Phytochemical and biological activities of Crataegus sinaica growing in Egypt

Objective:To evaluate the cardiac activity and hepatoprotection of Crataegus sinaica (***).Methods:All the isolated compounds were isolated by open-column liquid chromatography(CC) using sephadex LH-20 as stationary *** of the column was performed with EtOH or *** phytochemical investigation of the young stem of *** for the first time together with the leaves and flowers lead to the isolation and identification of quercetin,hyperoside,vitexin-2"-0-rhamnoside,epicatechin,procyanidin B2 and procyanidins ***:Rats treated with the low and high dose of *** leaves with flowers extract showed 15%and 17%reduction in the heart rate,and reduction in the STsegment by 107%and 57%;*** T-amplitude was decreased by 59%of the high dose *** the other hand,the young steins and leaves with flowers extracts of *** on primary culture of rat hepatocytes monolayer indicated a hepatoprotection for the total extract,ethyl acetate,butanol,and chlor of orm fractions at 100μg/mL,75μg/mL,50μg/mL,and 25μg/mL; ***:The results of these chemical and biological studies suggest the use of *** growing in Egypt as a preventive drug against cardiovascular and hepatic diseases. The chemical studies suggest the use of woody young stems as a newly investigated bioactive *** extraction of unsaturated fatty acids from the seeds of the plant would serve as a good health and nutritive product.

Technologies for utilizing waste heat for power generation have attracted significant attention in recent years due to their potential to enhance energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas *** research focuses on the comparative and optimization analysis of three supercritical carbon dioxide(sCO_(2))Rankine cycles(simple,cascade,and split)for gas turbine waste heat *** study begins with parametric analysis,investigating the significant effects of key variables,including turbine inlet temperature,condenser inlet temperature,and pinch point temperature,on the thermal performance of advanced sCO_(2) power *** identify the most efficient cycle configuration,a multi-objective optimization approach is *** approach combines a Genetic Algorithm with machine learning regression models(Random Forest,XGBoost,Artificial Neural Network,Ridge Regression,and K-Nearest Neighbors)to predict cycle performance using a dataset extracted from cycle *** decision-making process for determining the optimal cycle configuration is facilitated by the TOPSIS(technique for order of preference by similarity to the ideal solution)*** study's major findings reveal that the split cycle outperforms the simple and cascade configurations in terms of power generation across various operating *** optimized split cycle not only demonstrates superior power output but also exhibits enhanced net power output,heat recovery,system and exergy efficiency of 7.99 MW,76.17%,26.86%and 57.96%,respectively,making it a promising choice for waste heat recovery *** research has the potential to contribute to the advancement and widespread adoption of waste heat recovery in energy technologies boosting system efficiency and economic *** provides a new perspective for future research,contributing to the improvement of energy generation infrastructure.

Prevalence of Mastitis and Associated Risk Factors in Lactating Camels (Camelus Dromedarius) on Dairy Farms in Benadir Region, Somalia

The study took a comprehensive approach to understanding mastitis in lactating camels, a disease that significantly impacts milk quantity and quality. This complex and multifactorial disease poses a significant challenge to dairy camel farming, particularly in Somalia. The studys objective was to determine the prevalence of mastitis and the risk factors associated with it among lactating camels on dairy farms in Benadir, Somalia. To achieve this, a cross-sectional study was conducted from May to September 2022 in the Benadir region of Somalia. A total of 96 lactating camels underwent examination using the California Mastitis Test (CMT) to identify clinical and subclinical mastitis cases. Additionally, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 20 farm employees/owners to gather information on hygiene practices, parity, lactation stage, tick infestation, and the presence of udder/teat lesions. Data regarding parity and lactation stage were obtained through owner interviews. The data collected on specifically designed forms were recorded and entered into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for analysis using SPSS version 20 statistical software, ensuring a comprehensive and reliable analysis of the data. The studys findings revealed a significant prevalence of camel mastitis, with 34.4% (33/96) of lactating camels affected and clinical and subclinical cases constituting 5.2% and 29.2%, respectively. Quarter-level prevalence was 46.3%, with clinical and subclinical mastitis at 4.7% and 41.6%, respectively. The study also identified significant associations (P < 0.05) among risk factors such as stage of lactation, parity, and age, indicating a higher susceptibility to mastitis in older camels during early lactation compared to those in late lactation and younger camels. These findings underscore the crucial role of inadequate hygienic conditions on camel farms and udder tick infestations in driving the elevated prevalence of mastitis, highlighting the need for improved manage

