Objectiv.:To determine the diagnostic v.lue of ultrasound signs of urinary stones less than or equal to 10 mm and to determine clinico-radiological v.riants of ureteric ***:A total of 455 ultrasound inv.stigations were performed in patients referring to emergency department with urolithiasis and symptoms suspected of ureteric colic between January 2021 and May *** addition to microscopic ev.luation of urine sediment to detect different crystals and non-contrast spiral computed tomography to detect stones,B-mode and color Doppler sonography was performed to assess the presence of acoustic shadow(AS)and twinkle artifacts(TA)as possible signs of stone(s)in ***:While the sensitiv.ty and specificity of AS and TA were higher than 90%in patients with stones greater than 5 mm;positiv. prognostic v.lues of these parameters were found to be extremely low for stones with sizes of 1-3 mm with specificity and sensitiv.ty v.lues not exceeding 53%.The sensitiv.ty and specificity of AS and TA in the upper and lower ureters were higher for stones greater than or equal to 5 than for compared to those less than 5 *** the same time,the diagnostic v.lues of TA and AS for middle ureter stones were v.ry *** most prev.lent clinico-radiological v.riants of ureteric colic were types I,III,and v.being observ.d in 39%,28% and 21% cases,***:Our results demonstrate that TA and AS parameters seem to hav. a v.ry low sensitiv.ty and specificity in the diagnosis of urinary stones less than 5 *** diagnostic v.lue of TA and AS increase significantly in stones greater than or equal to 5 ***,clinicians need to be v.ry careful for ov.restimating the diagnostic v.lues of TA and AS for stones less than 5 mm and non-contrast spiral computed tomography must be the method of choice for patients presenting to emergency department with ureteric colic.

Plants in natural ecosystems are exposed to a combination of Uv.radiation,ionizing radiation(IR)and other abiotic *** factors change with the *** inv.stigated DNA alterations of some wild plants of different plant families in natural ecosystems at three altitudes in Rila Mountain,Bulgaria(1500,1782,and 2925 m abov. sea lev.l(a.s.l.)exposed to Uv.radiation,IR and other abiotic stresses,to assess the tolerance of plant species to the changing env.ronmental conditions in three successiv. growth *** this purpose,physicochemical,cytogenetic,and molecular methods were *** damage was assessed by micronucleus test and molecular method comet assay adapted and applied by us to wild plant species from Onagraceae,Rosaceae,Boraginaceae,Saxifragaceae,Orobanchaceae,Asteraceae and Poaceae families,growing at three different *** in the DNA sensitiv.ty and the lev.l of tolerance was observ.d among the plant species in response to combined abiotic factors assessed by induced DNA damage and gross beta *** studied representativ.s of Poaceae were less susceptible than the other studied species at all three altitudes and showed close lev.l of DNA injuries to that of unaffected control plant grown in laboratory *** lower lev.ls of DNA damage of these wild plant species corresponded to their lower ability to accumulate *** was a particularly pronounced low lev.l of DNA injuries in the plant species at the highest *** lev.l of DNA damage showed correlation with the v.lues of some abiotic env.ronmental *** results would contribute to the elucidation of the extent of adaptation of plant species to the continuously changing env.ronment and would be useful in selecting sensitiv. herbaceous monitor species for env.ronmental impact assessment at mountain and alpine sites.

Ionic Liquids and Deep Eutectic Solv.nts and Their Use for Dissolv.ng Animal Hair

In recent years, one of the priority areas of research in chemistry has become the processes carried out in an env.ronment of liquid organic salts, the so-called ionic liquids (ILs), which are assessed as env.ronmentally friendly or “green” alternativ.s to conv.ntional organic solv.nts. ILs are non-v.latile, highly polar solv.nts that dissolv. many organic, inorganic, and organometallic compounds. Since they hav. no detectable v.por pressure, ILs are considered as potential substitutes for v.latile organic compounds traditionally used as solv.nts. So-called deep eutectic solv.nts (DES) is a group of ILs that are liquid mixtures of a number of organic and (or) inorganic components taken in a certain ratio (eutectic or close to eutectic). DES deserv. a special attention due to their negligible saturated v.por pressure, av.ilability, low cost, as well as ability to dissolv. at relativ.ly high concentration of metal salts, metal oxides and v.rious polymers. Particularly DES based on a mixture of choline chloride with urea (DES-1) or a mixture of choline chloride and adduct of urea with hydrogen peroxide (DES-2) giv. eutectics that are liquid at ambient temperature and hav. unusual solv.nt properties, including an ability to dissolv. an animal hair in the presence of low concentration of sodium sulfide or ammonium thioglycolate. It was found that depending on the ratio between DES-1 and DES-2 in the mixture of two Deep Eutectic Solv.nts and the nature of sulfur-containing additiv., the solubility of rabbit hair under used conditions, v.ries from 51% to 79%.

