First described in 1996,the drug reaction,eosinophilia,and systemic symptoms syndrome(DReSS) is considered,along with Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis,a severe cutaneous drug reaction. It is characterized by the presence of a maculopapular erythematous skin eruption,fever,lymphadenopathy,influenza-like symptoms,eosinophilia,and visceral involvement such as hepatitis,pneumonitis,myocarditis,pericarditis,nephritis,and colitis. The prognosis of patients with DReSS is related to the severity of visceral involvement. The mortality ranges from approximately 5% to 10%,and death is mainly due to liver failure,which is also the organ most commonly involved in this syndrome. Although it was previously hypothesized in 1994,DReSS syndrome can lead to reactivation of one or more human herpesvirus family members. Now being included as diagnostic criteria in a proposed diagnostic score system,this reactivation can be detected up to 2-3 wk after DReSS syndrome onset. Other causes of mortality in DReSS syndrome include myocardial or pulmonary lesions and hemophagocytosis. We reviewed the literature of previously reported case-series of DReSS and liver involvement,highlighting the pattern of liver damage,the treatment used,and the outcome.

Objective:To evaluate the effect of human chorionic gonadotropins(hCG)and equine chorionic gonadotropins(eCG)on in vitro gilt oocyte maturation and embryonic development,using frozen semen for ***:Two independent experiments(6 replicates each)were carried out to evaluate gilt oocyte maturation,and fertilization and embryonic development by using ovaries from a local ***,712 oocytes were randomly distributed in four-well dishes to receive Novormon(eCG 5.0 IU),PG600(eCG 5.0 IU and hCG 2.5 IU),Chorulon(hCG 5.0 IU),or no *** were incubated with 5%CO2,95%air and saturation humidity at 39℃for 44 *** of the oocytes to metaphaseⅡwas assessed by using the aceto-orcein *** addition,741 oocytes were used and randomly distributed in four-well dishes,and then oocyte maturation was carried out as mentioned,but matured oocytes were washed and placed in fertilization medium with frozen-thawed *** were co-incubated for 7 h,and then washed and placed in development medium,and incubated for further 7 days,at which time embryonic development was *** and embryo development media were not supplemented with the studied ***:Novormon(eCG)and PG600(eCG+hCG)treatments significantly improved the percentages of metaphaseⅡoocytes compared to the control group(P<0.05).Furthermore,a significant increase was also observed in the young blastocyst stage between the control group and the PG600 treatment group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Hormonal products Novormon(eCG)and PG600(eCG+hCG)can obtain the highest percentages of in vitro maturation in gilt oocytes;however,this effect is not transferred to fertilization rates.

The object of this study is to assess the Ivlg （intravenous immunoglobulin） use in inflammatory systemic and immune-mediated illnesses, in patients older than 18 years in a tertiary hospital. The assessment also intends to ensure if the clinical indications matched with the evidence-based clinical guidelines recommendations of use. Analytical, observational, transversal and retrospective study carried out during 2012. Patients with inflammatory systemic and immuno-mediated illnesses, older than 18 years old, were included. The data collected were： age, sex, number of administrations, dosage, frequency, commercial brand and the indication for what the Ivlg treatment has been prescribed. As a reference guide the British Health Department Clinical Guidelines for Immunoglobulin Use （2nd edition, 2008, and 2nd edition update 2011） and its Spanish adaption were used. The lvlg treatment was justified by a grade of recommendation A, B or C in 41% of the indications. Thus in 59% （grey indications or unclear diagnosis） the IvIg use would be questionable because of its weak evidence. It was found one indication for what the prescription of IvIg was clearly not recommended. The inflammatory systemic and immune-mediated diseases include many pathologies for what the IvIg use has not been properly studied. There is a need of consensus guidelines for IvIg use to guide doctors and pharmacists in their clinical practice. Moreover, it is important to prioritize which indications and circumstances are of first importance to have their supply guaranteed.

Noise pollution is becoming a critical health risk for city *** 2020,the COVID-19 pandemic forced many cities to implement several mobility *** restrictions changed human activity patterns and decreased the noise levels and noise pollution that often affect urban *** the number of infections decreased,so did the outdoor activities,influencing the population’s perception of *** paper aims to evaluate the changes in noise levels associated with mobility restrictions between 2020 and 2021 in Guayaquil,*** study used crowdsourcing with the help of smartphones and mobile applications to collect geo-referenced environmental noise *** data was used to generate noise maps in different time ***,noise level maps were created using GIS-based tools to identify the urban areas that experienced the highest noise level variation during the study *** results show that the most significant noise increase occurred at ***,when analyzing noise level changes in different urban areas,the western area of Guayaquil was the one that experienced the most significant noise level *** inform the perception of noise pollution and could potentially serve as a reference for decision-makers during the proposal of public policies that ensure a better quality of life for its citizens.

