Vertically transmitted hepatitis B virus(HBV)usually causes chronic *** combined active–passive immunoprophylaxis in neonates of hepatitis B surface antigen-positive(HBsAg1)mothers at birth prevents vertical transmission,it is not yet clear whether neonates encounter the virus or its products in the absence of hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg).This study was undertaken to investigate HBV antigen-specific T-cell responses in vaccinated neonates of HBsAg1/HBeAg2 *** was collected from 46 HBsAg1 mothers and their neonates(subjects)as well as 24 age-matched *** neonates of HBsAg1 mothers received appropriate immunoprophylaxis,and HBsAg and hepatitis B surface antibody(anti-HBs)antibody titers were determined after completion of the vaccination *** blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs)from infants at birth,1 and 6 months of age were stimulated with recombinant HBsAg,hepatitis B core antigen(HBcAg)and mitogen,and interferon(IFN)-c concentrations were determined by ***-induced production of IL-2,IL-5,IL-6 and IL-10 was assessed using a cytometric bead array kit on cells from 6-month-old neonates *** neonates were HBsAg2 and responded to *** IFN-c production following HBcAg stimulation was seen in 30.4%of neonates born to HBsAg1/HBeAg2 *** demonstrated significantly higher IL-2 production post-HBsAg stimulation,whereas IL-5,IL-6 and IL-10 cytokine responses were not significantly *** one-third of uninfected neonates developed viral antigen-induced IFN-c production,suggesting that they had been exposed to virions or viral *** encounter,however,did not impair their T-cell responses to vaccination.

Colorectal cancer(CRC) constitutes the third most frequently reported malignancy in the male population and the second most common in women in the last two decades. Colon carcinogenesis is a complex, multifactorial event, resulting from genetic and epigenetic aberrations, the impact of environmental factors, as well as the disturbance of the gut microbial ecosystem. The relationship between the intestinal microbiome and carcinogenesis was relatively undervalued in the last decade. However, its remarkable effect on metabolic and immune functions on the host has been in the spotlight as of recent years. There is a strong relationship between gut microbiome dysbiosis, bowel pathogenicity and responsiveness to anti-cancer treatment;including immunotherapy. Modifications of bacteriome consistency are closely associated with the immunologic response to immunotherapeutic agents. This condition that implies the necessity of gut microbiome manipulation. Thus, creatingan optimal response for CRC patients to immunotherapeutic agents. In this paper, we will review the current literature observing how gut microbiota influence the response of immunotherapy on CRC patients.

BACKGROUND Patients with stage II-III colorectal cancer (CRC) treated with adjuvant chemotherapy, gain a 25% survival benefit. In the context of personalized medicine, there is a need to identify patients with CRC who may benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy. Molecular profiling could guide treatment decisions in these patients. Thymidylate synthase (TYMS) gene polymorphisms, KRAS and BRAF could be included in the molecular profile under consideration. AIM To investigate the association of TYMS gene polymorphisms, KRAS and BRAF mutations with survival of CRC patients treated with *** A retrospective study studied formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues (FFPEs) of consecutive patients treated with adjuvant chemotherapy during January/2005-January/2007. FFPEs were analysed with PCR for the detection of TYMS polymorphisms, mutated KRAS (mKRAS) and BRAF (mBRAF). Patients were classified into three groups (high, medium and low risk) according to 5’UTR TYMS polymorphisms Similarly, based on 3’UTR polymorphism ins/loss of heterozygosity (LOH) patients were allocated into two groups (high and low risk of relapse, respectively). Cox regression models examined the associated 5- year survival outcomes. RESULTS One hundred and thirty patients with early stage CRC (stage I-II: 55 patients;stage III 75 patients;colon: 70 patients;rectal: 60 patients) were treated with surgery and chemotherapy. The 5-year disease free survival and overall survival rate was 61.6% and 73.9% respectively. 5’UTR polymorphisms of intermediate TYMS polymorphisms (2RG/3RG, 2RG/LOH, 3RC/LOH) were associated with lower risk for relapse [hazard ratio (HR) 0.320, P = 0.02 and HR 0.343, P = 0.013 respectively] and death (HR 0.368, P = 0.031 and HR 0.394, P = 0.029 respectively). Abdominal aortic aneurysm is a common pathology in the aging population of the developed world which carries a significant mortality in excess of 80% in case of rupture. Aneurysmal disease probably represents the only surgical condition in which size is such a critical determinant of the need for intervention and therefore the ability to accurately and reproducibly record aneurysm size and growth over time is of outmost importance. In the same time that imaging techniques may be limited by intra- and inter-observer variability and there may be inconsistencies due to different modalities [ultrasound, computed tomography(CT)], rapid technologic advancement have taken aortic imaging to the next level. Digital imaging, multidetector scanners, thin slice CT and most- importantly the ability to perform 3-dimensional reconstruction and image post-processing have currently become widely available rendering most of the imaging modalities used in the past out of date. The aim of the current article is to report on various imaging methods and current state of the art techniques used to record aneurysm size and growth. Moreover we aim to emphasize on the future research directions and report on techniques which probably will be widely used and incorporated in clinical practice in the near future.
