Prevalence, risk factors, and BRAF mutation of colorectal sessile serrated lesions among Vietnamese patients

BACKGROUND Sessile serrated lesions(SSLs)are considered precancerous colorectal lesions that should be detected and removed to prevent colorectal cancer.Previous studies in Vietnam mainly investigated the adenoma pathway,with limited data on the serrated pathway.AIM To evaluate the prevalence,risk factors,and BRAF mutations of SSLs in the Vietnamese population.METHODS This is a cross-sectional study conducted on patients with lower gastrointestinal symptoms who underwent colonoscopy at a tertiary hospital in Vietnam.SSLs were diagnosed on histopathology according to the 2019 World Health Organi-zation classification.BRAF mutation analysis was performed using the Sanger DNA sequencing method.The multivariate logistic regression model was used to determine SSL-associated factors.RESULTS There were 2489 patients,with a mean age of 52.1±13.1 and a female-to-male ratio of 1:1.1.The prevalence of SSLs was 4.2%[95%confidence interval(CI):3.5-5.1].In the multivariate analysis,factors significantly associated with SSLs were age≥40[odds ratio(OR):3.303;95%CI:1.607-6.790],male sex(OR:2.032;95%CI:1.204-3.429),diabetes mellitus(OR:2.721;95%CI:1.551-4.772),and hypertension(OR:1.650,95%CI:1.045-2.605).The rate of BRAF mutations in SSLs was 35.5%.CONCLUSION The prevalence of SSLs was 4.2%.BRAF mutations were present in one-third of SSLs.Significant risk factors for SSLs included age≥40,male sex,diabetes mellitus,and hypertension.

Effect of Freeze-Thaw and Urea in Solubility of GPC3-Csub Protein Expressed in Escherichia coli

Glypican-3 is a protein encoded by the Glypican-3 gene located on human X chromosome (Xq26), composed of two subunits, a 40 kDa N-terminal subunit, and a 30 kDa C-terminal subunit. Glypican-3 is a currently potential target molecule for liver cancer treatments because of its over-expression and growth effects on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study examined the expression and purification of a C-terminal subunit of Glypican-3 protein (GPC3-Csub) due to its application in both diagnosis and therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma. The gene encoding for GPC3-Csub was successfully cloned into plasmid pET28a fused with an affinity tag composed of six consecutive histidine residues (His-tag). Recombinant protein GPC3-Csub was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) in the condition of adding 3% ethanol with IPTG induction. GPC3-Csub was extracted using repeated freeze-thaw cycles with lysozyme, and inclusion bodies were solubilized by 8M Urea, SDS 10% in pH 12. His-tag fused GPC3-Csub proteins allowed it to be purified by affinity chromatography method using the Nickel-nitrilotriacetic acid (Ni-NTA) column. High expression of GPC3-Csub was confirmed by Coomassie staining and western-blot. GPC3-Csub could be isolated with a Ni-NTA column and have a purity of about 90%.

Environmental pollution,such as water contamination,is a critical issue that must be absolutely addressed.Here,three different morphologies of tungsten-based photocatalysts(WO_(3)nanorods,WO_(3)/WS_(2)nanobricks,WO_(3)/WS_(2)nanorods)are made using a simple hydrothermal method by changing the solvents(H_(2)O,DMF,aqueous HCl solution).The as-prepared nanocatalysts have excellent thermal stability,large porosity,and high hydrophilicity.The results show all materials have good photocatalytic activity in aqueous media,with WO_(3)/WS_(2)nanorods(NRs)having the best activity in the photodegradation of bisphenol A(BPA)under visible-light irradiation.This may originate from increased migration of charge carriers and effective prevention of electron–hole recombination in WO_(3)/WS_(2)NRs,whereby this photocatalyst is able to generate more reactive·OH and·O_(2)^(–)species,leading to greater photocatalytic activity.About 99.6% of BPA is photodegraded within 60 min when using 1.5 g/L WO_(3)/WS_(2)NRs and 5.0 mg/L BPA at pH 7.0.Additionally,the optimal conditions(pH,catalyst dosage,initial BPA concentration)for WO_(3)/WS_(2)NRs are also elaborately investigated.These rod-like heterostructures are expressed as potential catalysts with excellent photostability,efficient reusability,and highly active effectivity in different types of water.In particular,the removal efficiency of BPA by WO_(3)/WS_(2)NRs reduces by only 1.5% after five recycling runs and even reaches 89.1%in contaminated lake water.This study provides promising insights for the nearly complete removal of BPA from wastewater or different water resources,which is advantageous to various applications in environmental remediation.

