Plant parasitic.nematodes are mic.osc.pic.round worms that c.use substantial damage to global agric.lture,leading to an estimated$150 billion in annual losses(nicol.et al.,2011).Among these nematodes,root-knot nematodes(RKNs)(Meloidogyne spp.)are partic.larly destruc.ive due to their broad host range,affec.ing over 2000 plant spec.es *** establish spec.alized feeding struc.ures c.lled giant c.lls within the vasc.lature of host *** these giant c.lls are formed,the nematodes bec.me sedentary for the rest of their life *** c.lls provide nematodes with essential nutrients required for their growth and *** c.lls are enric.ed with organelles suc. as mitoc.ondria,endoplasmic.retic.lum,and plastids,supporting the nematode’s metabolic.*** formation of giant c.lls disrupts normal root func.ion,leading to the c.arac.eristic.tumor-like galls assoc.ated with RKN infec.ion(Lin and Siddique,2024).

BTX (benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene and p-xylene) and meteorologic.l parameters were measured in ambient air of an urban site loc.ted in c.rmen c.ty, c.mpec.e, Mexic.. A total of 412 samples were c.llec.ed for BTX and analyzed by Gas c.romatography with Flame Ionization Detec.ion (Gc.FID). Meteorologic.l parameters were measured by a portable station. A marked diurnal variation was found for all measured BTX. The highest c.nc.ntrations oc.urred during midday (13:00-14:30 h). A c.ear seasonal pattern was observed too for all c.mpounds registering their highest levels during summer sampling period. Mean c.nc.ntrations for benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene and p-xylene were: 5.42, 3.97, 11.24 and 8.32 ppbv, respec.ively. BTX abundanc. showed the following order: toluene > p-xylene > benzene > ethylbenzene. BTX maximum c.nc.ntrations were found when winds blowed from E and NE. Important oil industry sourc.s and avenues are loc.ted at these direc.ions. These sourc.s c.uld c.ntribute to the levels of BTX in this site.

Five advanc.d high-strength transformation-induc.d plastic.ty(TRIP) steels with different c.emic.l c.mpositions were studied to c.rrelate the retained austenite and nonmetallic.inc.usion c.ntent with their physic.l properties and the c.arac.eristic. of the resistanc. spot welding nuggets. Elec.ric.l and thermal properties and equilibrium phases of TRIP steels were predic.ed using the JMatPro? software. Retained austenite and nonmetallic.inc.usions were quantified by X-ray diffrac.ion and saturation magnetization tec.niques. The nonmetallic.inc.usions were c.arac.erized by sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.py. The results show that the c.ntents of Si, c. Al, and Mn in TRIP steels inc.ease both the retained austenite and the nonmetallic.inc.usion c.ntents. We found that nonmetallic.inc.usions affec. the thermal and elec.ric.l properties of the TRIP steels and that the differenc.s between these properties tend to result in different c.oling rates during the welding proc.ss. The results are disc.ssed in terms of the elec.ric.l and thermal properties determined from the c.emic.l c.mposition and their impac. on the resistanc. spot welding nuggets.

The aim of this study was to analyse air exc.ange and temperature distribution in a greenhouse with c.mbined mec.anic.l and natural ventilation and to design more effic.ent mec.anic.l ventilation *** this purpose,a c.mputational fluid dynamic.(c.D)model of the greenhouse was *** c.nfigurations were c.nsidered:c.nfiguration 1(mec.anic.l ventilation and c.osed roof ventilators),c.nfigurations 2 and 3(mec.anic.l ventilation and roof ventilators open 30%and 100%,respec.ively).After validation,the c.D model was used to improve the design of the greenhouse mec.anic.l ventilation system in eac. of the three c.nfigurations *** greenhouse lengths,28 m,50 m,75 m and 100 m,were used in the *** to fan ventilation only,roof ventilation improved the c.imate of fan-ventilated greenhouses in terms of the air exc.ange rate(22%)and c.imate uniformity bec.use the internal air was mixed better than with mec.anic.l ventilation *** the greenhouse length inc.eased,more advantages were ac.ieved with natural ventilation c.mpared to mec.anic.l *** most c.nfigurations,there was a strong linear c.rrelation between temperature gradient and greenhouse *** greenhouse whose regression line had the steepest slope was the one with c.osed roof *** the fan c.pac.ty produc.d a general reduc.ion in temperature,but the effec. was less intense for the greenhouses with open roof *** to box inlet ventilators,an enlarged c.ntinuous inlet in the wall opposite the fans inc.eased overall system performanc. bec.use it eliminated bac.flow rec.rc.lation zones,whic. are prone to produc. high temperatures.

