A review of feed efficiency in swine:biology and application

Feed efficiency represents the cumulative efficiency with which the pig utilizes dietary nutrients for maintenance, lean gain and lipid accretion. It is closely linked with energy metabolism, as the oxidation of carbon-containing components in the feed drive all metabolic processes. While much is known about nutrient utilization and tissue metabolism, blending these subjects into a discussion on feed efficiency has proven to be difficult. For example, while increasing dietary energy concentration will almost certainly increase feed efficiency, the correlation between dietary energy concentration and feed efficiency is surprisingly low. This is likely due to the plethora of non-dietary factors that impact feed efficiency, such as the environment and health as well as individual variation in maintenance requirements, body composition and body weight. Nonetheless, a deeper understanding of feed efficiency is critical at many levels. To individual farms, it impacts profitability. To the pork industry, it represents its competitive position against other protein sources. To food economists, it means less demand on global feed resources. There are environmental and other societal implications as well. Interestingly, feed efficiency is not always reported simply as a ratio of body weight gain to feed consumed. This review will explain why this arithmetic calculation, as simple as it initially seems, and as universally applied as it is in science and commerce, can often be misleading due to errors inherent in recording of both weight gain and feed intake. This review discusses the importance of feed efficiency, the manner in which it can be measured and reported, its basis in biology and approaches to its improvement. It concludes with a summary of findings and recommendations for future efforts.

emoTypeSC? test is a new cheap, faster, and appropriate screening method for neonatal diagnosis of sickle cell disease. The literature reports a few cases of its applicability. This study extends the cases study and reviews the available literature. The sample consisted of 99 subjects, including 87 newborns (36 girls and 51 boys;1.9 - 4.9 kg BW) sampled among 566 babies bone at six hospitals in Kisangani city (Democratic Republic of Congo) during March-April 2019;height infant-adolescents (18 years);and four adults. Duplicate blood samples of 75 newborns, spotted on filter paper, were transferred to Liège in Belgium for LC-MS test confirmation. Of 99 subjects, 74.74% tested HbAA, 24.26% HbAS and 1% HbSS. The prevalence of HbAS compared to the HbAA phenotype was 15/60 (20%) by HemoTypeSC? and 14/61 (18.7%) by LC-MS. The concordance between the two methods was 98.3% or a discordance of 1.7%. The findings support the validity of the HemoTypeSC? test as a sensitive, specific point of care test, cheap and reliable for poor African populations.

研究在医用Ti6Al4V合金上采用阴极电弧蒸发沉积制备的纳米晶TiAlN涂层的表面特性和体外腐蚀性能。采用XRD和FE-SEM对其结构和表面形貌进行分析,采用显微压痕法表征其表面的显微硬度,在模拟体液和人工唾液中进行体外腐蚀实验。结果表明:与无涂层合金相比,沉积TiAlN涂层后合金的表面硬度提高,为44.4 GPa,弹性模量为419.9 GPa,塑性变形能力增强,润湿角由(70.61±1.25)°增大到(86.27±2.2)°。生物腐蚀实验表明,沉积TiAlN涂层后,Ti6Al4V合金的腐蚀电位显著正移约150 m V,腐蚀电流密度显著降低约一个数量级,电荷转移电阻提高,证明合金的耐腐蚀性提高。与无涂层的合金相比,沉积TiAlN涂层后合金的表面性能、力学性能和耐腐蚀性能均有所提高。

Emerging technologies such as electric vehicles,solid-state transformers,and DC transformers are implemented using the closed-loop bi-directional dual-active-bridge(DAB)*** this context,it is necessary to have average models that provide an efficient way of tuning the proportional integral(PI)compensator parameters for large-and small-signal *** present a novel small-signal model(SSM)for DAB converter with a single closed-loop PI controller and the total elimination of reactive current(IQ=0).The method applies a modulation technique for IQ=0 and introduces a composite function in the controller while reducing the original nonlinear switching model,which allows to decrease the order of the transfer function and analyze the closed-loop *** proposed SSM is analyzed using different response time,load,and DC voltage *** simulation and experimental results demonstrate the ease of implementation and effectiveness of the proposed model with respect to other SSM techniques.

Objective:To evaluate,in hyperglycemic tilapia[Oreochromis niloticus(***)].the effect of this aqueous extract on blood glucose ***:The hyperglycemia in *** was induced by adding glucose to fish pond *** aqueous extract of Ocimum tenuiflorum (***) was prepared by boiling fresh leaves and the doses of 0,40,80,200 and 400 mg per liter of pond water were ***:The blood sugar concentration for tilapia with hyperglycemic induced was an average of 50%higher than the control *** blood glucose levels in tilapia after the induction of hyperglycemia were higher than the control group for 90 min after the *** treatment with the aqueous extract of *** dropped the serum glucose level of hyperglycemic tilapia until it was similar to that of the control group and was dose ***:The results indicated that *** was endowed with anti-hyperglycemic *** our knowledge,this is the first report on the use of fish as a diabetes model to test natural extracts from plants.