Finite element analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates with porosity via a new hyperbolic shear deformation theory

This study focusses on establishing the finite element model based on a new hyperbolic sheareformation theory to investigate the static bending,free vibration,and buckling of the functionally graded sandwich plates with porosity.The novel sandwich plate consists of one homogenous ceramic core and two different functionally graded face sheets which can be widely applied in many fields of engineering and defence technology.The discrete governing equations of motion are carried out via Hamilton’s principle and finite element method.The computation program is coded in MATLAB software and used to study the mechanical behavior of the functionally graded sandwich plate with porosity.The present finite element algorithm can be employed to study the plates with arbitrary shape and boundary conditions.The obtained results are compared with available results in the literature to confirm the reliability of the present algorithm.Also,a comprehensive investigation of the effects of several parameters on the bending,free vibration,and buckling response of functionally graded sandwich plates is presented.The numerical results shows that the distribution of porosity plays significant role on the mechanical behavior of the functionally graded sandwich plates。

The recent outbreak of the coronavirus disease of 2019(Covid-19)has been causing many disruptions among the education systems worldwide,most of them due to the abrupt transition to online learning.The sudden upsurge in digital electronic devices usage,namely personal computers,laptops,tablets and smart-phones is unprecedented,which leads to a new wave of both mental and physical health problems among students,for example eye-related illnesses.The overexpo-sure to electronic devices,extended screen time usage and lack of outdoor sun-light have put a consequential strain on the student’s ophthalmic health because of their young age and a relative lack of responsibility on their own health.Failure to take appropriate external measures to mitigate the negative effects of this pro-cess could lead to common ophthalmic illnesses such as myopia or more serious conditions.To remedy this situation,we propose a software solution that is able to track and capture images of its users’eyes to detect symptoms of eye illnesses while simultaneously giving them warnings and even offering treatments.To meet the requirements of a small and light model that is operable on low-end devices without information loss,we optimized the original MobileNetV2 model with depth-wise separable convolutions by altering the parameters in the last layers with an aim to minimize the resizing of the input image and obtained a new model which we call EyeNet.Combined with applying the knowledge distillation tech-nique and ResNet-18 as a teacher model to train the student model,we have suc-cessfully increased the accuracy of the EyeNet model up to 87.16%and support the development of a model compatible with embedded systems with limited computing power,accessible to all students.

A Deep learning Based Approach for Context-Aware Multi-Criteria Recommender Systems

Recommender systems are similar to an informationfiltering system that helps identify items that best satisfy the users’demands based on their pre-ference profiles.Context-aware recommender systems(CARSs)and multi-criteria recommender systems(MCRSs)are extensions of traditional recommender sys-tems.CARSs have integrated additional contextual information such as time,place,and so on for providing better recommendations.However,the majority of CARSs use ratings as a unique criterion for building communities.Meanwhile,MCRSs utilize user preferences in multiple criteria to better generate recommen-dations.Up to now,how to exploit context in MCRSs is still an open issue.This paper proposes a novel approach,which relies on deep learning for context-aware multi-criteria recommender systems.We apply deep neural network(DNN)mod-els to predict the context-aware multi-criteria ratings and learn the aggregation function.We conduct experiments to evaluate the effect of this approach on the real-world dataset.A significant result is that our method outperforms other state-of-the-art methods for recommendation effectiveness.