Numerical Investigation of a modified Kalina cycle system for high-temperature application and genetic algorithm based optimization of the multi-phase expander’s inlet condition

As an alternative to the conventional steam Rankine Cycle,Kalina Cycle has witnessed a growing interest over the past years for high-temperature applications(A working fluid temperature of 500◦C at the turbine inlet).However,the possibility of implementing an additional multi-phase expander on the weak ammonia-water solution loop of the Kalina cycle was hardly analyzed in the available *** this research,two novel Kalina cycles(Kalina cycle-12A and Kalina cycle-12B)have been presented by integrating a multi-phase expander in addition to the turbine installed downstream of the Kalina *** Kalina cycle-12A,this additional multi-phase expander is positioned downstream of the Kalina separator and on the weak ammonia-water solution loop for Kalina Cycle-12B.A detailed mathematical model based on the thermodynamic laws has been developed to solve and optimize the Kalina *** influence of critical decision parameters,specifically the ammonia concentration on working fluid and evaporation pressure,were *** optimization was performed based on the objective to maximize the net power output from the multi-phase expander under steady-state operating *** the performance of the proposed Kalina cycles was compared with the conventional Kalina Cycle-12,both of them demonstrated superior performance,i.e.,net power output and peak thermal efficiency increased by a maximum value of 3.23%for the proposed Kalina Cycle-12A cycle and 3.94%for the proposed Kalina Cycle-12B *** terms of second law efficiency,Kalina Cycle-12A is 3.68 percent more efficient than Kalina Cycle-12,while Kalina Cycle-12B is 4.04 percent more ***,2nd law analysis also reveals,maximum destruction of exergy occurs at the condensers of the cycles.

Seismic Attenuation and Velocity Dispersion to Discriminate Gas Hydrates and Free Gas Zone, Makran Offshore, Pakistan

Gas hydrates gained a remarkable attention as an unconventional energy resource recently. In order to interpret gas hydrates (part of fluid) and free gas saturated zone accurately, it is essential to implement new technique related to seismic attenuation and velocity dispersion. P wave attenuation and velocity dispersion in porous media made promising imprints for exploration of gas hydrates. The most prominent phenomenon for attenuation and velocity dispersion in porous media is wave induced fluid flow in which wave inhomogeneities are larger than pore size but smaller than wavelength. Numerical simulation technique is applied to analyze frequency dependent velocity dispersion and attenuation in gas hydrates and free gas layer in Makran offshore of Pakistan. Homogeneous and patchy distribution patterns of gas hydrates and free gas within pore spaces of host sediments at lower and higher frequency regime are considered. It is noted that the attenuation and velocity dispersion increase with the increase in gas hydrates saturation. The maximum attenuation is observed at 66% saturation of gas hydrates in the area under investigation. However, in case of water and gas mixture the maximum attenuation and velocity dispersion occur at low gas saturation (~15%). Therefore, based on our numerical simulation, velocity dispersion and attenuation can be used as seismic attributes to differentiate various gas saturations and gas hydrates saturation for Makran offshore area of Pakistan.

