Safe Vegetable Consumption in Hue City:A Case Study of Food Safety Situation in Vietnam

Food safety has become a growing concern for citizens in the modern society when consuming unsafe food that directly impacts public health,life quality and well-being of each *** of Vietnam in general and specially in Hue city have been facing challenge of vegetable unsafety.A survey concerning the consumption of safe vegetables was conducted in Hue city,*** were collected by using a well-structured questionnaire from representative of 30 consumers,30 producers and 10 *** results showed that lettuce,sweet potato and Chinese mustard were identified as the most important vegetables to consumers in Hue *** of the consumers purchased vegetable every *** cost of vegetable in every transaction was about 30,000 *** expenditure has not created a great motivation for developing safe vegetable *** of the consumers in Hue city showed high interest,demand,trust and satisfaction for safe ***,50%of the consumers reported that the price of the safe vegetable was quite expensive and price was not matched with their ***,there were some disadvantages in each stage of vegetable supply *** example,land,seed,capital,cultivation techniques,preliminary processing,preservation,brand name,trademark and place to consume have not met the requirement of high technology production for the supply chain of safe *** chain linking between the production and consumption of vegetables is not *** and consumers do not have closely *** can not be traced to origin and there is no safe *** consumers believe the quality of vegetables depending on the prestige suppliers,such as,the vegetable shops with foreign *** vegetables of farmers are very difficult to be certified for safe *** and suggestions to Hue city are proposed that it is necessary to establish the vegetable production area in Hue *** growers should be supported w

Agrobacterium-Mediated Transformation of Cry8db Gene in Vietnam Sweet Potato Cultivar

Sweet potato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.] is an important food crop in the world as well as in Vietnam. It is well known as a recalcitrant crop for gene transformation and tissue culture because of its genotype dependent in vitro responses. In present study, Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of cry8Db from Bacillus thuringiensis into KB1 sweet potato variety has been studied. The C58cv strain carrying a pBI121 backbone which contained cry8Db delta-endotoxin gene regulated under 35S CaMV promoter, and the selection marker gene, neomycin phosphotransferase (nptII) gene, was subjected for plant transformation. Callus induced from shoot tips and leaf explants were inoculated and cocultured with A. tumefaciens. The selection occurred during callus producing and plant regenerating steps. A total of 201 transgenic putative plant lines were produced, and 21 transgenic lines were positively confirmed by PCR and finalized by Southern blot. Four putative transgenic lines confirming a single copy of the cry8Db gene were transferred into soil pots in greenhouse. Biological activity evaluation for the insecticidal capacity of these transgenic lines under controlled conditions showed that the level of infestation by sweet potato weevils (Cylas formicarius) in untransformed plants was higher than that of transgenic lines.

The diversity of aquatic resources in Thi Nai Lagoon decreased due to the lack of harmonious use and integrated long-term planning on the use of living *** remained a lack of mechanisms and regulations for coordination of activities in the lagoon by Binh Dinh Provincial People’s Committee(PPC).The aim of the study was to investgate the aquatic species and water quality in Thi Nai Lagoon,*** were collected at 23 different points on Thi Nai Lagoon,with three replicates at each *** were 106 species of fish presented on the lagoon and in different sizes,including 17 mollusc species and 15 crustaceans *** the dry season,there were 167 phytoplankton species in five divisions,10 classes in 39 orders in 59 families including 77 *** had eight chordata in 10 classes of 18 orders including 44 families,64 genus and 102 *** had the largest number of species,78 species,accounting for 76.5%of total *** the rainy season,only 48 species of Arthropoda,Cnidaria,Annelida,Chaetognatha and Rotifer were affected and some were not encountered in the wet season,such as mollusca and *** water quality variables were still good for aquaculture,within permitted limits of TCVN standard and criteria,there were still problems caused by production discharges and living activities of inhabitants around the lagoon,such as sedimentary matters.

The Effects of Nutritional Media and Initial Cell Density on the Growth and Development of Spirulina platensis

The main objective of the study was to determine the effects of nutritional media and initial cell density on the growth and development of Spirulina *** study was carried out at the Center for Incubation and Technology Transfer,Hue University from May 2015 to August *** the first experiment,*** was cultured in four different nutritional media,including Zarrouk,Spi-RIA3,Nisole and thuoc medium(Vietnamese).Resulted showed that *** grew significantly in the Zarrouk medium rather than in other nutritional medium at the same time,and gained the maximum density of 2,736.5 mg/L after 13 d inoculums,with specific growth rate of 4.987%per day and the time to doubling population of 0.139 *** the second experiment,*** was cultured in six different initial cell densities:100,400,700,1,000,1,300 and 1,600 mg/L,and the optimum nutritional medium was Zarrouk medium selected from experiment *** showed at the initial culture density of 400 mg/L,the highest biomass was gained with the maximum density of 3,071.2 mg/L after 21 d inoculums,with specific growth rate of 9.15%per day and time to double population of 0.076 *** biomass from culture in Zarrouk medium at initial cell density 400 mg/L obtained total protein of 51.98%,total lipid of 1.75%,total carbohydrate of 0.75%,carotene of 0.36%and total minerals of 5.2%,on a basis of dry matter.

河内、北江等越南北方地区年均温比广西南宁高2℃左右,光温条件比较优越,应越方要求新引入种植比巨峰葡萄早熟优质的无核夏黑葡萄,以期调节产期,满足市场需求。采用广西夏黑葡萄当年种当年收和一年两收栽培技术管理,在越南北部地区于3月上旬种植夏黑葡萄,种后4个半月于7月下旬修剪促花,剪后1个月于8月下旬开花,剪后2个月于9日下旬着色,剪后3个月于10月中下旬成熟上市,从种到收获全程9个月,平均每hm^2产量8517.0 kg,实现了当年种植当年投产的目标。为越南葡萄产业增加新的经济增长点。