Emotional Vietnamese Speech Synthesis Using Style-Transfer learning

In recent years,speech synthesis systems have allowed for the produc-tion of very high-quality voices.Therefore,research in this domain is now turning to the problem of integrating emotions into speech.However,the method of con-structing a speech synthesizer for each emotion has some limitations.First,this method often requires an emotional-speech data set with many sentences.Such data sets are very time-intensive and labor-intensive to complete.Second,training each of these models requires computers with large computational capabilities and a lot of effort and time for model tuning.In addition,each model for each emotion failed to take advantage of data sets of other emotions.In this paper,we propose a new method to synthesize emotional speech in which the latent expressions of emotions are learned from a small data set of professional actors through a Flow-tron model.In addition,we provide a new method to build a speech corpus that is scalable and whose quality is easy to control.Next,to produce a high-quality speech synthesis model,we used this data set to train the Tacotron 2 model.We used it as a pre-trained model to train the Flowtron model.We applied this method to synthesize Vietnamese speech with sadness and happiness.Mean opi-nion score(MOS)assessment results show that MOS is 3.61 for sadness and 3.95 for happiness.In conclusion,the proposed method proves to be more effec-tive for a high degree of automation and fast emotional sentence generation,using a small emotional-speech data set.

Emotion Recognition with Capsule Neural Network

For human-machine communication to be as effective as human-tohuman communication, research on speech emotion recognition is essential.Among the models and the classifiers used to recognize emotions, neural networks appear to be promising due to the network’s ability to learn and the diversity in configuration. Following the convolutional neural network, a capsuleneural network (CapsNet) with inputs and outputs that are not scalar quantitiesbut vectors allows the network to determine the part-whole relationships thatare specific 6 for an object. This paper performs speech emotion recognition basedon CapsNet. The corpora for speech emotion recognition have been augmented byadding white noise and changing voices. The feature parameters of the recognition system input are mel spectrum images along with the characteristics of thesound source, vocal tract and prosody. For the German emotional corpus EMODB, the average accuracy score for 4 emotions, neutral, boredom, anger and happiness, is 99.69%. For Vietnamese emotional corpus BKEmo, this score is94.23% for 4 emotions, neutral, sadness, anger and happiness. The accuracy scoreis highest when combining all the above feature parameters, and this scoreincreases significantly when combining mel spectrum images with the featuresdirectly related to the fundamental frequency.

User profiles representing users’preferences and interests play an important role in many applications of personalized recommendation.With the rapid growth of social platforms,there is a critical need for efficient solutions to learn user profiles from the information they shared on social platforms so as to improve the quality of recommendation services.The problem of user profile learning is significantly challenging due to difficulty in handling data from multiple sources,in different formats and often associated with uncertainty.In this paper,we introduce an integrated approach that combines advanced Machine learning techniques with evidential reasoning based on Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence for user profiling and recommendation.The developed methods for user profile learning and multi-criteria collaborative filtering are demonstrated with experimental results and analysis that show the effectiveness and practicality of the integrated approach.A proposal for extending multi-criteria recommendation systems by incorporating user profiles learned from different sources of data into the recommendation process so as to provide better recommendation capabilities is also highlighted.

Buckling Analysis of FG Porous Truncated Conical Shells Resting on Elastic Foundations in the Framework of the Shear Deformation Theory

In this article,an analytical method is proposed to analyze of the linear buckling behavior of the FG porous truncated conical shells subjected to a uniform axial compressive load and resting on the Pasternak elastic foundation.The material properties including Young’s modulus,shear modulus and density are assumed to vary in the thickness direction.Three types of FG porous distributions including symmetric porosity distribution,non-symmetric porosity and uniform porosity distribution are considered.The governing equations of the FG porous truncated conical shells are obtained by using the first-order shear deformation theory(FSDT).With the help of the Galerkin method,the expressions for critical buckling loads are obtained in closed forms.The reliability of the obtained results is verified by comparing the present solutions with the published solutions.Finally,the numerical results show the effects of shell characteristics,porosity distribution,porosity coefficient,and elastic foundation on the critical buckling load.
