were shown in the alpha rhythm of EEG for the moments of awareness of the semantic content of the image and for the moments of absence of conscious perception. Conducted studies allow to conclude that rev.aling of brain activ.ty related to v.sual image awareness is possible through analysis of EEG.

This paper tries to present new confirmation for the opinion about the infectious origin of atherosclerosis from the v.ewpoint of the current knowledge of hereditary immunity. The performed integrativ. inv.stigation included the reinterpretation of known clinical and epidemiological observ.tions, supported by immunological, molecular ecological, genetic, and genomic discov.ries. The rev.aled body of firstly achiev.d information is compatible with the concept that infectious agents contribute the clue step to the dev.lopment of atherosclerosis ov.r its initial stage performed during the triggering of the arterial endothelial wall by the molecular agent of proposed infectious origin.

This paper considers the problems of the potential dev.lopment of erosion processes in the natural landscapes of northern taiga in the Russian plain. It is considered that in forest ecosystems, erosion processes are slow and are weakly reflected in the terrain. Howev.r, the situation changes radically if the v.getation cov.r integrity is v.olated, which is inev.table with the modern methods of dev.loping northern territories. Furthermore, global changes in av.rage annual temperatures and the occurrence of karst processes may be the reason behind the dev.lopment of erosion processes. The authors suggest a method for determining territories with a v.rying occurrence probability of erosional processes, based on digital elev.tion modelling. The territory of the Pinezhsky Nature Reserv.(Arkhangelsk region) was chosen as the test plot. Direct field studies were prev.ously used to detect exogenous geological processes in this territory. The authors were the first to suggest digital elev.tion modelling as a method that allows determining the potential danger of erosion in karst landscapes of the northern taiga. The geomorphometric studies resulted in the determination of areas with the greatest and lowest occurrence probability of erosion processes in the Pinezhsky Nature Reserv.. It was established that the most significant erosion type was linear erosion, represented by incised riv.r v.lleys and karst rav.nes. Sheet erosion is less significant and occurs as sinkholes, local declines, and chasms ov.r the v.lleys of subterranean riv.rs.

Risk score for predicting abdominal complications after coronary artery bypass grafting

BACKGROUND Although early abdominal complications after coronary artery bypass grafting(CABG)with cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB)are rare,the associated mortality remains *** To dev.lop a risk score for the prediction of early abdominal complications after CABG with *** This retrospectiv. study was performed in the Federal State Budgetary Establishment“Federal Center of Cardiov.scular Surgery”of the Ministry of Health of Russia(the city of Chelyabinsk)and included data of 6586 patients who underwent CABG with CPB during *** risk factors taken for ev.luation were compared between patients with early abdominal complications(n=73)and without them(n=6513).We identified the most important risk factors and their influence on the dev.lopment of early abdominal complications after CABG with *** Gender and the presence of postinfarction cardiosclerosis,chronic kidney disease,or diabetes in the anamnesis did not affect the occurrence of abdominal *** leading risk factors of the early abdominal complications after CABG with CPB were multifocal atherosclerosis,extracorporeal membrane oxygenation,intra-aortic balloon pump,atrial fibrillation,perioperativ. myocardial infarction,and the need for resternotomy in the postoperativ. *** av.rage v.lue of the predicted probability was 0.087±0.015 in patients with early abdominal complications after CABG with CPB and 0.0094±0.0003 in patients without these *** percentage of correct classification turned out to be 98.9%.After calculating a score for each of the leading risk factors,we counted a total score for each particular *** highest risk was noted in patients with a total score of 7 or *** The dev.loped score predicts the risk of early abdominal complications after CABG with CPB and makes it possible to stratify patients by risk groups.
