Aim： To evaluate the anti-proliferative activity and mitochondrial toxicity of gossypol in endometrioma cells maintained in short-term cultures. Methods：（A） Three endometrioma cell lines from patients were treated with 25 or 50 nmol/L gossypol for up to 12 days. The effect of gossypol on the cell growth was recorded. （b） A phosphorescence oxygen analyzer was used to determine the effects of gossypol on mitochondrial oxygen consumption of six endometrioma cell lines from patients. （C） Cellular gossypol accumulations in three endometrioma cell lines from patients were measured by high-pressure liquid chromatography. Results： Proliferation of the endometrioma cells was inhibited by 25 and 50 nmol/L gossypol. Respiration of the endometrioma cells was inhibited by 10 μmol/L gossypol. Cellular gossypol was detected in the endometrioma cell lines that were treated for 24 h with l0 and 0.3 μmol/L gossypol. Conclusion： Gossypol invokes a potent toxicity on cultured endometrioma cells.

Titanium and titanium alloys are currently being used for clinical biomedical applications due to their high strength, corrosion resistance and elastic modulus. The Ti-30Ta alloy has gotten extensive application as the important biomedical materials. The substrate surface of the Ti-30Ta alloy was altered either by chemical or topographical surface modification. The biocompatibility of an implant is closely related to its surface properties. Thus surface modification is one of effective methods for improving the biocompatibility of implants. The development status of biomedical materials has been summarized firstly, the biomedical application. In this study Ti-30Ta alloy surface was investigate as-casting (Group 1) modified with alkaline and heat-treatments in NaOH with 1.5M at 60°C for 24 hrs (Group 2), alkaline and heat-treatments with SbF-coatings by immersion in NaOH and SbFX5 for 24hrs (Group 3), anodization process was performed in an electrolyte solution containing HF (48%) and H2SO4 (98%) with the addition of 5% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) 35V for 40 min (Group 4) and ion beam etching with 1200 eV ions with a beam current of 200 mA for a 3 hrs etch (Group 5). SEM was used to investigate the topography, EDS the chemical composition, and surface energy was evaluate with water contact angle measurement. SEM results show different structure on the surface for each group. EDS spectra identified similarity on Group 1, 4 and 5. The results indicate for group 2 an amorphous sodium tantalate hydrogel layer on the substrate surface and for group 3 the apatite nucleation on substrate surface. The Group 4 shows unorganized and vertically nanotubes and Group 5 shows a little alteration in the topography on the substrate surfaces. Overall the contact angle shows Group 5 the most hydrophobic and Group 4 the most hydrophilic. The study indicates Group 3 and 4 with potential for biomedical application. with a unique and large size of testing results of 1,842 samples collected from 12 wastewater treatment plants (wwTP) for 14 months through from low to high prevalence of COVID-19,the sensitivity of RT-qPCR detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in wastewater that correspond to the communities was computed by using Probit *** study determined the number of new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population required to detect SARS-CoV-2RNA in wastewater at defined probabilities and provided an evidence-based framework of wastewater-based epidemiology surveillance (wbE).Input data were positive and negative test results of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in wastewater samples and the corresponding new COVID-19 case rates per 100,000 population served by each *** analyses determined that RT-qPCR-based SARS-CoV-2 RNA detection threshold at 50%,80%and 99%probability required a median of 8 (range:4-19),18 (9-43),and 38 (17-97) of new COVID-19 cases/100,000,***,the positive detection rate at 50%,80%and 99%probability were 0.01%,0.02%,and 0.04%averagely for new cases in the *** study improves understanding of the performance of wbE SARS-CoV-2 RNA detection using the large datasets and prolonged study *** COVID-19 burden at a community level that would result in a positive detection of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater is critical to support wbE application as a supplementary warning/monitoring system for COVID-19 prevention and control.

Treatment of Acid Mine Drainage Using Constructed wetland in Tropical Environment： A Tanzania Case Report

The suitability of constructed wetland （Cw） in were developed. The first experiment focused on zinc and treating acid mine drainage （AMD） was investigated. Two experiments nutrients removals. Four units of horizontal subsurface flow Cws were used, two cells planted with Phragmites mauritianus, one cell with Typha domingensis and one cell unplanted （control cell）. Artificial high concentrated AMD was used. It was mixed with domestic wastewater from the anaerobic waste stabilization pond （wSP） to ensure nutrient supply to the plants in the Cw cells. The second experiment tested the tolerance of locally available macrophytes to the harsh acidic environment, while providing required condition for treatment of AMD. To accomplish this, another set of four Cw cells planted with different types of macrophytes, namely Typha domingensis, Phragmites mauritianus, Vetiver grass and Papyrus, were used thereby subjecting them to varying acid concentration ofpH of 3.5, 3.0, 2.9 and 2.7. The study demonstrated adequate zinc removal from AMD which is related to sulphide precipitation. A Cw cell planted with Typha domingensis showed higher zinc removal （80%-84%） compared to other cells. Different macrophytes showed different nutrient removal efficiency, but overall, for the type of wetland plants studied, phosphorous removal increased with decreasing pH while nitrogen removal behaved quite opposite. On the other hand, Typha domingensis, Phragmites mauritianus and Papyrus were observed to tolerate high acidity as low pH as 2.7 and therefore are suitable macrophytes for AMD treatment with Cw.

b>Background:b> Medicinal plants have been in use since the origin of man. Many important chemical substances with biological functions that could be used for treatment and prevention of attack from bacteria, fungi, herbivorous mammals and insects are produced by different plants. Such compounds with useful properties have been recorded in their numbers, about 12,000 accounting for about 10% of total plant species. Aim: The aim of the study was to determine the antimicrobial efficacies of herbal extracts on some clinical pathogens. Methods: The antimicrobial activities of pressed juices of Allium sativum (garlic), Bryophyllum pinnatum and Garcinia kola neats and their dilutions were tested on pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans to determine their susceptibility to the juices and their combinations. Agar well diffusion method was employed on Muller-Hinton agar to determine their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern. The phytochemical analysis of the plants’ juices were also determined. b>Results:b> At 100% (neat) the juices of G. kola, b. pinnatum and Garcinia kola showed substantial zones of inhibition against the pathogens with a zone diameter of about 22.0 mm and above. At 75% concentrations, the juices inhibited the pathogens tested against them. A. sativum (garlic) inhibited K. pneumonia, P. mirabilis, and S. aureus even at 50% concentration. C. albicans isolates were 60% susceptible to G. kola juice, 40% at 100% concentration. At 75% concentration of the juice, C. albicans isolates were also 60% susceptible

含铁0.6和含硅0.5的7150铝合金是采用快速凝固工艺——液体动态凝结(简称LDC)喷射沉积得到的。沉积后,喷射成积预型件被热轧到饱和密度。用轧制后的材料加工成拉伸和疲劳所用的试样,试样再热处理到T_6回火度。拉伸实验显示LDC7150+Fe/Si材料具有比工业用高纯锭轧7150薄板核对试样较低的强度和延性。LDC材料的较低强度是由于高含量的铁对铜的吸收所致。LDC7150+Fe/Si材料的疲劳裂纹生长速率被验证比工业用合金有明显的下降。这是由于LDC试样的大晶粒尺寸和组成粒子的高体积百分率,因为这样的结构与凹凸不平引发的裂纹的闭合机理有关。
