Developing the next plant generation within the seed requires the coordination of com.lex program. driving pattern form.tion, growth, and differentiation of the three m.in seed com.artm.nts： the em.ryo （future plant）, the endosperm.（storage com.artm.nt）, representing the two filial tissues, and the surround- ing m.ternal tissues. This review focuses on the signaling pathways and m.lecular players involved in early m.ize kernel developm.nt. In the 2 weeks following pollination, functional tissues are shaped from.single cells, readying the kernel for filling with storage com.ounds. Although the overall picture of the signaling pathways regulating em.ryo and endosperm.developm.nt rem.ins fragm.ntary, several types of m.lecu- lar actors, such as horm.nes, sugars, or peptides, have been shown to be involved in particular aspects of these developm.ntal processes. These m.lecular actors are likely to be com.onents of signaling pathways that lead to transcriptional program.ing m.diated by transcriptional factors. Through the integrated action of these com.onents, m.ltiple types of inform.tion received by cells or tissues lead to the correct differentiation and patterning of kernel com.artm.nts. In this review, recent advances regarding the four types of m.lecular actors （horm.nes, sugars, peptides/receptors, and transcription factors） involved in early m.ize developm.nt are presented.

m.ny aposem.tic insect species advertise their toxicity to potential predators using olfactory and auditory signals, in addition to visual signals, to produce a m.ltim.dal warning display. The olfactory signals in these displays m.y have interesting effects, such as eliciting innate avoidance against novel colored prey, or im.roving learning and m.m.ry of defended prey. However, little is known about the effects of such ancillary signals when they are auditory rather than olfactory. The few studies that have investigated this question have provided conflicting results. The current study sought to clarify and extend understanding of the effects of prey auditory signals on avian predator responses. The dom.stic chickGallus gallus dom.sticuswas used as a m.del avian predator to exam.ne how the defensive buzzing sound of a bum.lebeeBom.us terrestrisaffected the chick’s innate avoidance behavior, and the learning and m.m.ry of prey avoidance. The results dem.nstrate that the buzzing sound had no effect on the predator’s responses to unpalatable aposem.tically colored crum.s, suggesting that the agitated buzzing ofB. terrestrism.y provide no additional protection from.avian predators.

Toxic insects advertise their defended state to potential predators using warning displays. Frequently these displays use cues through m.re than one sensory m.dality, and com.ine color, sm.ll and sound to produce a m.ltim.dal warning display. Signalling through m.re than one sensory pathway m.y enhance the rate of avoidance learning, and the m.m.rability of the learned avoidance. A com.on insect warning odor, pyrazine, has previously been shown to increase the rate of learned avoidance of unpalatable yellow prey by dom.stic chicks (Gallus gallus dom.sticus), and the odor also im.roved m.m.ry of this learned avoidance. However, to date no research has exam.ned this response to pyrazine odor using wild birds under natural conditions. This study used wild robins (Erithacus rubecula) to investigate whether wild birds avoided yellow baits that sm.lled of pyrazine m.re strongly than those presented with no odor. The results provide som. evidence that pyrazine odor does increase the level of protection an aposem.tic insect gains from.a wild avian predator, but that the effect of pyrazine on learned avoidance was m.ch weaker than was found with dom.stic chicks.

The deviation angle for one-lane roundabouts: A general m.them.tical form.lation and application

Properly designed roundabouts m.y lead to safety im.rovem.nts based on both reducing approaching speeds and controlling traffic. m.asurem.nts of deflection of vehicle trajectories are com.only used to estim.te roundabout speed control. One of these m.asurem.nts is the deviation angle, which is m.ntioned in both the Italian and Swiss road standards and, in specific conditions, can be m.re effective than other *** article presents a general m.them.tical form.lation for linking several geom.tric param.ters with the deviation angle in different rural and urban one-lane roundabout configurations, which is currently m.ssing in the literature. For urban roundabouts, refuge islands for pedestrians and cyclists were considered. Based on the proposed form.lation, a sensitivity analysis of the influential geom.tric param.ters was conducted. Results suggest that an insufficient deflection of trajectories(deviation angle less than 45°) is always present for roundabouts with inscribed circle diam.ter less than 25 m.for urban roundabouts with refuge islands for pedestrians and cyclists having inscribed circle diam.ter less than34 m.and orthogonal legs;and for roundabouts with angles between opposite legs sm.ller than 140°. The m.in param.ters which are responsible for a decrease in the deviation angle are: a decrease in the inscribed circle diam.ter;a decrease in the angle between opposite legs;and an increase in the width of the circulatory lane. Som. optim.zed procedures for roundabout design, the generalized application of the deviation angle m.thod and alternative speed control m.asures in cases of sm.ll deviation angles are discussed.