AIM： To evaluate the use of short-duration transient visual evoked potentials（VEP） and color reflectivity discretization analysis（CORDA） in glaucomatous eyes,eyes suspected of having glaucoma,and healthy ***： The study included 136 eyes from 136 subjects： 49 eyes with glaucoma,45 glaucoma suspect eyes,and 42 healthy *** underwent Humphrey visual field（VF） testing,VEP testing,as well as peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer optical coherence tomography imaging studies with post-acquisition CORDA *** analysis was performed using means and ranges,ANOVA,post-hoc comparisons using Turkey＇s adjustment,Fisher＇s Exact test,area under the curve,and Spearman correlation ***： Parameters from VEP and CORDA correlated significantly with VF mean deviation（MD）（P〈0.05）.In distinguishing glaucomatous eyes from controls,VEP demonstrated area under the curve（AUC） values of 0.64-0.75 for amplitude and 0.67-0.81 for *** CORDA HR1 parameter was highly discriminative for glaucomatous eyes vs controls（AUC=0.94）.CONCLUSION： Significant correlations are found between MD and parameters of short-duration transient VEP and CORDA,diagnostic modalities which warrant further consideration in identifying glaucoma characteristics.

Spinal cord injury is a very common pathological event that has devastating functional consequences in patients. In recent years, several research groups are trying to find an effective therapy that could be applied in clinical practice. In this study, we analyzed the combination of different strategies as a potential therapy for spinal cord injury. Immunization with neural derived peptides(INDP), inhibition of glial scar formation(dipyridyl: DPY), as well as the use of biocompatible matrix(fibrin glue: FG) impregnated with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) were combined and then its beneficial effects were evaluated in the induction of neuroprotection and neuroregeneration after acute SCI. Sprague-Dawley female rats were subjected to a moderate spinal cord injury and then randomly allocated into five groups: 1) phosphate buffered saline; 2) DPY; 3) INDP + DPY; 4) DPY+ FG; 5) INDP + DPY + FG + MSCs. In all rats, intervention was performed 72 hours after spinal cord injury. Locomotor and sensibility recovery was assessed in all rats. At 60 days after treatment, histological examinations of the spinal cord(hematoxylin-eosin and Bielschowsky staining) were performed. Our results showed that the combination therapy(DPY+ INDP + FG+ MSCs) was the best strategy to promote motor and sensibility recovery. In addition, significant increases in tissue preservation and axonal density were observed in the combination therapy group. Findings from this study suggest that the combination theapy(DPY+ INDP + FG + MSCs) exhibits potential effects on the protection and regeneration of neural tissue after acute spinal cord injury. All procedures were approved by the Animal Bioethics and Welfare Committee(approval No. 178544; CSNBTBIBAJ 090812960)on August 15, 2016.

Modeling of Liquid-Liquid Extraction Process for Glycerol Purification from Biodiesel Production

This paper shows some generalities about the glycerin byproduct obtained from biodiesel production process, presents an analysis of the ternary equilibrium between methanol, water and glycerol, and shows the influence that temperature has on the balance. This phase diagram illustrates ternary equilibrium at 10, 20 and 50 ℃, keeping the pressure constant at 1 atm （atmosphere） to standardize the analysis. The purpose of it is to establish the best temperature for the purification of glycerol by liquid-liquid extraction method under the ＂extraction in several stages cross flow＂ taking an initial mixture of glycerol with composition 15 wt.% water, 25 wt.% methanol and 60 wt.% glycerol. Water was used as liquid-liquid extraction solvent in order to remove as much methanol as possible from the initial solution due to the existence of a zone of insolubility between the glycerol and water in the ternary equilibrium. By this reason, two solutions are obtained, one consisting of water and methanol containing a trace of glycerin and the other consisting of water, glycerine and traces of methanol, which contain only 4.62% of the total methanol which enter in the process of liquid-liquid extraction, with 60.62% of the total glycerol, which is sent to a fractional distillation process to purify glycerin up to 98% by weight.

Oximetry is a method for measuring the oxygen saturation of haemoglobin in blood. Particularly, retinal oximetry based in the measurement of oxygen saturation in retinal vessels has acquired great interest to gather information on blood oxygenation from said vessels within inner and outer retina. Non-invasive spectrophotometric retinal oximetry has been studied for over five decades based on imaging spectroscopy. However, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is an alternative to analyze the absorption difference between oxyhaemoglobin (HbO2) and deoxyhaemoglobin (Hb) in the retinal vessels and the choroidal structure. We propose in this paper an alternative process to manipulate conventional OCT images to evaluate changes in the relative haemoglobin oxygen saturation. Conventional OCT images from 570 nm and 600 nm in gray scale are converted to a corresponding color scale to be compared to the oxygenation information involved in the original gray scale OCT images.
