BACKGROUND Failure in restoring individual anatomy could be a reason for persistent functional limitations post total hip arthroplasty.Femoroacetabular offset(FAO)plays an important role in anatomic restoration,as loss of offset≥5 mm is associated with altered gait and decreased functional outcome.Preoperative assessment by use of digital templating has shown to be a reliable method for sizing the components in total hip arthroplasty,and can show if anatomic restoration is achieved.In recent years,short stems are growing in popularity as it could allow better restoration due to more variety in placement.AIM To assess whether restoration of the FAO differs between a short or a conventional stem by use of digital templating.Additionally,association of the preoperative offset and caput-colllum-diaphyseal angle(CCD-angle)within restoration of both stems was investigated,and the reliability of measurements was assessed.METHODS A total of 100 standardized hip radiographs were used for digital templating.Restoration of FAO was classified into“restored”or“not restored”,when aline value presented,respectively.Differences between the two stems concerning proportions of correct restoration of the FAO were analyzed by use of McNemar tests.To assess association between CCDangle and preoperative FAO with absolute FAO restoration,multi-level analysis was performed by use of a linear mixed model to account for paired measurements.Through determination of the optimal point under the curve in operating curve-analysis,bootstrapping of thousand sets was performed to determine the optimal cutoff point of the preoperative FAO for restoration within the limits of 5 mm.Three observers participated for inter-observer reliability,with two observers measuring the radiographs twice for intra-observer reliability.RESUlTS The mean preoperative FAO was 79.7 mm(range 62.5-113 mm),with a mean CCD-angle of 128.6°(range 114.5°-145°).The conventional stem could only restore the FAO in 72 of the cases,whereas the sh

BACKGROUND Current literature shows no clear answer on the question how to manage the capsule after hip arthroscopy.Regarding patient reported outcome measures there seems to be no difference between capsular repair or unrepaired capsulotomy.AIM To evaluate and compare the integrity of the hip capsule measured on a magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)scan after capsular repair or unrepaired capsulotomy.METHODS A case series study was performed;a random sample of patients included in a trial comparing capsular repair vs unrepaired capsulotomy had a postoperative MRI scan.The presence of a capsular defect and gap size were independently evaluated on MRI.RESUlTS A total of 28 patients(29 hips)were included.Patient demographics were comparable between treatment groups.There were 2 capsular defects in the capsular repair group and 7 capsular defects in the unrepaired capsulotomy group(P=0.13).In the group of patients with a defect,median gap sizes at the acetabular side were 5.9 mm(range:2.7-9.0)in the repaired and 8.0 mm(range:4.5-18.0)in the unrepaired group(P=0.462).At the muscular side gap sizes were 6.6 mm(range:4.1-9.0)in the repaired group and 11.5 mm(range:3.0-18.0)in the unrepaired group(P=0.857).The calculated Odds ratio(OR)for having a capsular defect with an increasing lateral center-edge(CE)angle was 1.12(P=0.06).The OR for having a capsular defect is lower in the group of patients that underwent a labral repair with an OR of 0.1(P=0.05).CONClUSION There is no significant difference in capsular defects between capsular repair or unrepaired capsulotomy.Regarding clinical characteristics our case series shows that a larger CE angle increases the likelihood of a capsular defect and the presence of a labral repair decreases the likelihood of a capsular defect.

We study in fairly general measure spaces （X,μ） the （non-linear） potential theory of l^p sub-Markovian semigroups which are given by kernels having a density with respect to the underlying measure. In terms of mapping properties of the operators we provide sufficient conditions for the existence （and regularity） of such densities. We give various （dual） representations for several associated capacities and, in the corresponding abstract Bessel potential spaces, we study the role of the truncation property. Examples are discussed in the case of R^n where abstract Bessel potential spaces can be identified with concrete function spaces.

With the current revolution in Shipping 4.0, a tremendous amount of data is accumulated during vessel operations. Dataquality (DQ) is becoming more and more important for the further digitalization and effective decision-making in shippingindustry. In this study, a practical DQ assessment method for raw data in vessel operations is proposed. In this method,specific data categories and data dimensions are developed based on engineering practice and existing literature. Concretevalidation rules are then formed, which can be used to properly divide raw datasets. Afterwards, a scoring method is usedfor the assessment of the data quality. Three levels, namely good, warning and alarm, are adopted to reflect the final dataquality. The root causes of bad data quality could be revealed once the internal dependency among rules has been built,which will facilitate the further improvement of DQ in practice. A case study based on the datasets from a Danish shippingcompany is conducted, where the DQ variation is monitored, assessed and compared. The results indicate that theproposed method is effective to help shipping industry improve the quality of raw data in practice. This innovationresearch can facilitate shipping industry to set a solid foundation at the early stage of their digitalization journeys.

