Determination of the Structural Lineaments in the Kribi-Campo-Ma’an Area from a Multi-Scale Analysis of Gravity Data Using the HGM and Euler 3D Deconvolution Approaches

With the aim to produce a detailed structural map and then enhance the geological information of the south-western Cameroon, a field gravity study is carried out in the Kribi-Campo-Ma’an area (SW Cameroon). This study area is assumed to undergo pending active tectonics as witnessed by several earthquakes [1]. Besides, the area has been affected by some shears that gave rise to many major faults including the Kribi-Campo Fault (KCF). This N-S lineament is an active fault corresponding to the NW margin of the CC [2] [3] and related to the development of the Kribi-Campo basin. The gravity data analysis enables to highlight many deeply-seated structural features trending in the NE, NNE, N-S, NNW, NW and E-W directions in this region. The NW-SE trend is more strongly developed than the other identified trends and could have deeply affected the major NNE structure. The NNE-SSW to N-S fractures and faults which are local relays of the Kribi-Campo fault are related to the Kribi shear zone. The fairly good clustering observed on local maxima of the horizontal gradient magnitude enables to suggest that the contacts outlined have vertical to subvertical dips. However, a probable interpretation of these features is that they are vertical to subvertical faults which follow the aforementioned directions. The location of the study area in the gulf of Guinea suggests that it sustains tectonics related both to the equatorial and the south Atlantic oceans opening.

Geophysical surveying is crucial in the investigation of mineral resources in poorly exposed areas such as SE-Cameroon, a region known for its gold mineral potential. In this paper, gravity survey is carried out in the Batouri area, SE-Cameroon based on land gravity data from the Centre-south Cameroon. Therefore, an analytical polynomial separation program, based on least-square fitting of a third-degree polynomial surface to the Bouguer anomaly map, was used to separate the regional/residual components in gravity data. This technique permitted to better understand the disposition of the deep and near surface structures responsible of the observed anomalies in the Batouri area. Spectral analysis and 2.5D modelling of two profiles P1 (SW-NE) and P2 (N-S) selected from the residual anomaly map provided depths to basement. These depths constrain the gravity models along the profiles, indicating a variable thickness of the sedimentary infill with an approximate anomaly of -33 mGal. The 2.5D model of the basement shows a gravity body, with a signature suggesting two close and similar masses, which characterize the quartz-bearing formations associated here to granite and gneiss. Our work highlights a main heavy gravity: Gwé-Batouri anomaly, containing the major part of auriferous deposits located along the NE-SW direction. Further, three tectonic sub-basins bounded by normal faults have been highlighted at Guedal, Gwé, and Bélimban, in the south of Guedal-Bélimban depression. Background: Maxillofacial trauma affects young adults more. The injury assessment is difficult to establish in low-income countries because of the imaging means, particularly the scanner, which is poorly available and less financially accessible. The aim of this study is to describe the epidemiological profile and the various tomodensitometric aspects of traumatic lesions of the face in patients received in the Radiology department of Kira Hospital. Patients and methods: This is a descriptive retrospective study involving 104 patients of all ages over a period of 2 years from December 2018 to November 2019 in the medical imaging department of KIRA HOSPITAL. We included in our study any patient having undergone a CT scan of the head and presenting at least one lesion of the facial mass, whether associated with other cranioencephalic lesions. Results: Among the 384 patients received for head trauma, 104 patients (27.1% of cases) presented facial damage. The average age of our patients was 32.02 years with extremes of 8 months and 79 years. In our study, 87 of the patients (83.6%) were male. The road accident was the circumstance in which facial trauma occurred in 79 patients (76% of cases). These injuries were accompanied by at least one bone fracture in 97 patients (93.3%). Patients with fractures of more than 3 facial bones accounted for 40.2% of cases and those with fractures of 2 to 3 bones accounted for 44.6% of cases. The midface was the site of the fracture in 85 patients (87.6% of cases). Orbital wall fractures were noted in 57 patients (58.8% of cases) and the jawbone was the site of a fracture in 50 patients (51.5% of cases). In the vault, the fractures involved the extra-facial frontal bone (36.1% of cases) and temporal bone (18.6% of cases). Cerebral contusion was noted in 41.2% of patients and pneumoencephaly in 15.5% of patients. Extradural hematoma was present in 16 patients and subdural hematoma affected 13 patients. Bithalamic Ischemic Stroke in Sickle Cell Patient at the Kamenge University Hospital in Burundi: Case Report

