Soil food webs possess regularities in structure that are important to key ecosystem services such as the cycling of plant limiting nutrients and the formation and stabilization of soil organic *** webs are organized into energy channels that are based on different resources （plant roots and detritus）,organisms that differ in their physiologies, and coupled by *** detritus channel is subdivided into a fast cycling bacterial channel based on labile substrates,bacteria,and consumers of bacteria,and a slow cycling fungal channel based on resistant snbstrates,fungi,and consumers of *** natural systems one of the energy channels tends to dominate,resulting in an asylnmetry in the relative distribution of biomass and flow of energy within the food *** manipulations involving nutrient additions, tillage,grazing,warming and CO,augmentations in temperate grasslands,agricultural fields and Arctic tundra induce predictable changes in the architecture of the food web and the ecosystem *** and phosphorus additions,tillage,and grazing directly or indirectly alter the forms and availability of nutrients and carbon to alter the C:N ratio of substrates to more labile forms tend to
