th.s paper presents a streaming system using scalable video coding based on h.264/AVC. th. system provides a congestion control algorith. supported by ch.nnel bandwidth.estimation of th. client. It uses retransmission only for packets of th. base layer to disburden th. congested network. th. bandwidth.estimation allows for adjusting th. transmission rate quickly to th. current available bandwidth.of th. network. Compared to binomial congestion control, th. proposed system allows for sh.rter start-up times and data rate adaptation. th. paper describes th. components of th.s streaming system and th. results of experiments sh.wing th.t th. proposed approach.works effectively for streaming video.

CFD Simulation of a h.drogen/Argon Plasma Jet Reactor for Coal Pyrolysis

A Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) model was formulated for DC arc h.drogen/argon plasma jet reactors used in th. process of th. th.rmal h.2/Ar plasma pyrolysis of coal to acetylene. In th.s model, fluid flow, convective h.at transfer and conjugate h.at conductivity are considered simultaneously. th. error caused by estimating th. inner-wall temperature of a reactor is avoided. th. th.rmodynamic and transport properties of th. h.drogen/argon mixture plasma system, wh.ch.are usually expressed by a set of discrete data, are fitted into expressions th.t can be easily implemented in th. program. th. effects of th. turbulence are modeled by two standard k-εequations. th. temperature field and velocity field in th. plasma jet reactor were calculated by employing SIMPLEST algorith.. th. knowledge and insigh. obtained are useful for th. design improvement and scale-up of plasma reactors.

th. corrosion beh.vior of sph.roidal graph.te and flake graph.te cast irons was studied in oxidizing and sulfidizing atmosph.res between 600 and 800℃ for 50 h. th. corrosion rate in th. sulfidizing atmosph.re was faster th.n th.t in air above 700℃, due to th. formation of th. Fe0.975S sulfide. th. corrosion rate of th. sph.roidal graph.te cast iron was similar to th.t of th. flake graph.te cast iron.

Recently,great attention h.s been paid to geopolymer concrete due to its advantageous mech.nical and environmentally friendly *** effort h.s been made in experimental studies to advance th. understanding of geopolymer concrete,in wh.ch.compressive strength.is one of th. most important *** facilitate engineering work on th. material,an efficient predicting model is *** th.s study,th.ee mach.ne learning(ML)-based models,namely deep neural network(DNN),K-nearest neigh.ors(KNN),and support vector mach.nes(SVM),are developed for forecasting th. compressive strength.of th. geopolymer concrete.A total of 375 experimental samples are collected from th. literature to build a database for th. development of th. predicting models.A careful procedure for data preprocessing is implemented,by wh.ch.outliers are examined and removed from th. database and input variables are standardized before feeding to th. fitting *** standard K-fold cross-validation approach.is applied for evaluating th. performance of th. models so th.t overfitting status is well managed,th.s th. generalizability of th. models is *** effectiveness of th. models is assessed via statistical metrics including root mean squared error(RMSE),mean absolute error(MAE),correlation coefficient(R),and th. recently proposed performance index(PI).th. basic mean square error(MSE)is used as th. loss function to be minimized during th. model fitting *** th.ee ML-based models are successfully developed for estimating th. compressive strength.for wh.ch.good correlations between th. predicted and th. true values are obtained for DNN,KNN,and *** numerical results suggest th.t th. DNN model generally outperforms th. oth.r two models.

Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission(CNSC), Canada’s nuclear regulator, conducts regulatory research.in order to develop independent knowledge on safety aspects related to th. deep geological disposal of radioactive wastes. In Canada, th. Cobourg limestone of th. Mich.gan Basin is currently considered as a potential h.st formation for geological disposal. th. understanding of th. h.dromech.nical beh.vior of such.a h.st rock is one of th. essential requirements for th. assessment of its performance as a barrier against radionuclide migration. th. excavation of galleries and sh.fts of a deep geological repository(DGR) can induce damage to th. surrounding rock. th. excavation damaged zone(EDZ) h.s h.gh.r permeability and reduced strength.compared to th. undisturbed rock and th.se factors must be considered in th. design and safety assessment of th. DGR. th. extent and ch.racteristics of th. EDZ depend on th. size of th. opening, th. rock type and its properties, and th. in situ stresses, among oth.r factors. In addition, th. extent and ch.racteristics of th. EDZ can ch.nge with.time due to rock strength.degradation, evolution of fractures with.n th. EDZ, and th. redistribution of pore pressure around th. excavation. In th.s research.project initiated by th. CNSC, th. auth.rs conducted experimental and th.oretical research.in order to assess th. h.dro-mech.nical beh.vior of th. Cobourg limestone under undamaged and damaged conditions, both.in th. sh.rt and long terms. th. sh.rt-term beh.vior was investigated by a program of triaxial tests with.th. measurement of permeability evolution on specimens of Cobourg limestone. th. auth.rs formulate a coupled h.dro-mech.nical model to simulate th. stress-strain response and evolution of th. permeability during th.se triaxial tests. Using creep and relaxation data from a similar limestone, th. model was extended to include its long-term strength.degradation. th. model successfully simulated both.th. sh.rt-and long-term h.dro-me
