Real-time monitoring of the lithiation process in organic electrode 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane by in situ EPR

Organic electrodes are advantageous for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries owing to their high theoretical capacities, diverse functionalities, and environmental compatibility. Understanding the working mechanism of organic electrodes is vital to strategic materials design. However, due to lack of suitable characterization tools, it has been challenging to probe the reaction processes of organic electrodes in real-time. Here, non-destructive in situ electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR) was performed on a model organic electrode, 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane(TCnQ) used in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries,to directly follow the redox reactions in real-time. In order to minimize interfering signals from other parts of the batteries than the TCnQ electrode of interest, two sets of batteries are fabricated and studied with in situ EPR:(1) a Li CoO_(2)//Li_(4)Ti_5O_(12) full-cell battery to determine the EPR signal evolution of additives and electrolytes;(2) a Li CoO_(2)//TCnQ battery, and the difference in the observed EPR signals reflects purely the redox reactions of TCnQ upon lithiation and delithiation. A two-electron reversible redox reaction is delineated for TCnQ. TCnQ dimers form during the first electron injection upon lithiation and followed by the break-down of the dimers and associated electron coupling to produce massive delocalized electrons, resulting in increased EPR signal during the 2 nd electron injection. Reversible trends are observed during electron ejection upon delithiation. In situ EPR is very sensitive to electron activities,thus is a powerful tool to follow redox reactions of organic electrodes, allowing for improved fundamental understanding of how organic electrodes work and for informed design of high-performance organic materials for energy storage.

To the Editor:Recent randomized controlled trials,as well as high-quality systematic reviews and meta-analyses,strongly support the use of corticosteroids in patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)who require oxygen support.[1]The use of pulse cor-ticosteroid therapy has been reported in case series and studies,showing significant improvement in patients and a reduction in mortality rate.[2]In this letter,we report the mortality rate among patients with severe COVID-19 receiving pulse corticos-teroids with methylprednisolone(500 mg/day)for≥3 days and≥24 h before intubation(median duration of therapy:3 days)compared with standard of care.

This study represents a hybrid intelligence approach based on the differential evolution optimization and Least-Squares Support Vector Machines for shallow landslide prediction,named as *** LSSVM is used to establish a landslide prediction model whereas the DE is adopted to search the optimal tuning parameters of the LSSVM *** this research,a GIS database with 129 historical landslide records in the Quy Hop area(Central Vietnam)has been collected to establish the hybrid *** receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve and area under the curve(AUC)were used to assess the performance of the newly constructed *** results show that the proposed model has high performances with approximately 82%of AUCs on both training and validating *** model’s results were compared with those obtained from other methods,Support Vector Machines,Multilayer Perceptron neural networks,and J48 Decision *** result comparison demonstrates that the DE-LSSVMSLP deems best suited for the dataset at hand;therefore,the proposed model can be a promising tool for spatial prediction of rainfall-induced shallow landslides for the study area.

Improvement of a temperature response function for divertor heat flux monitoring in fusion devices

Temperature response functions have been developed to investigate sensor design and divertor heat flux estimation in magnetically confined plasmas. The time-dependent heat flux can be derived by fitting the response function to experimental thermocouple(TC) data. Because the TC signals have a time delay to transit events such as discharge start or confinement transition, the time delay is taken into account in a temperature response function. Such a function accurately describes the signal from each TC channel with time delay in a sensor test using a neutral beam injection. Measurement for commercial TCs shows that the time delay is caused by the finite heat capacity of TC wire and contact heat resistance between TC and target surface.

