Nanocrystal coalescence has attracted paramount attention in nanostructure fabrication in the past decades. Tremendous endeavor and progress have been made in understanding its mechanisms, benefiting from the development of transmission electron microscopy. However, many mechanisms still remain unclear, especially for nanocrystals that lack a permanent dipole moment standing on a solid substrate. Here, we report an in situ coalescence of Pt nanocrystals on an amorphous carbon substrate induced by electron-excitation- enhanced van der Waals interactions studied by transmission electron microscopy and first principles calculations. It is found that the electron-beam-induced excitation can significantly enhance the van der Waals interaction between Pt nanocrystals and reduce the binding energy between Pt nanocrystals and the carbon substrate, both of which promote the coalescence. This work extends our understanding of the nanocrystal coalescence observed in a transmission electron microscope and sheds light on a potential pathway toward practical electron- beam-controlled nanofabrication.

Opposite to mechanical dredging by machine, hydraulic flushing or drawdown flushing is a technique utilizes the nature power of flow, by lowing the water level downstream, to excavate sediment deposit from either a reservoir or a settling basin. Flume experiments are performed and two phenomena are found significant in the processes of flushing. One is moving drop flow and the other. moving hydraulic jumps. Drop flow takes place at a point when water-level lowing occurs at the downstream of that point due to erosion of downstream sediment. Hydraulic jump following the drop flow is a transition from supercritical to subcritical flow condition. Together, the process of hydraulic flushing consists of a series of trans-critical drop flows (or cascade) along with moving scouring. Volume erosion ratio (VER) is defined as the percentage of accumulated volume eroded from original deposit. VER is plotted against time of operation for quantifying the efficiency of hydraulic flushing. Typical pattern of VER is a curve rapidly increase at the beginning and gradually become a constant as an equilibrium slope reached. Opening of sluice gate, slope of flume, and inflow discharge are three factors affecting the VER curve in terms of the final stage, but not the time required. According to the regression formula based on experimental data,weighting among three factors reveals that the most important factor is the opening of sluice gate, second the slope of flume, and inflow discharge is the least important *** optimal control, a best flushing rate can be obtained, which can be interpreted as saving of water volume for same sediment removal within an acceptable duration.

Printed-circuit board (PCB) elliptic antennas with useful bandwidth exceeding 10:1 ratio are suitable for wideband radar, wireless ultra wideband (UWB) and other wireless communication applications. We present wideband PCB elliptic dipole antennas which are capable of achieving the bandwidth requirements for all the applications. A set of elliptic dipole antennas with varying eccentricities have been fabricated for demonstration. We find one specific size (specific eccentricity) dipole that can yield an impressive 1.5-16 bandwidth exceeding the currently available. A couple of elliptic dipole antennas suitable for UWB application have been presented. We have measured swept frequency response, impedance and radiation patterns of all dipoles. An empirical formula is given for calculating the starting resonant frequency within the operating band. The calculated values are found in good agreement with measured results.

mc211vm is a process-level ARM-to-x86 binary translator developed in our lab in the past several years. Currently, it is able to emulate singlethreaded programs. We extend mc211vm to emulate multi-threaded programs. Our main task is to reconstruct its architecture for multi-threaded programs. Register mapping, code cache management, and address mapping in mc2llvm have all been modified. In addition, to further speed up the emulation, we collect hot paths, aggressively optimize and generate code for them at run time. Additional threads are used to alleviate the overhead. Thus, when the same hot path is walked through again, the corresponding optimized native code will be executed instead. In our experiments, our system is 8.8X faster than QEMU （quick emulator） on average when emulating the specified benchmarks with 8 guest threads.

AIM To characterize patients with gastric peritoneal carcinomatosis(PC) and their typical clinical and treatment course with palliative systemic chemotherapy as the current standard of *** We performed a retrospective electronic chart review of all patients with gastric adenocarcinoma with PC diagnosed at initial metastatic presentation between January 2010 and December 2014 in a single tertiary referral *** We studied a total of 271 patients with a median age of 63.8 years and median follow-up duration of 5.1 mo. The majority(n = 217, 80.1%) had the peritoneum as the only site of metastasis at initial presentation. Palliative systemic chemotherapy was eventually planned for 175(64.6%) of our patients at initial presentation, of which 171 were initiated on it. Choice of first-line regime was in accordance with the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Guidelines for Gastric Cancer Treatment. Thesepatients underwent a median of one line of chemotherapy, completing a median of six cycles in total. Chemotherapy disruption due to unplanned hospitalizations occurred in 114(66.7%), while cessation of chemotherapy occurred in 157(91.8%), with 42 cessations primarily attributable to PC-related complications. Patients who had initiation of systemic chemotherapy had a significantly better median overall survival than those who did not(10.9 mo vs 1.6 mo, P < 0.001). Of patients who had initiation of systemic chemotherapy, those who experienced any disruptions to chemotherapy due to unplanned hospitalizations had a significantly worse median overall survival compared to those who did not(8.7 mo vs 14.6 mo, P < 0.001).CONCLUSION Gastric PC carries a grim prognosis with a clinical course fraught with disease-related complications which may attenuate any survival benefit which palliative systemic chemotherapy may have to offer. As such, investigational use of regional therapies is warranted and required validation in patients with isolated PC to maximize their

This paper investigates fuzzy output feedback control for a class of nonlinear distributed parameter systems that is described by first-order hyperbolic partial differential equations（PDEs）.Firstly,a nonlinear hyperbolic PDE model is represented by the polynomial fuzzy PDE *** on the parallel distributed compensation technique（PDC）,a polynomial output feedback fuzzy controller is then constructed to guarantee exponential stability of closed-loop polynomial fuzzy hyperbolic PDE system.A sufficient condition for existence of such fuzzy controller is presented in terms of sum-of-squares（SOS）.Finally,numerical simulation results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness and validity of the proposed results.