The potential for improving the penetration depth of optical coherence tomography systems by using light sources with longer wavelengths has been known since the inception of the technique in the early 1990s.Nevertheless,the development of mid-infrared optical coherence tomography has long been challenged by the maturity and fidelity of optical components in this spectral region,resulting in slow acquisition,low sensitivity,and poor axial resolution.In this work,a mid-infrared spectral-domain optical coherence tomography system operating at a central wavelength of 4μm and an axial resolution of 8.6μm is demonstrated.The system produces two-dimensional cross-sectional images in real time enabled by a high-brightness 0.9-to 4.7-μm mid-infrared supercontinuum source with a pulse repetition rate of 1 MHz for illumination and broadband upconversion of more than 1-μm bandwidth from 3.58–4.63μm to 820–865 nm,where a standard 800-nm spectrometer can be used for fast detection.The images produced by the mid-infrared system are compared with those delivered by a state-of-the-art ultra-high-resolution near-infrared optical coherence tomography system operating at 1.3μm,and the potential applications and samples suited for this technology are discussed.In doing so,the first practical mid-infrared optical coherence tomography system is demonstrated,with immediate applications in real-time non-destructive testing for the inspection of defects and thickness measurements in samples that exhibit strong scattering at shorter wavelengths.

Insect CAPA neuropeptidesare considered to affect water and ion balance by mediating the physiological metabolism activities of the Malpighian tubules.In previous studies,the CAPA-PK analogue 1895(2Abf-Suc-FGPRlamide)was reported to decrease aphid fitness when administered through microinjection or via topical application.However,a further statistically significant decrease in the fitness of aphids and an increased mortality could not be established with pairwise combinations of 1895 with other CAPA analogue.In this study,we assessed the topical application of new combinations of 1895 with five CAPA-PVK analogues on the fitness of aphids.We found that 1895 and CAPA-PVK analogue 2315(ASG-[β3l]-VAFPRVamide)was statistically the most effective combination to control the peach potato aphid Myzus persicae nymphs via topical application,leading to 72%mortality.Additionally,the combination(1895+2315)was evaluated against a selection of beneficial insects,that is,a pollinator(Bombus terrestris)and three natural enemies(Chrysoperla carnea,Nasonia vitripennis,and Adalia bipunctata).We found no significant influence on food intake,weight increase,and survival for the pollinator and the three representative natural enemies.These results could facilitate to further establish and generate CAPA analogues as alternatives to broad spectrum and less friendly insecticides.

We study for a class of symmetric lévy processes with state space R n the transition density pt(x) in terms of two one-parameter families of metrics, (dt)t>0 and (δt)t>0. The first family of metrics describes the diagonal term pt(0); it is induced by the characteristic exponent ψ of the lévy process by dt(x, y) = ^(1/2)tψ(x-y). The second and new family of metrics δt relates to ^(1/2)tψ through the formulawhere F denotes the Fourier transform. Thus we obtain the following "Gaussian" representation of the transition density: pt(x) = pt(0)e- δ2t (x,0) where pt(0) corresponds to a volume term related to tψ and where an "exponential" decay is governed by δ2t . This gives a complete and new geometric, intrinsic interpretation of pt(x).

Effect of a 26-month floorball training on male elderly's cardiovascular fitness, glucose control, body composition, and functional capacity

Background: Floorball training offers a motivating and socially stimulating team activity for older adults, and 12 weeks of floorball training twice a week among men aged 65—76 years have been shown to have positive effects on a number of physiological parameters important for health. However, the effect of long-term participation in floorball training among male elderly has not been investigated. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of 26-month self-organized regular participation in floorball training on cardiovascular fitness, body composition, blood lipids, glucose control, and physical function among recreationally active men aged 66—78 years.Methods: After completing a 12-week randomized and controlled intervention with floorball and petanque training in the autumn 2014 or spring2015, 15 subjects chose to participate in floorball training(floorball group, FG), whereas 16 subjects resumed their usual lifestyle(control group,CG). FG took part in self-organized floorball training 1.7 sessions of 40 min/week, and CG continued their normal recreationally active lifestyle during a 26-month follow-up period. At baseline and after the follow-up period subjects were tested for cardiovascular fitness, glucose control(resting blood samples), body composition dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DXA-scanning), and functional capacity.Results: In FG, the decline in maximal oxygen uptake(VO_(2max)) during the follow-up period was lower(242 ± 379 ml/min, p = 0.01), blood glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) increased less(—1.6 ± 2.9 mmol/l, p = 0.02), and leg bone mineral density increased more(0.03 ± 0.05 g/cm^2,p = 0.02) than those in CG. The effects on body mass, total lean body mass, fat mass, blood lipids, and physical function were similar in FG and CG.Conclusion: Approximately twice weekly floorball sessions with 40 min/session over 26-month appear to reduce age-related decline in cardiovascular fitness and glucose control and improve leg bone mineral density, suggesting that long-term participation in floo

Aerobic metabolism is fundamental for almost all animal life. Cellular consumption of oxygen （O2） and production of carbon dioxide （CO2） signal metabolic states and physiologic stresses. These respiratory gases are also detected as environmental cues that can signal external food quality and the presence of prey, predators and mates. In both contexts, animal nervous systems are endowed with mechanisms for sensing O2/CO2 to trigger appropriate behaviors and maintain homeostasis of internal O2/CO2. Although different animal species show different behavioral responses to O2/CO2, some underlying molecular mechanisms and pathways that function in the detection of respiratory gases are fundamentally similar and evolutionarily conserved. Studies of Caenorhabditis elegans and Drosophila melanogaster have identified roles for cyclic nucleotide signaling and the hypoxia inducible factor （HIF） transcriptional pathway in mediating behavioral responses to respiratory gases. Understanding how simple invertebrate nervous systems detect respiratory gases to control behavior might reveal general principles common to nematodes, insects and vertebrates that function in the molecular sensing of respiratory gases and the neural control of animal behaviors.
