Aberrant CXCR4/CXCL12 signaling is involved in many pathophysiological processes such as cancer and inflammatory diseases.A natural fragment of serum albumin,named EPI-X4,has previously been identified as endogenous peptide antagonist and inverse agonist of CXCR4 and is a promising compound for the development of improved analogues for the therapy of CXCR4-associated *** generate optimized EPI-X4 derivatives we here performed molecular docking analysis to identify key interaction motifs of EPI-X4/*** rational drug design allowed to increase the anti-CXCR4 activity of *** EPI-X4 derivative JM#21 bound CXCR4 and suppressed CXCR4-tropic HIV-1 infection more efficiently than the clinically approved small molecule CXCR4 antagonist ***-X4 JM#21 did not exert toxic effects in zebrafish embryos and suppressed allergen-induced infiltration of eosinophils and other immune cells into the airways of animals in an asthma mouse ***,topical administration of the optimized EPI-X4 derivative efficiently prevented inflammation of the skin in a mouse model of atopic ***,rationally designed EPIX4 JM#21 is a novel potent antagonist of CXCR4 and the first CXCR4 inhibitor with therapeutic efficacy in atopic *** clinical development of this new class of CXCR4 antagonists for the therapy of atopic dermatitis,asthma and other CXCR4-associated diseases is highly warranted.

Semiotics is used in the sphere of visual arts as a tool that helps reading the message included in a certain *** architecture,as an outcome of the rich cultural context of medieval tradition,where metaphysics,numbers and geometry were indispensable tools to symbolically manifest cosmological and theological concepts,is suggested as a good example for testing this approach in the field of *** this paper,a semiotic reading for one of the most distinguished works of this era;i.e.,the cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris,is introduced as a model for this *** many message included in the building,such as the functional or the technical messages,this is a trial to introduce a reading,i.e.,an interpretation,of what could be called rta hidden spiritual messase,The paper comes to a conclusion that the Gothic cathedral,as represented in Notre Dame de Paris,might be perceived as an extemalization of a standing hymn that was meant to send continuous appeals of protection to Heaven.

Visual lansuase in Mamluk architecture： A semiotic analysis of the Funerary Complex of Sultan Qaitbay in Cairo

Cultural background plays a significant role in the sphere of visual art. Semiotics as a discipUne is recognized as a useful tool in gauging cultural background and identifying signs that might represent the message of a certain work. Given the rich cultural context of Mamluk architecture, this form of art can be used in studying semiotics. Semiotic tools were employed to interpret the expression of architectura（ forms and to formulate a subsequent understanding of these architectura（ forms by turning each element into a communication tool that elucidates meaning. The Sufle tradition was the dominant Islamic practice during the Mamluk period, during which metaphysics, numbers, and geometry were regarded as indispensab（e tools in manifesting the nature of divinity and the order of being. A semiotic reading of the Funerary Complex of Sultan Qaitbay in Cairo, regarded as one of the perfect works of this era, was proposed to study the reflections of these notions on architectural works. Several messages were embodied in the building, such as functional or technical messages. The semiotic reading in this study is solely concerned with the spiritual message of the building.

On the Estimation of the Functional Size of Software from Requirements Specifications

This paper introduces a measurement procedure, called RmFFP, which describes a set of operations for modelling and estimating the size of object-oriented software systems from high-level specifications using the OO-Method Requirement Model. OO-Method is an automatic software production method. The contribution of this work is to systematically define a set of rules that allows estimating the functional size at an early stage of the software production process, in accordance with COSMIC-FFP. To do this, we describe the design, the application, and the analysis of the proposed measurement procedure following the steps of a process model for software measurement. We also report initial results on the evaluation of RmFFP in terms of its reproducibility.

Integrins are allosteric cell adhesion receptors that cycle from a low to a high affinity ligand binding state,a complex process of receptor activation that is of particular importance in blood cells such as platelets or *** we highlight recent progress in the understanding of the molecular pathways that regulate integrin activation in platelets and leukocytes,with a special focus on the structural changes in platelet integrinαIIbβ3 brought about by key intracellular proteins,namely talin and kindlins,that are of crucial importance in the regulation of integrin *** that the small GTPase Rap1 and its guanine exchange factor CalDAG-GEF1,together with RIAM,a Rap1GTP adaptor protein,promote the interaction of talin with the integrinβsubunit,has greatly contributed to fill the gap in our understanding of the signaling pathway from G-coupled agonist receptors and their phospholipase C-dependant second messengers,to integrin *** of patients with the rare blood cell disorder LAD-III have contributed to the identification of kindlins as new co-regulators of the talin-dependent integrin activation process in platelets and leukocytes,underlining the relevance for the in-depth investigation of patients with rare genetic blood cell disorders.

