Clinical Trial of Measles and Rubella Combined Vaccine Produced by POLYVAC in Vietnam

A clinical trial of measles and rubella combined vaccine (MR: MRVAC) produced by POLYVAC was conducted in Vietnam in 2016. A total of 756 subjects were enrolled, and 504 were allocated to MRVAC and 252 to control MR vaccine groups. Paired sera were obtained in 733, and the number of subjects was 403 aged 1 - 2 years, 164 aged 2 - 18 years, and 166 aged 18 - 45 years. Antibodies against measles and rubella viruses were evaluated by EIA. Most subjects had been immunized with a single dose of Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) measles vaccine at 9 months of age. Only 41 of 403 subjects aged 1 - 2 years were negative for measles antibody before vaccination, and all became seroconverted. A serological response of more than a 2-fold increase against measles was noted in 214 (47%, 95% CI;42.4% - 51.6%) of 458 initially seropositive individuals immunized with MRVAC and 65 (28%, 95% CI;22.3% - 33.8%) of 234 in the control group, and geometric mean titer (GMT) after vaccination was 25.49-5.60 in MRVAC and 25.03-5.24 in control group. Seroconversion against rubella virus after immunization with MRVAC was noted in 267 (98.5%, 95% CI;97.1% - 100%) of 271 initially seronegative subjects, similar to that after immunization with control group. GMT after immunization with MRVAC was 24.88-5.11 significantly lower than that after immunization with control vaccine (25.59-5.80). Most subject ≥ 2 years of age had rubella antibody because of MR vaccination campaign and no significant serological response was observed in initially seronegatives. MRVAC was highly immunogenic and safe vaccine and the domestic production of MR vaccine would contribute to realizing the goal of eliminating measles and rubella.

Biomass accumulation of Panax vietnamensis in cell suspension cultures varies with addition of plant growth regulators and organic additives

Objective: To evaluate the impact of plant growth regulators including kinetin(KN),benzyl adenine and naphthalene acetic acid, yeast extract and casein hydrolyzate on biomass accumulation of Vietnamese ginseng Panax vietnamensis(P. vietnamensis) in cell suspension ***: Cell suspension cultures were established from friable calluses derived from leaves and petioles of 3-year-old in-vitro P. vietnamensis plants. The cell suspension cultures were grown in Murashige and Skoog basal media supplemented with various concentrations of KN, benzyl adenine, naphthalene acetic acid, and yeast extract and casein ***: All tested factors generated an increase in the cell biomass of P. vietnamensis in suspension culture, but the impact of each varies depended on the factor type, concentration, and incubation period. Addition of 2.0 mg/L KN resulted in the largest biomass increase after 24 d,(57.0 ± 0.9) and(3.1 ± 0.1) mg/m L fresh and dry weight, respectively,whereas addition of benzyl adenine or naphthalene acetic acid produced optimum levels of Panax cell biomass at 1.0 and 1.5 mg/L, respectively. Addition of the elicitor yeast extract led to a 1.4–2.4 fold increase in biomass of P. vietnamensis, while addition of casein hydrolyzate enhanced biomass accumulation 1.8–2.6 ***: The addition of each factor causes significant changes in biomass accumulation of P. vietnamensis. The largest biomass accumulation is from cultures grown in MS media containing 2.0 mg/L KN for 24 d. The outcome of the present study provides new insights into the optimal suspension culture conditions for studies on the in vitro cell biomass production of P. vietnamensis.

Enhancing compressive strength and durability of self-compacting concrete modified with controlled-burnt sugarcane bagasse ash-blended cements

In sugar industries,the growing amount of sugarcane bagasse ash(SBA),a byproduct released after burning bagasse for producing electricity,is currently causing environmental *** residual ash displays a pozzolanic potential;and hence,it has potential as a cement *** study focuses on enhancing suitability of SBA through incorporating ground blast furnace slag(BFS)in manufacturing self-compacting concretes(SCCs).For this purpose,SBA was processed by burning at 700°C for 1 h,before being ground to the cement fineness of 4010 cm2/*** mixtures were prepared by changing the proportions of SBA and BFS(i.e.,10%,20%,and 30%)in blended systems;and their performance was *** results showed that the presence of amorphous silica was detected for the processed SBA,revealing that the strength activity index was above 80%.The compressive strength of SCC containing SBA(without BFS)could reach 98%–127%of that of the control;combination of SBA and 30%BFS gets a similar strength to the control after 28 *** durability,the 10%SBA+30%BFS mix exhibited the lowest risk of ***,the joint use of SBA and BFS enhanced significantly the SCC’s sulfate ***,a hyperbolic formula for interpolating the compressive strength of the SBA-based SCC was proposed and validated with error range estimated within±10%.

