Midwives’ utilization of nonpharmacological pain relief measures for labor pain management: A descriptive cross-sectional study

Objectives:This study sought to examine midwives’utilization of nonpharmacological pain relief measures in labor pain management and to test the relationship between midwives’knowledge and utilization of nonpharmacological pain relief measures for labor pain management in secondary health facility in Calabar,Cross River State,*** and Methods:A descriptive cross-sectional design was used for the *** study was rooted in Katherine Kolcaba’s Comfort ***,67 participants were recruited for the study using the purposive sampling technique.A self-made structured questionnaire was used to obtain participants’information on knowledge,utilization,and predictors of nonpharmacological pain relief ***:Although 41(61.2%)of the participants had knowledge about nonpharmacological pain relief measures,few did not know some of the cognitive-behavioral and environmental measures in labor pain *** was 35.8%(24/67)for utilization of cognitive-behavioral measures and 55.2%(37/67)for psychological/emotional measures for labor pain management by respondents,***(74.6%)of respondents agreed that predictors such as lack of knowledge,lack of updates and training,work experience,best practice guidelines,and equipment were hindrances to *** was statistically significance in relationship between the level of knowledge and utilization of nonpharmacological pain relief measures(r=0.6,P<0.05).Conclusion:The utilization of nonpharmacological measures for labor pain management is low,thus it is recommended that frequent education,training updates on effective labor pain management,provision of clinical guidelines on labor pain management,and enrichment of midwifery training curriculum are imperative to ensure quality labor pain management and positive health outcome.

Objective:This study aimed to examine the referral and counter-referral practices in obstetric emergencies among health-care providers in selected health facilities in Plateau state of *** and Methods:A concurrent embedded descriptive mixed method consisting of both quantitative and qualitative methods was adopted for the ***(104)were recruited using multistage sampling and 8 participants using purposive sampling techniques for quantitative and qualitative aspects of the study,*** three-phase delay model directed the study.A self-developed structured questionnaire and an in-depth interview guide were used to elicit quantitative and qualitative responses from the *** instrument was tested for reliability,while the qualitative instrument went through the rigors of qualitative ***:Findings revealed low level of referral and counter-referral practices as only 19(18.27%)and 30(28.85%),respectively,of care providers referred patients above 10 times in a *** study also revealed inadequate human and material resources for referrals and *** mean on barriers to referral was 2.90,which was above the cutoff of mean of 2.50,which indicates that the barriers are militating against referral and counter-referral in obstetric ***:Low levels of referral and counter-referral practices are identified with inadequate resources among others posing as ***,provision of standard operational procedures/protocols in every health-care facility as well as provision of adequate material and skilled human resources among others is recommended to enhance referral and counter-referral network in obstetric *** is also a need for teamwork and synergy among all stakeholders in the referral chain.

The global project will focus on an eventual establishment of a holistic understanding of cellular communication, and proposing an ontological approach that expresses the domain’s concepts, classes, and properties in a formal and unambiguous way. However, this ongoing step is about making heterogeneous network technologies explicit and highlighting their commonalities and variabilities. It begins by studying three different cellular technologies, one from each generation (2G, 3G and 4G). After the analysis of Lte-advanced—a fourth generation technology—subject of the first paper [1], Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) cellular network—a third generation technology—is the target of this current analysis. The final objective sought is to build Ontology capable of providing a common view of cellular network technologies.

Vanadium oxide hydrate V3O7..H2O (H2V3O8) nanobelts have been synthesized by hydrothermal approach using V2O5 as vanadium source and phenolphthalein as structure-directing agent. Techniques X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), infrared spectroscopy and nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms have been used to characterize the structure, morphology and composition of the nanobelts. The V3O7. H2O nanobelts are up to several hundreds of nanometers, the widths and thicknesses are 90 and 40 nm, respectively. The electroactivity of the nanobelts has been investigated. The as-synthesized material is promising for chemical and energy-related applications such as catalysts, electrochemical device and it may be applied in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

This paper deals with the design of high power – low dimensions axial-flux permanent-magnet motor intended for trac-tion application. First, two motor configurations are analytically designed and compared using finite element calcula-tion. Then, the configuration yielding the best performances is integrated and modelled with the whole traction chain under MATLAB/SIMULINK environment in order to demonstrate the motor operation on a large speed band.

This paper presents a PFCVF (Power Factor Correction) rectifier that uses a variable frequency source for alternators for electric and hybrid vehicles application. In such application, the frequency of the signal in the alternator changes according to the vehicle speed, more over the loading effect on the alternator introduces harmonic currents and increases the alternator apparent power requirements. To overcome these problems and aiming more stability and better design of the alternator, a new third harmonic injection technique is proposed. This technique allows to preserve a good THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) of the input source at any frequency and to decrease losses in semiconductors switches, thereby allowing more stability and reducing the apparent power requirements. A comparative study between the standard and the new technique is made and highlights the effectiveness of the new design. A detailed analysis of the proposed topology is presented and simulations as well as experimental results are shown.

This paper presents a new methodology for direct torque control (DTC) with improvement method control for induction motor (IM) systems. The application of approached method DTC (AMDTC), allows by using two hysteresis controllers to regulate torque and flux with the information of the angular location to address the switching table. The principal advantage of this AMDTC (optimization method of DTC) enables the minimization of the electromagnetic torque ripple and the reduction of the output current total harmonic distortion (THDI). Furthermore, it improved consumption quality of IM and it improved the lifespan of the motor. The threat to wildlife population is attributed to various anthropogenic activities. The main objective of this study was to identify the influence of fragment size on the population density of rodents in the study area. Fourteen (14) out of forty (40) fragments existing in the area were randomly sampled. The parameters used for the study were number, size of fragments and the corresponding population distribution of rodents in the study area. Fifty hunters in the area were also interviewed. The fragments were stratified into first, second and third order fragments on the basis of their sizes and randomly selected for the study. Indirect method of wildlife census was carried out through the observation of droppings, trail or tract, burrows, eating habits and noise. Fragment growth rate was 18 to 40 (87.5%) in 7 years. Anthropogenic perturbations in the form of cultivation of permanent cropland, settlement expansion, bush burning, timber exploitation and new settlements in areas previously thinly settled or not accessible to outsiders have resulted in disjointed ecosystems. The population density of rodents correlated with fragment size was highly significant ((P < 0.05) r = 0.9). It was then concluded that fragment size greatly influenced the population and diversity of rodent species. It was recommended that the remaining large fragments in the study area should be protected by law from further fragmentation.
