Correlation of Preoperative D-Dimer Levels and Postoperative Venous Thromboembolism in Patients Undergoing Total Hip Arthroplasty and Total Knee Arthroplasty

Background: The relationship of preoperative D-dimer and Venous thromboembolism (VTE) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and total hip arthroplasty (THA) remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to assess the value of D-dimer in the detection of early VTE after TKA and THA. Materials and Methods: A total of 312 patients were evaluated in this retrospective study from 2016 to 2020 at a tertiary care centre, Mumbai who were operated for THA and TKA. The measurement of plasma D-dimer level was done preoperatively and clinically symptomatic patients were evaluated and confirmed for VTE by Colour Doppler Sonography. The plasma D-dimer levels were correlated statistically with the sonographic VTE. Results: 11 patients developed Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and 1 patient developed Pulmonary embolism (PE). Preoperative plasma D-dimer levels were significantly higher (P (pelvic and femoral veins), and 2 thrombi were seen in distal veins (posterior tibial, peroneal, gastrocnemian veins) of the calf in THA patients, and all 8 thrombi were seen in the distal veins (posterior tibial, peroneal, gastrocnemian veins) of the calf in TKA patients. Conclusion: We infer that if the preoperative D-dimer levels were more than 0.5 mg/l, the chances of developing VTE postoperatively are more, which can be diagnosed clinically and further by other investigations. In this study, we have shown that doing preoperative D-dimer level can almost PREDICT the development of VTE and thus prevent complications.

Green Communication: An Effective Approach to Minimize Risk of Forgetfulness from Mobile Phone Usage

The usage of mobile-phone among children increased significantly. Children are in their growing phase and cells of their body are rapidly dividing, therefore propagation of electro-magnetic (EM) radiation occurs quickly in children. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the extent of mobile-phone usage as well as its possible health effect. A total number of 455 (398 children and 57 adults, 396 urban and 59 rural) students of age group ranging from 10-29 years participated in this study. An “Information Gathering Chronological (IGC) model” was used for the collection and evaluation of information. The four major parameters, i.e. demographic and public uniqueness, mobile-phone consumption patterns, grievance of the “forgetfulness” symptom to the subjects and awareness about the safety measures were included to get the concise information from participants. We have observed that the prevalence of “forgetfulness” was 23.95% among mobile-phone users. The incidence of overall “forgetfulness” symptoms was 23.59%, 17.46%, 25.00% and 37.50% in low (LU), normal (NU), moderate (MU) and heavy (HU) mobile-phone users respectively. A trend for risk for “forgetfulness” was observed in HU as compared to LU in overall mobile-phone users. Three folds and nearly five folds increased risk for “forgetfulness” was found among HU as compared to LU in children (p ≤ 0.0210) and urban area mobile-phone users respectively. No significant difference for “forgetfulness” symptoms was found in other categories (i.e. adult and rural mobile-phone users). These results suggested that the incidences of “forgetfulness” among children from urban area mobile-phone users were significantly increased.

土丁桂属草药是作用于中枢神经系统的印度传统药物,特别是对促进记忆和改善智力有较好疗效。从印度传统医学和梵语文献中提取的大量信息提示,冠以土丁桂属草药名称的植物类别共4种:旋花科田旋花、旋花科土丁桂、蝶形花科蝴蝶花豆和龙胆科穿心草。这些草药名称均在古代文献中有所记载,可单独使用或与其他药材组合成各种草药处方。本文就现有的科学信息,如土丁桂属不同植物来源物种的生药学特征、化学成分、药理作用、临床前及临床应用等方面进行述评,以期为科学地应用土丁桂提供依据。此外,还可根据不同植物来源土丁桂属草药的不同功效进行鉴别应用。

Objective:To investigate the antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemie properties of hydroalcoholic extract of fruits of Sapindus mukorossi Caerlen and its beneficial effect on haeniatological parameters with histopathological analysis in streptpzotocin induced diabetic ***:Sapindus mukorossi fruits extract(250 and 500 mg/kg body weight) and standard drug glybenclamide(0.5 mg/kg body weight) were administered to diabetic *** of extract on hyperglycemia,hyperlipidemia and hematological parameters was studied in diabetic *** changes in diabetic rat pancreas were also observed after extract and glybenclamide ***:Daily oral administration of Sapindus mukorossi fruits extract(250 and 500 mg/kg body weight) and glybenclamide for 20 days showed beneficial effects on blood glucose level(P<0.01) and lipid *** extract has a favorable effect on the histopathological changes of the pancreas in streptozotocin induced ***: These findings reveal that the hydroalcoholic extract of Sapindus mukorossi fruits extract possesses antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemie *** *** extract can prevent various complications of diabetes and improve some haeniatological parameters.