Background: COVID-19 Pandemic is still circulating within the human population and proving to be a deadlier disease with a mortality rate ranging from 0.5% to 7%. Since COVID-19 is a highly transmissible disease;there is always a probability for its outward spread towards the general public and community from the hospitals and healthcare facilities where they come to seek treatment. Methodology: A prospective cohort study design was used, considering the limited available resources and time—a total of 200 healthcare workers (including doctors, nurses, para-medical staff, janitorial staff, reception staff & pharmacists) working in the OPDs of the two major public sector hospitals of Quetta were made part of this study. The study participants were selected using a simple random sampling technique and selection was made from the daily attendance register. The study participants from “Hospital-A” were first of all educated and trained on various COVID-19 IPC measures later on various COVID-19-IEC materials;written in simple Urdu language, were displayed clearly everywhere in the OPD. Similarly, handwashing stations along with hand sanitizers/soaps and surgical face masks were also made available free of cost for all the study participants of Hospital-A. Moreover the importance and effectiveness of COVID-19 IPC measures were continuously announced in the OPD gallery of Hospital-A, these announcements used simple wording in local languages (i.e., Urdu, Pashto, Balochi and Brahvi). On the other hand, in the OPD of “Hospital-B”, no such interventions were made. The study participants of both the hospitals were followed for one month and observations like which group showed more on-job noncompliance towards various COVID-19 IPC measures were recorded. An Investigation into Infection Prevention and Control Practices among Close Contacts of COVID-19 Positive Cases Identified during Trace Test and Quarantine Activities at District Quetta (Unmatched Case-Control Study)

The second wave of COVID-19 pandemic has started globally, right now 220 countries are infected and a total of 71,351,695 confirmed cases and 1,612,372 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported. Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures for COVID-19 all have proved vital in decreasing the transmission rates among the communities. Methodology: Unmatched Case-Control Study was conducted where cases were defined as “every PCR positive contact (symptomatic or asymptomatic) for any index case” similarly controls were defined as “every PCR negative contact (symptomatic or asymptomatic) for any index case who was home quarantined for 14 days based on suspicion by PDSRU team”. A simple random technique was used and 300 individuals were made part of this study. Results: The major findings of this study shows that PCR positive contacts poorly adopted certain COVID-19 IPC measures of interest in their daily life hence got infected. The odds for all the variables of interest were found to be statistically significant among cases as compared to controls like the odds for knowingly and intentionally contacted with a COVID-19 positive case was 13.7 times more among the PCR positive contacts as compare to PCR negative contacts (p = 0.00, C.I = 7.62 - 24.90), similarly, the odds of being a family member of the index COVID-19 case was 7.07 times more among the PCR positive contacts as compared to the PCR negative contacts (p = 0.00, C.I = 3.25 - 15.86). Conclusion: Before the development and availability of a vaccine, the only tools that can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 are IPC measures.

印度河扇更新世发育的沉积物波结构复杂、形态多样,其形成过程的认识程度低。本次研究通过高分辨率地震数据和地震解释技术,研究了印度河扇沉积物波的波长、形态、波峰变化等形态特征;阐述了沉积物波与沉积物变形特征的差异、识别了两者的区分标志;总结了水道堤岸斜坡和区域斜坡上沉积物波的分布规律;在此基础上,讨论了沉积物波的形成机理和控制因素,分析了沉积物波的形成过程,并建立了印度河扇沉积物波的形成模式。研究表明:(1)研究区沉积物波波长平均为486.84 m,最大1473 m;波高在10~60 m之间,平均30 m。(2)沉积物波的形态有对称型和非对称型,其迁移方式有上坡迁移型、加积型和下坡迁移型;沉积物波主要发育在水道堤岸的斜坡上,在区域斜坡上也发育少量的沉积物波,这2种沉积物波波脊的走向差异很大,水道堤岸斜坡上的沉积物波主要分布于水道凹岸堤岸的外侧,距离水道越远其规模(波长、波高)越小,波脊走向近于NE-SW方向,与水道的走向平行或斜交;区域斜坡上的沉积物波波脊的走向多为NW-SE向,平行于区域斜坡的走向,离源区越远规模越大。(3)水道堤岸斜坡上的沉积物波是由水道型浊流在离心力的作用下,溢出水道的凹岸,在堤岸外侧的斜坡上沉积形成的,堤岸斜坡的角度对沉积物波的发育规模影响不大,浊流的强度和输沙量对其规模影响大;区域斜坡上发育的沉积物波是由顺坡而下的非水道化的浊流沉积形成;滑塌变形造成的起伏地貌以及早期沉积物波的存在,也都影响了后期沉积物波的发育。
