Lactose plays a crucial role in the growth performance of pigs at weaning because it is a palatable and easily digestible energy source that eases the transition from milk to solid ***,the digestibility of lactose declines after weaning due to a reduction in endogenous lactase activity in *** a result,some lactose may be fermented in the gastrointestinal tract of *** of lactose by intestinal microbiota yields lactic acid and volatile fatty acids,which may positively regulate the intestinal environment and microbiome,resulting in improved gastrointestinal health of weanling *** hypothesize that the prebiotic effect of lactose may play a larger role in weanling pig nutrition as the global feed industry strives to reduce antibiotic usage and pharmacological levels of zinc oxide and supra-nutritional levels of *** presented in this review indicates that high dietary lactose improves growth performance of piglets,as well as the growth of beneficial bacteria,particularly Lactobacillus,with the positive effects being more pronounced in the first 2 weeks after ***,the risk of post-weaning diarrhea may increase as pigs get older due to reduced lactase activity,high dietary lactose concentrations,and larger feed intakes,all of which may lead to excessive lactose fermentation in the intestine of the ***,dietary lactose levels exert different effects on growth performance and gastrointestinal physiological functions in different feeding phases of weanling ***,no formal recommendation of lactose for weanling pigs has been reported.A meta-analysis approach was used to determine that diets fed to swine should include 20%,15%,and 0 lactose from d 0-7,d 7-14,and d 14-35 post-weaning,***,sustainable swine production demands that economics must also be taken into account as lactose and lactose containing ingredients are ***,alternatives to lactose,so called“lactose equivalents

This paper presents an online AUV(autonomous underwater vehicle)path planner that employs path replanning approach and the SdEQPSO(selective differential evolution-hybridized quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization)algorithm to optimize an AUV mission conducted in an unknown,dynamic and cluttered ocean *** proposed path replanner considered the effect of ocean currents in path optimization to generate a Pareto-optimal path that guides the AUV to its target within minimum *** optimization was based on the onboard sensor data measured from the environment,which consists of a priori unknown dynamic obstacles and spatiotemporal *** sensor arrangements for the forward-looking sonar and horizontal acoustic doppler current profiler(H-AdCP)were considered in 2d and 3d *** on the simulation results,the SdEQPSO path replanner was found to be capable of generating a time-optimal path that offered up to 13%reduction in travel time compared to the situation where the vehicle simply followed a path with the shortest *** proposed replanning technique also showed consistently better performance over a reactive path planner in terms of solution quality,stability,and computational *** of the replanner was verified under stochastic process using the Monte Carlo *** generated path fulfilled the vehicle’s safety and physical constraints,while intelligently exploiting ocean currents to improve the vehicle’s efficiency.

Field pea(Pisum sativum L.) is an important protein-rich pulse crop produced globally. Increasing the lipid content of Pisum seeds through conventional and contemporary molecular breeding tools may bring added value to the crop. However, knowledge about genetic diversity and lipid content in field pea is limited. An understanding of genetic diversity and population structure in diverse germplasm is important and a prerequisite for genetic dissection of complex characteristics and marker-trait associations. Fifty polymorphic microsatellite markers detecting a total of 207 alleles were used to obtain information on genetic diversity, population structure and marker-trait associations. Cluster analysis was performed using UPGMA to construct a dendrogram from a pairwise similarity matrix. Pea genotypes were divided into five major clusters. A model-based population structure analysis divided the pea accessions into four groups. Percentage lipid content in 35 diverse pea accessions was used to find potential associations with the SSR markers. Markers Ad73, d21, and AA5 were significantly associated with lipid content using a mixed linear model(MLM) taking population structure(Q) and relative kinship(K) into account. The results of this preliminary study suggested that the population could be used for marker-trait association mapping studies.

Background: In spite of supporting evidence and widespread promotional campaigns, screening rates for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers in Ontario are lower than expected. These low screening rates may be partially due to lack of knowledge on the part of patients. Given the importance of early detection to reduce cancer mortality and morbidity, it is prudent to investigate where knowledge deficits may exist. The purpose of this study was to assess patient knowledge of the Ontario screening guidelines for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers. Methods: Patients of a family health team in Toronto, Ontario were surveyed regarding their knowledge of cancer screening guidelines. Questions included knowledge regarding the test, screening interval and age for cancer screening for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers as well as sociodemographic characteristics. Responses were summarized using descriptive statistics. Results: A total of 117 patients were surveyed. Knowledge of the appropriate screening test was high for breast and cervical cancer (85.5% and 70.1% respectively) though much lower for colorectal cancer (17.1%). Knowledge regarding the age that screening should occur and the screening intervals were much lower across all cancer types. For breast cancer, 16.2% knew the age screening should occur and 30.8% knew the screening interval. For cervical cancer, 6.8% knew the age screening should occur and only 4.3% knew the screening interval. For colorectal cancer, 32.5% knew the age to start screening and 26% knew the screening interval. Conclusions: Knowledge of the cancer screening guidelines appeared to be low across all cancer types, particularly for the ages at when screening should occur and the appropriate screening intervals. These results suggest that public health practitioners and cancer prevention organizations may need to increase efforts for patient education on cancer screening.