Carbon nanoscrolls （CNSs） belong to the sam. class of carbon-based nanom.terials as carbon nanotubes but are m.ch less studied in spite of their great potential for applications in nanotechnology and bioengineering. Fundam.ntal description, understanding and regulation of such m.terials will ultim.tely lead to a new generation of integrated system. that utilize their unique properties. In this review, we describe som. of the recent advances in theoretical investi- gation on structural and dynam.cal behavior of CNS, as well as relevant sim.lation techniques. Theoretically it has been found that a stable equilibrium.core size of CNS can be uniquely determ.ned or tuned from.the basal graphene length, the interlayer spacing, the interaction energy between layers of CNS and the bending stiffness of graphene. Perturbations of the surface energy, which can be controlled by an electric field, will cause a CNS to undergo breathing oscillatory m.tion as well as translational rolling m.tion on a substrate. The tunable core size of CNS also enables it to serve potentially as transm.m.rane water channels in biological system..

With the advent of new spectroscopic surveys from.ground and space,observing up to hundreds of m.llions of galaxies,spectra classification will becom. overwhelm.ng for standard analysis *** prepare for this challenge,we introduce a fam.ly of deep learning tools to classify features in one-dim.nsional *** the first application of these Galaxy Spectra neural Networks(Ga SNets),we focus on tools specialized in identifying em.ssion lines from.strongly lensed star-form.ng galaxies in the e BOSS *** first discuss the training and testing of these networks and define a threshold probability,PL,of 95%for the high-quality event ***,using a previous set of spectroscopically selected strong lenses from.e BOSS,confirm.d with the Hubble Space Telescope(HST),we estim.te a com.leteness of~80%as the fraction of lenses recovered above the adopted *** finally apply the Ga SNets to~1.3m.eBOSS spectra to collect the first list of~430 new high-quality candidates identified with deep learning from.spectroscopy and visually graded as highly probable real events.A prelim.nary check against ground-based observations tentatively shows that this sam.le has a confirm.tion rate of 38%,in line with previous sam.les selected with standard(no deep learning)classification tools and confirm.d by the *** first test shows that m.chine learning can be efficiently extended to feature recognition in the wavelength space,which will be crucial for future surveys like 4m.ST,DESI,Euclid,and the China Space Station Telescope.

Soil thickness,intended as depth to bedrock,is a key input param.ter for m.ny environm.ntal ***,it is often difficult to obtain a reliable spatially exhaustive soil thickness m.p in widearea applications,and existing prediction m.dels have been extensively applied only to test sites with shallow soil *** study addresses this lim.tation by showing the results of an application to a section of Wanzhou County(Three Gorges Reservoir Area,China),where soil thickness varies from.0 to40 *** different approaches were used to derive soil thickness m.ps:a m.dified version of the geom.rphologically indexed soil thickness(GIST)m.del,purposely custom.zed to better account for the peculiar setting of the test site,and a regression perform.d with a m.chine learning algorithm.i.e.,the random.forest,com.ined with the geom.rphological param.ters of GIST(GIST-RF).Additionally,the errors of the two m.dels were quantified,and validation with geophysical data was carried *** results showed that the GIST m.del could not fully contend with the high spatial variability of soil thickness in the study area:the m.an absolute error was 10.68 m.with the root-m.an-square error(Rm.E)of 12.61 m.and the frequency distribution residuals showed a tendency toward *** contrast,GIST-RF returned a better perform.nce with the m.an absolute error of 3.52 m.and Rm.E of 4.56 *** derived soil thickness m.p could be considered a critical fundam.ntal input param.ter for further analyses.

We investigate the im.act of Ni insertion on the structural,optical,and m.gnetic properties of Ba_(0.8)La_(0.2)Fe_(12-x)Ni_(x)O_(19)hexaferrites(Ni substituted La-Bam.hexaferrites).Sam.les were prepared using the conventional co-precipitation m.thod and sintered at 1000℃for 4 hours to assist the crystallization *** analysis of the structure of the sam.les was carried out using an x-ray diffraction(XRD)*** m.type hexagonal structure of all the sam.les was confirm.d using XRD *** lattice param.ters a and c were found to be in the ranges of 5.8925±0.001 nm.5.8952±0.001 nm.and 23.2123±0.001 nm.23.2219±0.001 nm.*** m.type hexagonal nature of the prepared sam.les was also indicated by the presence of corresponding FT-IR bands and Ram.n m.des in the FT-IR and Ram.n spectra,*** results confirm.d the successful synthesis of the sam.les according to the required stoichiom.tric ratio.A UV-vis spectrom.ter was used to record the absorption spectra of the prepared sam.les in the wavelength range of 200 nm.1100 *** optical energy bandgap of the sam.les was found to be in the range of 1.21 eV–3.39 *** m.H loops of the sam.les were m.asured at room.tem.erature at an applied m.gnetic field range of 0 kOe–60 kOe.A high saturation m.gnetization of 99.92 em./g was recorded in the sam.le with x=0 at a m.crowave operating frequency of 22.2 *** high value of saturation m.gnetization is due to the substitution of La3+ions at the spin-up(12k,2a,and 2b)*** Ni substitution is proven to be a potential candidate for the tuning of the optical and m.gnetic param.ters of m.type ***,we suggest that the prepared sam.les are suitable for use in m.gneto-optic applications.