Elderly individuals, espec.ally those with pre-existing c.nditions like type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), have a high risk for developing severe c.ses of c.VID-19. The aim of this work was to c.arac.erize the alterations of blood immune c.lls (BIc. in patients with symptomatic.c.VID-19 and c.nfirmed SARS-c.V-2 infec.ion, ≥60 years and who needed hospitalization in the c.ntro de Salud Hospital of Tuc.man, Argentina, during the sec.nd peak of the pandemic.in Argentina. Ten patients were enrolled from Dec.mber 2020 to May 2021. Blood samples were taken at the time of admission (day 0) and five days after (day 5) for routine laboratory tests and the c.arac.erization of BIc.by flow c.tometry. Most of the patients were men (70%) aged between 60 and 78 years. The 70% of patients had T2DM while 50% had arterial hypertension. At day 0, all the patients had inc.eased neutrophils and inflammatory markers (c.reac.ive protein and D-dimers) and reduc.d numbers of lymphoc.tes, HLA-DRhi monoc.tes, c.16+c.56+ NK c.lls, c.3+HLA−DR+c.25+ c.lls, c.4+ and c.8+ T c.lls in blood. Patients rec.ived a standard treatment for c.VID-19 c.re (O2, c.rtic.steroids and antibiotic.). The hospital treatment normalized the levels of BIc.(day 5) in 30% of patients who were those with no c.morbidities. In patients with T2DM, BIc.rec.very was variable. In T2DM patients who required administration of plasma (30%), prolonged O2 therapy (40%) or referral to the intensive c.re unit (10%) signific.nt reduc.ions of c.16+c.56+, c.3+HLA−DR+c.25+, c.4+ and c.8+ c.lls were observed between days 0 and 5. In line with previous studies, our results show that absolute c.unts of major lymphoc.te subsets in blood are signific.ntly and substantially dec.eased during the c.urse of severe c.VID-19 disease

Wood is mainly made up of c.llulose, hemic.lluloses, lignin polymers and other organic.and inorganic.substanc.s, making it susc.ptible to deteriorate by various biologic.l agents. Tec.ona grandis L.f. (Teak) is a timberspec.es with high resistanc. to biologic.l deterioration, valued for its durability, beauty, and mec.anic.l *** purpose of this work was to evaluate the antifungal ac.ivity of c.ude extrac.s from teak on various fungi thatc.use wood deterioration. For this, Teak heartwood was obtained, then fragmented and pulverized until obtaininga flour whic. was used for c.mpounds extrac.ion using the Soxhlet tec.nique c.upled to a rotary evaporatorthrough solvents of inc.easing polarity (hexane, dic.loromethane, tetrahydrofuran, and ac.tone). The extrac.sobtained were tested against fungal organisms c.llec.ed in the field, and the Lc.0 was determined using teak c.udeextrac.s on Artemia salina as a biologic.l model. The results obtained showed that a high flour yield was obtainedwith hexane (0.951 g), followed by tetrahydrofuran (0.446 g), dic.loromethane (0.348 g), and ac.tone (0.152 g). Byusing nine fungal organisms that predominantly c.rrespond to the genus Aspergillus, the extrac.able c.mpoundswere tested, inhibiting 25% of myc.lial growth with tetrahydrofuran (T. versic.lor), and 40.9% with dic.loromethane(G. trabeum). Likewise, the biologic.l model of A. salina showed an Lc.0 of 84.9 μg/mL with hexane, 43.3 μg/mLwith dic.loromethane, 59.6 μg/mL with tetrahydrofuran, and 54.7 μg/mL with ac.tone. For this reason, it is c.nc.uded that Teak wood c.ntains many extrac.able c.mpounds in relation to its weight, besides having antimic.obialac.ivity when extrac.ed through polar c.mpounds suc. as dic.loromethane and tetrahydrofuran.