Aim: To describe the clinical and radiological diagnostic for a sickle cell patient who got a bithalamic vasculature accident. Observation: This was a 4-year-old female child admitted to the pediatric ward for convulsive seizures in a feverish context. The physical examination did not find signs of meningeal irritation. The effective workup including thick gout, lumbar puncture, complete blood count, and C reactive protein was normal. An electrocencephalogram was not performed due to lack of availability of the device. Based on clinical data and the fact that Burundi is an area of high malaria prevalence, antimalarial and anticonvulsant treatment has been started. An alteration of consciousness (the Glasgow score of 7) had motivated a CT scan. Bithalamic hypodensities in favor of a vascular accident have been demonstrated. Etiological investigation revealed homozygous sickle cell disease ss during hemoglobin electrophoresis. The final evolution has been characterized by a return to normal consciousness. Conclusion: The complexity of the clinical picture following occlusion of Percherons artery makes it difficult to diagnose. Sickle cell disease may favour the occurrence of ischaemic lesions. Cerebral imaging enables the diagnosis to be made with certainty and avoids delays in treatment.

Inferring the Subsurface Basement Depth and the Contact Locations from Aeromagnetic Data over Loum-Minta Area (Centre-East Cameroon)

The present study aims to estimate the basement depth and contact locations, deduced from the available aeromagnetic data. The total intensity aeromagnetic (TMI) map was first corrected by the application of the reduction to equator technique. Different edge detection processes, for example, tilt angle derivative (TDR) and its total horizontal derivative (HD_TDR) as well as 3D-Euler deconvolution can determine the edges of these sources. These techniques were carried out on the aeromagnetic data of Minta region (the study area). A correlation was noticed between these techniques indicating that both of them can be attributed in delineating the general structural framework of the area. The aeromagnetic data analysis enables to highlight many deeply-seated structural features trending in the E-W, ENE-WSW and NE-SW directions in this region. The E-W trend is more strongly developed than the other identified trends. Moreover that, two depth methods were applied: analytic signal (AS) and source parameter imaging (SPI). They reflected similar results for estimating the basement depths. From both of them the depth ranges from 150 to 2800 m. Five methods (TDR, HD_TDR, 3D-Euler deconvolution, AS and SPI) for locating magnetic sources indicated that the depth of the basement rocks ranged between 150 and 3000 m as the average range. Also, the comparative study among the 2D magnetic modeling was established by one profile constructing.

Covalent functionalization/polycarboxylation of tungsten disulfide inorganic nanotubes （INTs-WS2）

Inorganic nanotubes of tungsten disulfide （INTs-WS2） are insoluble in common solvents and practically inert, hindering their usefulness in both research and commercial applications. The covalent attachment of functional species onto the surface of INT-WS2 is a critical first step in realizing the potential that INT-WS2 offer for high-performance materials and products. Although a few attempts have been reported regarding preparing modified nanotubes, only a limited range of surface functionalities is possible with these methods. We have developed a versatile method, based on a modified, highly electrophilic acidic Vilsmeier- Haack reagent, to produce covalently bonded, polycarboxylated functional WS2 nanotubes that are dispersible in polar liquids, including water. The surface polycarboxylated shell provides a means for additional derivatization, enabling matching compatibility of derivatized nanotubes to both hydrophobic and hydrophilic materials. Nanocomposites incorporating derivatized INT-WS2 are expected to show improved properties as a result of enhanced interfacial compatibility, made possible by the large number of classes of functionalization available through the initial polycarboxylation step.

Estimation of Curie Point Depth (CPD) across the Pan African Belt in Northern Cameroon from Aeromagnetic Data

The depth to the Curie isothermal point (CPD) was estimated using aeromagnetic data from northern Cameroon. The CPD was estimated using a two-dimensional power density spectral analysis of nineteen 30 × 30 km blocks over a series of Neoproterozoic lithologies associated with the Pan African orogeny. The results show that there are two main regions characterized by the CPD analysis: 1) Shallow depths (~6.37 - 10.09 km) which are located in several regions including the northern portions of the study area (toward the regions of Hina Marbak, Gawel and northern Moutouroua), the southeast (Kaele region), the south (Guider) and the southwest (Mayo Oulo), and 2) deeper depths (~10.68 - 13.72 km) are located in the northeast (Mindif) and southwest (southern Moutouroua, Guider and Bossoum). The shallow depths can be related to two tectonic regimes: 1) the West-Central African Rift System with northeast-trending strike-slip faults emanating from the Gulf of Guinea and 2) the Cameroon Volcanic Line. However, the ultimate source of these shallow regions is interpreted to be related to the Cameroon Volcanic Line based on low seismic velocities imaged by recent broadband seismic studies which are concentrated along the northeast-trending strike-slip faults. An additional finding using the CPD depths, a Curie isothermal temperature of 580°C and a one-dimensional heat flow model, was heat-flow values ranging from 105.68 to 227.63 mW/m2, which are above average global heat flow values and are therefore indicative of potential geothermal resources.