BACKGROUND Multi-phase computed tomography(CT)or magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)has been the standard of care for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)diagnosis for *** SUMMARY We report a case series of four patients in whom positron emission tomographycomputed tomography(PET-CT)scan complemented the conventional CT/MRI scans in evaluating treatment *** these four cases the conventional multi-phase CT and MRI failed to identify residual HCC disease post-treatment,while PET-CT complemented and aided in treatment response *** each case,the addition of PET-CT identified and located residual HCC disease,allowed retreatment,and altered medical *** This case series suggests that PET-CT should perhaps play a role in the HCC management algorithm,in addition to the conventional contrast-enhanced multiphase scans.

The forecast of fire impact on Pinus sylvestris renewal in southwestern Siberia

Simulation of fire impact on forest floor renewal in pine forests was based on predictions for 2100 by the Canadian Climate Centre for increase in temperatures of by4.5℃and total precipitation by 14%in the West Siberian pre-forest-steppes and empirical regression relationships between them and the degree of burnt forest floor,as well as amount of Pinus sylvestris *** was predicted that by 2100,pine regeneration on fire prone sites under the canopy of the dominant forest type will increase by 29-54%compared to the 1980 s but on adjacent open sites,regeneration will decrease twice as *** means that the regeneration potential and pine population stability in pre-forest-steppes will become as poor as it is today.

Nanosized colloidal platinum was prepared by reduction of H2PtCl6 in methanol-water mixture by refluxing. The particle size and morphology were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction. The influence of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) molecular mass (MM),PVP concentration,and reduction time on platinum particle size was investigated. Small (1-2 nm) Pt particles are formed in the case of PVP with MM=1.2×104. With increasing polymer MM and decreasing polymer concentration,large aggregates from small particles appear. High catalytic activity of the obtained colloidal platinum in hydrogenation of acetylene compounds is shown. The effect of Pt particle size on the catalytic activity was studied.

Synergy of sodium doping and nitrogen defects in carbon nitride for promoted photocatalytic synthesis of hydrogen peroxide

Photocatalytic synthesis of hydrogen peroxide has gradually become a promising method for in-situ pro-duction of hydrogen peroxide,which relies on sustainable solar ***,the commonly used photocatalyst,i.e.,carbon nitride(CN),still suffers from the drawbacks of narrow light absorption range and fast charge ***,we report a facile method to introduce nitrogen defects into carbon nitride together with sodium *** adjusting the ratio of sodium dicyandiamide,the band gap of carbon nitride can be controlled,while the carrier separation and transfer ability of carbon nitride is *** modified CN with sodium doping and nitrogen defect(SD-CN)demonstrates outstanding H_(2)O_(2)pro-duction performance(H_(2)O_(2)yield rate of 297.2μmol L^(−1)h^(−1))under visible light irradiation,which is approximately 9.8 times higher than that of pristine *** work deepens the understanding of the coordinated effect of structural defect and element doping of carbon nitride on the photocatalytic H_(2)O_(2)production performance,and provides new insight into the design of photocatalytic system for efficient production of H_(2)O_(2).

Profile of retinal diseases in adult patients attending two major eye clinics in Kinshasa,the Democratic Republic of Congo

AIM:To determine the frequency and types of retinal diseases and the extend of the related visual loss in adult patients attending two public eye clinics of Kinshasa,Democratic Republic of ***:Review of medical records of patients with retinal diseases seen in the major eye clinics in Kinshasa,the University Hospital of Kinshasa(UHK)and Saint Joseph Hospital(SJH),from January 2012 to December *** and diagnoses were retrieved and *** measures were frequency and prevalence of retinal diseases,blindness and low ***:A total of 40965 patients aged 40 y or older were examined during this period in both *** these,1208 had retinal disease,giving a 3-year and an annual prevalence of 3%and 1%,*** age was 61.7±10.7 y,and 55.8%of the patients were *** hypertension(68.1%)and diabetes(43.3%)were the most common systemic *** retinopathy(41.8%),diabetic retinopathy(37.9%),age-related macular degeneration(AMD;14.6%),and chorioretinitis and retinal vein occlusion(7.3%each)were the most common retinal diseases,with 3-year prevalence rates of 1.3%,1.0%,0.43%,and 0.21%*** low vision and blindness were present in 26.8%and 8.4%of the patients at *** causes of low vision and blindness were diabetic retinopathy(14.8%),AMD(4.9%),retinal detachment(2.8%),and retinal vein occlusion(2.5%).The prevalence was significantly higher among males than females,and at the UHK than ***:Retinal diseases are common among Congolese adult patients attending eye clinics in *** cause a significant proportion of low vision and blindness.
