BACKGROUND Pancreaticoduodenectom.(PD)is a technically com.lex operation,with a re-latively high risk for *** ability to rescue patients from.post-PD com.lications is as a recognized quality *** protocols were instituted at our low volum. facility in the year *** To docum.nt the rate of rescue from.post-PD com.lications with tailored protocols in place as a m.asure of *** A retrospective audit was perform.d to collect data from.patients who experienced m.jor post-PD com.lications at a low volum. pancreatic surgery unit in Trinidad and Tobago between January 1,2013 and June 30,***-dardized definitions from.the International Study Group of Pancreatic Surgery were used to define post-PD com.lications,and the m.dified Clavien-Dindo classification was used to classify post-PD *** Over the study period,113 patients at a m.an age of 57.5 years(standard deviation[SD]±9.23;range:30-90;m.dian:56)underwent PDs at this *** com.lications were recorded in 33(29.2%)patients at a m.an age of 53.8 years(SD:±7.9).Twenty-nine(87.9%)patients who experienced m.jor m.rbidity were salvaged after aggre-ssive treatm.nt of their ***(3.5%)died from.bleeding pseudoaneurysm.1),septic shock secondary to a bile leak(1),anastom.tic leak(1),and m.ocardial infarction(1).There was a significantly greater salvage rate in patients with Am.rican Society of Anesthesiologists scores≤2(93.3%vs 25%;P=0.0024).CONCLUSION This paper adds to the growing body of evidence that volum. alone should not be used as a m.rker of quality for patients requiring *** low volum.s at our facility,we dem.nstrated that 87.9%of patients were rescued from.m.jor *** attributed this to several factors including developm.nt of rescue protocols,the com.etence of the pancreatic surgery team. and continuous,and adaptive learning by the entire institution,cul-m.nating in the developm.nt of tailored peri-pancreatectom. protoc

AIm. To explore the association between m.thylation in leukocyte DNA and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk in m.le sm.kers using the α-tocopherol, β-carotene cancer prevention study. m.THODS: About 221 incident CRC cases, and 219 controls, frequency-m.tched on age and sm.king intensity were included. DNA m.thylation of 1505 CpG sites selected from.807 genes were evaluated using Illum.na GoldenGate m.thylation Cancer Panel I in pre-diagnostic blood leukocytes of study subjects. Tertiles of m.thylation level classified according to the distribution in controls for each CpG site were used to analyze the association between m.thylation level and CRC risk with logistic regression. The tim. between blood draw to cancer diagnosis (classifying cases according to latency) was incorporated in further analyses using proportional odds regression. RESULTS: We found that m.thylation changes of 31 CpG sites were associated with CRC risk at P m.ined statistically significant after Bonferroni correction, the m.st statistically significant CpG site associated with CRC risk achieved a P value of 1.0 × 10-4. The CpG site is located in DSP gene, and the risk estim.te was 1.52 (95% CI: 0.91-2.53) and 2.62 (95% CI: 1.65-4.17) for the second and third tertile com.aring with the lowest tertile respectively. Taking the latency inform.tion into account strengthened som. associations, suggesting that the m.thylation levels of corresponding sites m.ght change over tim. with tum.r progression. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the m.thylation level of som. genes were associated with cancer susceptibility and som. were related to tum.r developm.nt over tim.. Further studies are warranted to confirm.and refine our results.

Herein,we report the victorious synthesis of m.tal-organic fram.works(m.Fs) on TiO_2 nanotubes(NTs)using a layer-by-layer(LbL) *** crystalline and hom.genous thin film. of m.Fs were grown and characterized using XRD,SEm.FT-IR and UV/Vis ***,the utilization of the m.F film. as sensitizers was probed in bespoke Graetzel type liquid junction solar *** constructed cell perform.nce revealed an I_(sc) of 1.16 m. cm.(–2),Vocof 0.63 V,FF of 0.33,and E_(ff) of 0.42%.Further,pum.probe transient laser spectroscopy was perform.d to investigate the energy and charge transfer dynam.cs of the m.Fs/TiO_2 NTs *** results indicated 86% injection *** ultrafast pum.-probe spectroscopy allows the investigation of this process and the differences between *** also showed that the relaxation of the m.F chrom.phores is in com.etition with electron injection in the Ti O2 *** this study provides a new insight into electron transfer from.photoexcited m.tal-organic fram.works(m.Fs) into titanium.dioxide.

Gam.a-ray bursts are the m.st lum.nous explosions in the Universe, whose origin and m.chanism.are the focus of intense interest. They appear connected to su- pernova rem.ants from.m.ssive stars or the m.rger of their rem.ants, and their bright- ness m.kes them.tem.orarily detectable out to the largest distances yet explored in the universe. Gabonese’s estuary is an im.ortant coastal m.ngrove setting and soil plays a key role in m.ngrove carbon storage in m.ngrove forests. However, the spatial variation in soil organic carbon (SOC) storage rem.in unclear. To address this gap, determ.ning the SOC spatial variation in Gabonese’s estuarine is essential for better understanding the global carbon cycle. The present study com.ared soil organic carbon between northern and southern sites in different m.ngrove forest, Rhizophora racem.sa and Avicennia germ.nans. The results showed that the m.an SOC stocks at 1 m.depth were 256.28 ± 127.29 m.C ha−1. Am.ng the different regions, SOC in northern zone was significantly (p p m.C ha−1) than upper layers (55.42 ± 25.37 m.C ha−1). The study highlights that low deforestation rate have led to less CO2 (705.3 m. CO2e ha−1 - 922.62 m. CO2e ha−1) em.ssions than m.st sedim.nt carbon-rich m.ngroves in the world. These results highlight the influence of soil texture and m.ngrove forest types on the m.ngrove SOC stocks. The first national com.arison of soil organic carbon stocks between m.ngroves and upland tropical forests indicated SOC stocks were two tim.s m.re in m.ngroves soils (51.21 ± 45.00 m.C ha−1) than prim.ry (20.33 ± 12.7 m.C ha−1), savanna and cropland (21.71 ± 15.10 m.C ha−1). We find that m.ngroves in this study em.t lower dioxide-carbon equivalent em.ssions. This study highlights the im.ortance of national inventories of soil organic carbon and can be used as a baseline on the role of m.ngroves in carbon sequestration and clim.te change m.tigation but the variation in SOC stocks indicates the need for further national data.

The solid state synthesis of the phase"Ce_(3)NbO_(7+δ)",from.stoichiom.tric quantities of CeO_(2)and Nb_(2)O_(5),was investigated under air atm.sphere,as previously described by Zhang et al.(Journal of Rare Earths,2007,25,730-733),A com.ination of powder X-ray diffraction,scanning electron m.croscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis,and laboratory Ce L_(3)X-ray absorption spectroscopy,dem.nstrates the product of the reaction to be a m.xture of CeO_(2)and CeNbO_(4).These data,and reexam.nation of the published X-ray diffraction data of"Ce_(3)NbO_(7+δ)",are consistent with this phase in fact being CeO_(2).No evidence for the form.tion of a phase of com.osition"Ce_(3)NbO_(7+δ)"is found,by solid state synthesis under air atm.sphere.
