One of the most complex questions in quantitative biology is how to manage noise sources and the subsequent consequences for cell functions. Noise in genetic networks is inevitable, as chemical reactions are probabilistic and often, genes, mRNAs and proteins are present in variable numbers per cell. Previous research has focused on counting these numbers using experimental methods such as complex fluorescent techniques or theoretical methods by characterizing the probability distribution of mRNAs and proteins numbers in cells. In this work, we propose a modeling based approach;we build a mathematical model that is used to predict the number of mRNAs and proteins over time, and develop a computational method to extract the noise-related information in such a biological system. Our approach contributes to answering the question of how the number of mRNA and proteins change in living cells over time and how these changes induce noise. Moreover, we calculate the entropy of the system;this turns out to be important information for prediction which could allow us to understand how noise information is generated and expanded.

Companies are generally focused on how to improve their global performance. Concepts, methods and tools are regularly used to transform them. Key performance indicators are used to measure how performance is increased. Industry 4.0 concepts and sustainability expectations actually contribute to this performance improvement. Indeed, cybersecurity as one of these concepts is required to increase the company performance. Even if it is well-known and applied in companies through the protection of their information systems, progress is expected in research on how to ensure the security of data and factory processes in the manufacturing, as the number of cyberattacks towards industries is growing these last few years. This paper aims to increase the company performance and sustainability to enforce factory machines protection by creating private security network groups. But currently, most of the Programmable Logic Controller PLC protocols have not been securely designed. Thus, the creation of secure groups of machines by combining strong authentication, strong or lightweight ciphering, and data stream integrity is proposed. The security is enforced by a continuous key’s renewal algorithm. An experiment on an industry’s architecture has been led to validate the concepts of the proposition. The study is compared to existing OPC-UA and MACsec standards in terms of drawbacks and advantages. This work could be implemented in hardware for further performance improvement.

Characteristics of Prostate Cancers Missed by Biopsies: Evaluation of Cumulative Tumor Volume Missed According to Cancer True Prevalence

Purpose: To characterize missed prostate tumors and their cumulative volume with various biopsy regimens to determine optimal biopsy schemes. Methods: We performed 6, 12 and 18-core needle biopsies on 165 and 36-core biopsies on 47 autopsy prostates, respectively. The 6-core biopsy included 6 cores from the mid peripheral zone (MPZ), the 12-core biopsy included 6 cores from the MPZ and lateral PZ (LPZ), and the 18-core biopsies included 6 cores from the MPZ, LPZ and central zone (CZ). The 36-core biopsies included 12 cores in each of these 3 areas. We analyzed the sensitivity of biopsies at each site and evaluated the cumulative volume of cancers and tumor foci missed. Results: Whole-mount analysis identified 59 cancers, 110 tumor foci, and a total cumulative tumor volume of 43 cm3. The percentage of tumor foci and corresponding cumulative volume missed with 6, 12, 18 and 36-core biopsies were of 79% and 58%, 64% and 48%, 57% and 26%, and 42% and 17%, respectively (p 0.05). 12-core biopsies from the MPZ and LPZ performed best for clinically significant cancers detection. However, increasing the number of cores over the 6-core biopsy cutoff increased solely the detection of tumor foci 0.5 cm3. Conclusion: Twelve biopsies from the MPZ and LPZ detected most of the clinically significant cancers while missing most of the tumor foci. These missed tumors represented only a small amount of the overall cancer volume.

AIM To determine the effect of tempol in normal rats fed high salt on arterial pressure and the balance between antagonist components of the renal renin-angiotensin *** Sprague-Dawley rats were fed with 8% NaCl high-salt （HS） or 0.4% NaCl （normal-salt, NS） diet for 3 wk, with or without tempol （T）（1 mmol/L, administered in drinking water）. Mean arterial pressure （MAP）, glomerular fltration rate （GFR）, and urinary sodium excretion （UVNa） were measured. We evaluated angiotensin Ⅱ （Ang Ⅱ）, angiotensin 1-7 （Ang 1-7）, angiotensin converting enzyme 2 （ACE2）, mas receptor （MasR）, angiotensin type 1 receptor （AT1R） and angiotensin type 2 receptor （AT2R） in renal tissues by *** intake of high sodium produced a slight but signifcant increase in MAP and differentially regulated components of the renal renin-angiotensin system （RAS）. This included an increase in Ang Ⅱ and AT1R, and decrease in ACE-2 staining intensity using immunohistochemistry. Antioxidant supplementation with tempol increased natriuresis and GFR, prevented changes in blood pressure and reversed the imbalance of renal RAS components. This includes a decrease in Ang Ⅱ and AT1R, as increase in AT2, ACE2, Ang （1-7） and MasR staining intensity using immunohistochemistry. In addition, the natriuretic effects of tempol were observed in NS-T group, which showed an increased staining intensity of AT2, ACE2, Ang （1-7） and *** These findings suggest that a high salt diet leads to changes in the homeostasis and balance between opposing components of the renal RAS in hypertension to favour an increase in Ang Ⅱ. Chronic antioxidant supplementation can modulate the balance between the natriuretic and antinatriuretic components of the renal RAS.

本研究首次提出一条技术、经济和环境可行的技术路线,能够从高度复杂的电子废弃物陶瓷部分中回收稀土钕,从而实现盈利。凭借同步拆解、机器视觉和多能X射线透射耦合分选,可以有效解决电子废弃物中Nd元素高度稀散而导致的富集难题。凭借精准的物理富矿过程可进一步降低电子元件元素组成的复杂性。上述过程所获得的Nd精矿(BaO-NdO-TiO介电材料)只需经过简单的浸出和沉淀,即可实现高选择性的Nd回收。这种集成的Nd回收路线以高回收效率(91.1%)获得高纯度的NdO产品(>99.6%)。本研究具有广阔的应用前景,为那些电子废弃物中未被开采的"特种金属"提供经济和环境有利的回收之道。

Individual male rats may systematically display or not copulatory behavior when paired with receptive females. Although these phenotypes are associated with differences in brain organization and function, they might also do so at the level of the reproductive organs. We then used high performance liquid chromatography to quantify serotonin concentration and the activity of tryptophan hydroxylase in the reproductive organs of copulator and non-copulator males. Sexual behavior display was compared between groups and parameters of fertility and reproductive fitness were determined for copulator males. Copulator males had higher concentrations of serotonin in the epididymis, testicle and ventral prostate than their non-copulator counterparts, as it was found for epididymal and testicular tryptophan hydroxylase activity. However, preliminary data shows that serotonin elevation occurs in copulator males only until they have accumulated several sexual encounters, so it might be a response to genital gratification or sexual rewarding. Interestingly, only epididymal serotonin concentration correlated with reproductive fitness, offspring number, mating success and seminal plug volume in copulator males. Our results support that copulator and non-copulator male rats feature a phenotype-specific serotoninergic tone in the epididymis, testicle and ventral prostate gland. The observation documenting that epididymal serotonin concentration correlated with parameters that monitor male fertility and reproductive fitness in copulator males predicts that epididymal factors increase their chances of parenting offspring.
