Psychological interventions for adherence, metabolic control, and coping with stress in adolescents with type 1 diabetes:a systematic review

Background The aim of this review was to summarize and identify the variations in the effectiveness of psychological interventions on adherence,metabolic control,and coping with stress in adolescents with type 1 diabetes(T1D).methods An electronic search of literature was performed using Pubmed(NLm),Embase(Ovid),CINAHL Plus(EBSCO-host),PsycINFO(Ovid),and Google *** search was limited to include articles reported the effect of one of the psychological interventions:cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT),coping skills training(CST),stress management,or psychotherapy *** report included peer-reviewed articles published in English from January 1990 until may 2019in adolescents with T1D,and summarizes the results of 24 studies that met the inclusion *** Psychological interventions showed differential effects on adherence,metabolic control,and coping with stress in adolescents with *** interventions using principles of CBT appear to have a superior positive effect on regimen adherence compared with other types of psychological *** contrast,metabolic control was significantly improved with the implementation of CST and some forms of *** management and psychotherapy interventions showed significant promises for adolescents to cope with their diabetes-related daily *** However,the findings may add some promises to diabetes management in adolescents,additional research to understand the effect of these interventions is needed.

Fuzziness or uncertainties arise due to insufficient knowledge,experimental errors,operating conditions and parameters that provide inaccurate *** concepts of susceptible,infectious and recovered are uncertain due to the different degrees in susceptibility,infectivity and recovery among the individuals of the *** differences can arise,when the population groups under the consideration having distinct habits,customs and different age groups have different degrees of resistance,*** realistic models are needed which consider these different degrees of susceptibility infectivity and recovery of the *** this paper,a Susceptible,Infected and Recovered(SIR)epidemic model with fuzzy parameters is *** infection,recovery and death rates due to the disease are considered as fuzzy *** basic reproduction number and fuzzy equilibrium points have been derived for the studied *** is then solved numerically with three different techniques,forward Euler,Runge-Kutta fourth order method(RK-4)and the nonstandard finite difference(NSFD)methods *** NSFD technique becomes more efficient and reliable among the others and preserves all the essential features of a continuous dynamical system.

Optimized Operation of a Solar-Driven Thermoelectric Dehumidification System for Fresh Water Production

The work presents a parametric analysis of the performance of a solar-driven thermoelectric system to dehumidify air and produce fresh water. The system is combined with a solar distiller humidifying ambient air to enhance distillate output to meet the specified fresh water needs for a residential application. The presented system is a totally renewable energy-based system taking advantage of the clean solar energy. A model is developed to simulate the air dehumidification process using TEC （thermoelectrically cooled） channels. An optimization problem for setting system operational parameters is formulated to meet the fresh water requirement of 10 liters per day for a typical residential application in the Lebanese coastal humid climate. Using five TEC channels of length of 1.2 m and area of 0.07 - 0.05 m^2 integrated with 1.2 m^2 solar distiller is capable of meeting the water demand, where the air mass flow rate introduced to each TEC channel is optimally set at 0.0155 kg/s. The optimal electrical current input to the TEC modules from the photovoltaic solar panels varied depending on the month and is set at 2.2 A in June, 2.1 A in July and 2.0 A in August, September and October per each TEC module.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome among medical and Non-medical Northern Border University Students, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Across Sectional Study

Background: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common functional gastrointestinal disorder (FGID), characterized by abdominal pain or discomfort and alteration in bowel habits. Aim of the study: To determine the overall prevalence, prevalence of each type and risk factors of IBS among Northern Border University (NBU) students, Arar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. material and methods: We use cross sectional, descriptive study with multistage cluster probability sample. Using Rome III criteria questionnaire of IBS;which is a self-administrated consists of ten questions assessing the current status of an apparently normal person. The questionnaire is administrated to Northern Border University students. Results: A total of 228 University students of them, 94 (41.2%) males and 134 (58.8%) females were included in the study. The overall prevalence of IBS according to Rome III criteria in northern border University was (32.5%). The disease prevalence was 33.6% in females and 30.9% in males. Among the study participants, the most common type of IBS was the mixed one 12.7%, followed by the constipation predominant type 10.5%, then the diarrhea pre-dominant type 5.7% while the least common was unsubtyped cases (3.5%). Statistically significant increase in prevalence of this disease was found among female students (60.8% vs. 39.2% in males) (p-value alue alue alence rate of 32.5% for IBS among the students studying in Northern Border University. Stress and high body mass index were significantly associated with IBS. In addition, this study concluded that IBS was not significantly associated with socio-demographic characteristics and smoking.