Evaluation of Weathering Performance of Rosin-Copper Based Treated Wood

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of natural weathering on some surface characteristics and mechanical properties of Styrax wood treated with mixtures of 1.0%,2.0%,or 4.0%rosin sizing agent and 3%copper *** samples after treatment were exposed to outdoor conditions for one year and changes in color,glossiness,weight loss,compression strength parallel to grain(CSPG),modulus of rupture(MOR),and modulus of elasticity(MOE)were investigated after 6 and 12-month of natural *** results showed that rosin-copper treatment could improve color stability and gloss of samples after *** losses of all rosin-copper treated samples after 12 months of exposure were negligible compared with the untreated control *** addition,rosin-copper treatment enhanced the CSPG compared to untreated controls,but slightly decreased the MOR and MOE of Styrax wood before *** weathering factors induced a reduction for all strength properties,however,the decrease rate for strength properties of rosin-copper treated samples was negligible compared with the untreated control samples after 12-month natural weathering *** FTIR and SEM-EDX confirmed that the use of the rosin-copper formulations to impregnate wood could decrease the hazard of the copper preservative leaching into the environment,while also enhancing more resistance against weathering factors and other biotic factors.

In the present study,graphite/alumina composites are fabricated via reductive sintering of gel-casted green bodies with structurally controlled cross-linked epoxy polymers for the first *** cross-linking degrees of polymers are tuned by the amount ratio of epoxy monomer/polyvinyl alcohol cross-linker utilized in gel-casting *** electrical properties with respect to 5-fold enhanced electrical conductivity and 2-fold higher carrier mobility are successfully achieved in graphite/alumina composite fabricated from cross-linked epoxy polymer,whose phenomenon is attributed to the excellent conductive path in ceramic matrix established by highly uniform network with improved graphitization degree.

The corrosion behavior of extruded AZ61 magnesium alloy with different addition of yttrium ranging from 0 to 0.9 wt.%was *** electrochemical techniques in naturally-aerated 0.01 M NaCl solution and the surface analyses are *** electrochemical results show that the pitting potential,time to pitting initiation,film and charge transfer resistances of the AZ61 specimens increased with the increase of yttrium *** analyses indicate that yttrium promotes the formation of passive films and the refinement of the precipitates and matrix grains.

Thermal Performance Prediction in the Air Gap of a Rotor-Stator Configuration: Effects of Numerical Models

This study is dedicated to a numerical investigation of convective heat transfer on the rotor surfaces of a rotor-stator configuration that is typically found in large *** computational fluid dynamics calculations with two turbulence modelling approaches are used to predict the flow structure and heat transfer in the air gap of the rotor-stator *** steady state mixing plane approach is employed at the interface to couple the rotor and stator *** show that the location of mixing plane interface in the air gap plays an important role in the prediction of heat transfer on the pole ***,it is indicated that the prediction of temperature distribution on the pole face is greatly affected by the turbulence models ***,through a comparison between the pure convective and conjugate heat transfer methodologies,it is shown that the inclusion of solid domain into the numerical model significantly improves the thermal prediction of the solid components of the machine.

Development of an automatic and knowledge-infused framework for structural health monitoring based on prompt engineering

Collecting and analyzing vibration signals from structures under time-varying excitations is a non-destructive structural health monitoring approach that can provide meaningful information about the structures' safety without interrupting their normal operations. This paper develops a novel framework using prompt engineering for seamlessly integrating users' domain knowledge about vibration signals with the advanced inference ability of well-trained large language models (LLMs) to accurately identify the actual states of structures. The proposed framework involves formulating collected data into a standardized form, utilizing various prompts to gain useful insights into the dynamic characteristics of vibration signals, and implementing an in-house program with the help of LLMs to perform damage detection. The advantages, as well as limitations, of the proposed method are qualitatively and quantitatively assessed through two realistic case studies from literature, demonstrating that the present method is a new way to quickly construct practical and reliable structural health monitoring applications without requiring advanced programming/mathematical skills or obscure specialized programs.
