BACKGROUND Ewing sarcoma(ES)is a malignant neoplasm of neuroectodermal origin and is commonly observed in children and young *** musculoskeletal system is the main body system impacted and ES is rarely seen in the visceral organs particularly the adrenal *** To present a comprehensive review of primary adrenal ES,with emphasis on diagnosis,therapy and oncological *** A systematic review of the literature was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses ***/MEDLINE,EMBASE and Google Scholar bibliographic databases were searched to identify articles from 1989 to 2022 and included patients with ES/primitive neuroectodermal tumor(PNET)of the adrenal ***,Google Scholar and EMBASE medical databases were searched,combining the terms“adrenal”,“ES”and“PNET”.Demographic,clinical,pathological and oncological data of patients were analyzed by SPSS version *** A total of 52 studies were included for review(47 case reports and 5 case series)with 66 patients reported to have primary adrenal *** age at diagnosis was 26.4±15.4 years(37.9%males,57.6%females,sex not reported in 3 cases).The most frequent complaint was abdominal/flank pain or discomfort(46.4%)followed by a palpable mass(25.0%),and the average duration of symptoms was 2.6±3.1 *** imaging modality of choice was computed tomography scan(81.5%),followed by magnetic resonance imaging(20.4%).Preoperative staging revealed that 17 tumors(27.9%)were metastatic and 14 patients had inferior vena cava or renal vein neoplastic thrombus at initial *** adrenalectomy was performed in the majority of cases(80.0%),of which 27.9%required more extensive *** invasive surgery was attempted in 8.2%of *** surgical resection was achieved in 89.4%of the *** therapy was administered to 32 patients,in the form of chemotherapy(62.5%),radiotherapy(3.1%)or combination(34.4%).Median overall s

Practical approaches to effective management of intestinal radiation injury:Benefit of resectional surgery

AIM:To study the outcome of patients undergoing surgical resection of the bowel for sustained radiation-induced damage intractable to conservative ***:During a 7-year period we operated on 17 cases (5 male,12 female) admitted to our surgical department with intestinal radiation injury (IRI).They were originally treated for a pelvic malignancy by surgical resection followed by postoperative *** follow-up,they developed radiation enteritis requiring surgical treatment due to failure of conservative ***:IRI was located in the terminal ileum in 12 patients,in the rectum in 2 patients,in the descending colon in 2 patients,and in the cecum in one *** patients had resection of the affected region(s).There were no postoperative deaths,while 3 cases presented with postoperative complications (17.7%).All patients remained free of symptoms without evidence of recurrence of IRI for a median follow-up period of 42 mo (range,6-96 mo).CONCLUSION:We report a favorable outcome without IRI recurrence of 17 patients treated by resection of the diseased bowel segment.

Volumetric assessment of hepatic grafts using a light detection and ranging system for 3D scanning:Preliminary data

BACKGROUND Liver transplantation has evolved into a safe life-saving operation and remains the golden standard in the treatment of end stage liver *** main limiting factor in the application of liver transplantation is graft *** strategies have been developed in order to alleviate graft shortage,such as living donor partial liver transplantation and split liver transplantation for adult and pediatric *** these strategies,liver volume assessment is of paramount importance,as size mismatch can have severe consequences in the success of liver *** To evaluate the safety,feasibility,and accuracy of light detection and ranging(LIDAR)3D photography in the prediction of whole liver graft volume and *** Seven liver grafts procured for orthotopic liver transplantation from brain deceased donors were prospectively measured with an LIDAR handheld camera and their mass was calculated and compared to their actual *** The mean error of all measurements was 17.03 g(range 3.56-59.33 g).Statistical analysis of the data yielded a Pearson correlation coefficient index of 0.9968,indicating a strong correlation between the values and a Student’s t-test P value of *** accuracy of the measurements was calculated at 97.88%.CONCLUSION Our preliminary data indicate that LIDAR scanning of liver grafts is a safe,cost-effective,and feasible method of ex vivo determination of whole liver volume and *** data are needed to determine the precision and accuracy of this method.

Contribution of Global Warming and Atmospheric Circulation to the Hottest Spring in Eastern China in 2018

The spring of 2018 was the hottest on record since 1951 over eastern China based on station observations,being 2.5°C higher than the 1961−90 mean and with more than 900 stations reaching the record spring mean *** event exerted serious impacts in the region on agriculture,plant phenology,electricity transmission systems,and human *** this paper,the contributions of human-induced climate change and anomalous anticyclonic circulation to this event are investigated using the newly homogenized observations and updated Met Office Hadley Centre system for attribution of extreme events,as well as CanESM2(Second Generation Canadian Earth System Model)*** indicate that both anthropogenic influences and anomalous anticyclonic circulation played significant roles in increasing the probability of the 2018 hottest *** estimates of the probability ratio show that anthropogenic forcing may have increased the chance of this event by ten-fold,while the anomalous circulation increased it by approximately *** persistent anomalous anticyclonic circulation located on the north side of China blocked the air with lower temperature from high latitudes into eastern *** anthropogenic forcing or without the anomalous circulation in northern China,the occurrence probability of the extreme warm spring is significantly reduced.

Corrosion Resistance and Physical-Mechanical Properties of Reinforced Mortars with and without Carbon Nanotubes

Following the evolution of currently enforced Performance Based Design standards of reinforced concrete (RC) structures for durability, the designer, rather than complying with given prescriptive limits, may instead specify a cementitious mix design that is proven to exhibit a code prescribed resistance level (class) to a given exposure environment. Such compliance will lead to the protection of the steel reinforcement from corrosion and the cementitious mortar from degradation, during the design lifespan of the structure, under aggressive environmental exposure conditions such as, marine or deicing salts and carbonation. In this context, the enhancement of the physical and durability properties of common cement-based mortars under chloride exposure are experimentally investigated herein. In particular, the experimental program reported herein aims to evaluate the influence of incorporating multi-walled carbon nanotubes on the physical and mechanical properties of reinforced mortars against chloride ions. Furthermore, the anticorrosion protection of cementitious composites prepared with nanomaterials at 0.2% w/w is further investigated, by comparing all test results against reference specimens prepared without any additive. Electrochemical (Half-cell potential, corrosion current) and mass loss of reinforcement steel measurements were performed, while the porosity, capillary absorption and flexural strength were measured to evaluate the mechanical and durability characteristics of the mortars, following a period of exposure of eleven months;SEM images coupled with EDX analysis were further recorded and used for microstructure observation. The test results indicate that the inclusion of the nanomaterials in the mix improved the durability of the mortar specimens, while the nano-modified composites exhibited higher chloride penetration resistance and flexural strength than the corresponding values of the reference mortars. Bacterial Infections in Cirrhotic Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital

Metastatic disease from cutaneous melanoma can af-fect all organs of the body, and varies in its biological behavior and clinical presentation. We present the case of a 58-year-old man who arrived at our clinic with acute abdominal pain, which, after investigation, was diagnosed as acute cholecystitis. The patient under-went laparotomy and cholecystectomy. Two years ago, he underwent surgical removal of a primary cutaneous melanoma on his right upper back. Pathological exami-nation revealed the presence of malignant melanoma with a metastatic lesion of the gallbladder.