Association between measles antibodies in vaccinated and naturally infected mothers with protective antibodies and the occurrence of measles in their children:A cross-sectional study in the Bavi district of Hanoi

Objective:To determine the concentration and rate of decay of maternal IgG antibodies against measles prevalence in infants of vaccinated or naturally infected mothers and study initial measles immunization occurs in nine-month-old ***:In total,401 pregnant women and the same number of their subsequent newborns were recruited in the Bavi district of Hanoi in 2016-2017;they were divided into two groups:Older women(born before 1985,n=201)and younger women(born after 1990,n=200).Samples were collected at five time-points;week 36 of pregnancy,birth(cord),and 3,6,and 9 months after ***-specific IgG antibody levels were ***:In total,77.06% of the 401 pregnant women were seropositive for measles-specific IgG antibodies.A significantly greater proportion of mothers aged 30 and older(88.06%)and their newborn(93.53%)were seropositive compared to the mothers aged 25 and younger(66.00%),and their newborn(72.00%)(Pnfants of older mothers had significantly higher geometric mean titres(GMT)of measles IgG antibodies than the infants of younger mothers(Pnts of the study *** proportion of measles IgG antibodies together with GMT decreased from 82.97%(506.96)at the age of three months to 23.19%(45.22)at the age of nine ***:This study provides a profile of maternal antibodies against measles in Vietnamese infants and investigates the early susceptibility to measles in both the infants of vaccinated mothers and mothers with naturally acquired *** data suggest that determining the appropriate age for measles vaccination is paramount for the elimination of measles in Vietnam.

nOx emissions cause many negative impacts on the living *** photocatalysis of semiconductors is superior for nitric oxide(nO)degradation due to their low redox *** this report,we combine SnO_(2-x)/g-C_(3)n_(4)heterojunction photocatalyst toward the high selectivity into green products under visible light *** show that SnO_(2-x)/g-C_(3)n_(4)heterojunction degraded 40.8%of nO,which is 1.6 times higher than that of g-C_(3)n_(4).In addition,the selectivity coefficient of SnO_(2-x)/g-C_(3)n_(4)is higher 3 times than both pure SnO_(2-x)and g-C_(3)n_(4).Furthermore,SnO_(2-x)/g-C_(3)n_(4)expresses a superior stability for nO photocatalytic-degradation after five *** scavenger trapping test results,and electron spin resonance(ESR)analysis also provide more understanding of the charge transfer mechanism of ***_(2-x)/g-C_(3)n_(4)heterojunction shows a high removal efficiency of nO gas,making it an up-and-coming environmental treatment candidate.

Water infiltration into soil is an important process in hydrologic cycle;however,its measurement is difficult,time-consuming and *** and physical models have been developed to predict cumulative infiltration(CI),but are often *** this study,several novel standalone machine learning algorithms(M5Prime(M5P),decision stump(DS),and sequential minimal optimization(SMO))and hybrid algorithms based on additive regression(AR)(i.e.,AR-M5P,AR-DS,and AR-SMO)and weighted instance handler wrapper(WIHW)(i.e.,WIHW-M5P,WIHW-DS,and WIHW-SMO)were developed for CI *** Soil Conservation Service(SCS)model developed by the United States Department of Agriculture(USDA),one of the most popular empirical models to predict CI,was considered as a ***,154 measurements of CI(explanatory/input variables)were taken from 16 sites in a semi-arid region of Iran(Illam and Lorestan provinces).Six input variable combinations were considered based on Pearson correlations between candidate model inputs(time of measuring and soil bulk density,moisture content,and sand,clay,and silt percentages)and *** dataset was divided into two subgroups at random:70%of the data were used for model building(training dataset)and the remaining 30%were used for model validation(testing dataset).The various models were evaluated using different graphical approaches(bar charts,scatter plots,violin plots,and Taylor diagrams)and quantitative measures(root mean square error(RMSE),mean absolute error(MAE),nash-Sutcliffe efficiency(nSE),and percent bias(PBIAS)).Time of measuring had the highest correlation with CI in the study *** best input combinations were different for different *** results showed that all hybrid algorithms enhanced the CI prediction accuracy compared to the standalone *** AR-M5P model provided the most accurate CI predictions(RMSE=0.75 cm,MAE=0.59 cm,nSE=0.98),while the SCS model had the lowest performance(RMSE=4.77 cm,MAE=2.64 cm,nSE=