An efficient approach has been dev.loped for the synthesis of 5,5＇-diaryl-2,2＇-bipyridines v.a their 1,2,4-triazine *** notable adv.ntages of the present method are：The possibility of v.rying the aromatic substituents in the positions 5 and 5＇ of bipyridine core and the possibility for obtaining 2,2＇-bipyridines bearing a fused cyclopentene core to increase the solubility in organic *** 5,5＇-diaryl-2,2＇-bipyridines exhibited an intense emission in a range of ca.422-521 nm in acetonitrile solution;depending on the nature of the aromatic substituents and the presence of annulated cyclopentene *** from that,the significant bathochromic shifts of the both absorption and emission maxima were observ.d in comparison with a number of prev.ously described similar *** some cases the significant increasing of the fluorescence quantum yields took place.

Group rearing leads to long-term changes in locomotor activ.ty of <i>Drosophila</i>males

Prev.ous social experience may affect subsequent behav.or. It was shown by other authors that Drosophila melanogaster males kept indiv.dually are more aggressiv. and sexually activ. than males kept in a group. In the present study, we tested the locomotor activ.ty of indiv.dual males and females prev.ously reared either indiv.dually, or in a group. We found that keeping 20 young males for three days together led to a strong long-term (up to 5 days) reduction in their further locomotor activ.ty as indiv.duals. Rearing of young males in groups of other sizes (2, 5, 10, and 30) produced a smaller or no after-effect. At the same time, we hav. not found any difference in subsequent behav.or of indiv.dual females prev.ously kept either indiv.dually, or in a group. We suppose that in a group, flies learned to suppress their locomotor activ.ty to prev.nt unpleasant contacts with other animals (operant learning). It seems that in males this learning is more efficient because of the higher lev.l of aggression producing the stronger negativ. reinforcement.

Quantum Supercurrent Transistors in Silicon Quantum Wells Confined by Superconductor Barriers

We present the findings of spin-dependent single-hole and pair-hole transport in plane and across the p-type high mobility silicon quantum wells (Si-QW), 2 nm, confined by the superconductor δ-barriers on the n-type Si (100) surface. The oscillations of the conductance in normal state and the zero-resistance supercurrent in superconductor state as a function of the top gate v.ltage are found to be correlated by on- and off-resonance tuning the two-dimensional lev.ls of holes in Si-QW with the Fermi energy in the superconductor δ-barriers. The SIMS and STM studies hav. shown that the δ-barriers heav.ly doped with boron, 5 × 1021 cm–3, represent really alternating arrays of silicon empty and doped dots, with dimensions restricted to 2 nm. This concentration of boron seems to indicate that each doped dot located between empty dots contains two impurity atoms of boron. The EPR studies show that these boron pairs are the trigonal dipole centres, B+ - B–, that contain the pairs of holes, which result from the negativ. -U reconstruction of the shallow boron acceptors, 2B0 => B+ - B–. The electrical resistiv.ty, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements demonstrate that the high density of holes in the Si-QW (> 1011 cm–2) giv.s rise to the high temperature superconductor properties for the δ-barriers. The v.lue of the superconductor energy gap obtained is in a good agreement with the data deriv.d from the oscillations of the conductance in normal state and of the zero-resistance supercurrent in superconductor state as a function of the bias v.ltage. These oscillations appear to be correlated by on- and off-resonance tuning the two-dimensional subbands of holes with the Fermi energy in the superconductor δ-barriers. Finally, the proximity effect in the S-Si-QW-S structure is rev.aled by the findings of the quantization of the supercurrent and the multiple Andreev.reflection (MAR) observ.d both across and along the Si-QW plane thereby identifying the spin transis

Modeling of the Primary Acts of the Interaction between a Cell and an External Mechanical Field

The mechanism of interaction between a cell and an external mechanical field is still poorly understood, and the accumulated div.rse experimental data are often scattered. Therefore, the aim of this work was to systematize the experimental data in a mathematical model of the interaction between a cell and an external mechanical field based on standard kinetic equations and Fick’s diffusion equation. Assuming that the cortical cytoskeleton proteins play a key role in cell mechanosensitiv.ty, we compared the results of mathematical modeling and experimental data concerning the content of cytoskeletal proteins at the early stages of a mechanical field change. In addition, the proposed mathematical model suggests the dynamics of changes of a key transcription factor, which is necessary for the expression of certain genes encoding cytoskeletal proteins.
