Over the past decade, Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) have revolutionized high-performance computing, playing pivotal roles in advancing fields like IoT, autonomous vehicles, and exascale computing. Despite these advancements, efficiently programming GPUs remains a daunting challenge, often relying on trial-and-error optimization methods. This paper introduces an optimization technique for CUDA programs through a novel Data Layout strategy, aimed at restructuring memory data arrangement to significantly enhance data access locality. Focusing on the dynamic programming algorithm for chained matrix multiplication—a critical operation across various domains including artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing (HPC), and the Internet of Things (IoT)—this technique facilitates more localized access. We specifically illustrate the importance of efficient matrix multiplication in these areas, underscoring the technique’s broader applicability and its potential to address some of the most pressing computational challenges in GPU-accelerated applications. Our findings reveal a remarkable reduction in memory consumption and a substantial 50% decrease in execution time for CUDA programs utilizing this technique, thereby setting a new benchmark for optimization in GPU computing.

Objective:This study aimed to explore the global,prevalence,and risk factors of fever after percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PCNL)by conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis.Methods:The high-sensitivity searching was conducted without time limitation until December 30,2020 in Web of Sciences,Scopus,and PubMed based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.results:The prevalence rates of fever and sepsis among patient undergoing PCNL were estimated 9.5%(95%confidence interval[CI]:9.3%-9.7%),and 4.5%(95%CI:4.2%-4.8%),respectively.Nephrostomy tube was used in 9.96%(95%CI:9.94%-9.97%)of patients.The mean preoperative white blood cells of patients were 6.401×109/L;18.3%and 4.55%of patients were considered as the positive urinary culture and pyuria,respectively.About 20.4%of patients suffered from residual stones.The odds ratios(Ors)of fever in patients who suffering from diabetes mellitus,hydronephrosis,staghorn stones,and blood transfusion were 4.62(95%CI:2.95-7.26),1.04(95%CI:0.81-1.34),2.57(95%CI:0.93-7.11),and 2.65(95%CI:1.62-4.35),respectively.Patients who underwent PCNL in prone position were more likely to develop fever(Or:1.23;95%CI:0.75-2.00)than patients in supine position.Conclusion:The current study showed that patients who suffer from diabetes mellitus,hydronephrosis,staghorn stones,nephrostomy tube or double-J stent,blood transfusion,and also patients who underwent PCNL in prone position surgery are more likely to develop a postoperative fever after PCNL.

Analysis of the overall pressure balance loop for a methanol-to-olefins dual fluidized bed reactor-regenerator

Development of a comprehensive reactor model is of paramount importance for design and scale-up of methanol-to-olefins (MTO) process in a dual fluidized bed reactor (DFB). These models must integrate suitable reaction kinetic expressions with hydrodynamic models properly descriptive of gas-solid contact in fluidized bed reactors. In this modeling study, our previously developed kinetic models of MTO fluidized bed reactor and regenerator are coupled with overall mass, energy and pressure balances to ensure smooth circulation of catalyst particles between the two fluidized beds. This integrated model was then applied to determine geometric dimensions of a demo-scale MTO DFB configuration and to obtain the mass distribution of catalyst particles throughout the entire system including the pipes connecting the two reactors. Our model is capable of being integrated into simulation software such as Aspen Plus for plant-wide optimization and scale-up studies.

Background:Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma(PSC)is a rare and aggressive subtype of non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC),characterized by the presence of epithelial and sarcoma-like components.The molecular and immune landscape of PSC has not been well defined.Methods:Multiomics profiling of 21 pairs of PSCs with matched normal lung tissues was performed through targeted high-depth DNA panel,whole-exome,and rNA sequencing.We describe molecular and immune features that define subgroups of PSC with disparate genomic and immunogenic features as well as distinct clinical outcomes.results:In total,27 canonical cancer gene mutations were identified,with TP53 the most frequently mutated gene,followed by KrAS.Interestingly,most TP53 and KrAS mutations were earlier genomic events mapped to the trunks of the tumors,suggesting branching evolution in most PSC tumors.We identified two distinct molecular subtypes of PSC,driven primarily by immune infiltration and signaling.The Immune High(IM-H)subtype was associated with superior survival,highlighting the impact of immune infiltration on the biological and clinical features of localized PSCs.Conclusions:We provided detailed insight into the mutational landscape of PSC and identified two molecular subtypes associated with prognosis.IM-H tumors were associated with favorable recurrence-free survival and overall survival,highlighting the importance of tumor immune infiltration in the biological and clinical features of PSCs.

Windows,as transparent intermediaries between the indoors and outdoors,have a significant impact on building energy consumption and indoor visual and thermal comfort.With the recent development of dynamic window structures,especially various attachment technologies,the thermal,visual,and energy performances of windows have been significantly improved.In this research,a new dynamic transparent louver structure sandwiched within conventional double-pane windows is proposed,designed,optimized,and examined in terms of energy savings in different climates.The uniqueness of the proposed design is that it autonomously responds to the seasonal needs prompted by solar heat gain through the use of thermally deflected bimetallic elements.Moreover,by integrating spectral selective louvers into the system design,the dynamic structure enables strong solar infrared modulation with a little visible variation.The optical and thermal properties of the dynamic glazing structure support about 30%and 16%seasonal variations in solar heat gains and visible transmittance,respectively.Furthermore,the potential energy savings were explored via parametric energy simulations,which showed significant potential for heating and cooling energy savings.This proposed design demonstrates a simple smart dynamic glazing structure driven by seasonal temperature differences,with significant solar heat control capabilities and minor effects on the visible or visual quality of the glazing system.

Beech stands are considered part of the ancient forest ecosystems in the northern hemisphere.In mixed stands in beach forest ecosystems,the type of associated tree species can signifi cantly aff ect soil functions,but their infl uence on microbial activity,nutrient cycling and belowground properties is unknown.Here,we considered forest patches in northern Iran that are dominated by diff erent tree species:Fagus orientalis Lipsky,Quercus castaneifolia C.A.Mey.,Pterocarya fraxinifolia(Lam.),Tilia begonifolia Stev.,Zelkova carpinifolia Dippe,Acer cappadocicum Gled,Acer velutinum Boiss.,Fraxinus excelsior L.,Carpinus betulus L.,and Alnus subcordata C.A.Mey.For each forest patch–tree species,litter and soil samples(25×25×10 cm,100 of each)were analyzed for determine soil and litter properties and their relationship with tree species.The litter decomposition rate during a 1-year experiment was also determined.A PCA showed a clear diff erence between selected litter and soil characteristics among tree species.F.orientalis,Q.castaneifolia,P.fraxinifolia,T.begonifolia,Z.carpinifolia,A.cappadocicum,and A.velutinum enhanced soil microbial biomass of carbon,whereas patches with F.excelsior,C.betulus and A.subcordata had faster litter decomposition and enhanced biotic activities and C and N dynamics.Thus,soil function indicators were species-specifi c in the mixed beech forest.A.subcordata(a N-fi xing species),C.betulus and F.excelsior were main drivers of microbial activities related to nutrient cycling in the old-growth beech forest.

Iran,located in one of the most earthquake-prone regions of the world,has experienced a very large number of destructive earthquakes that brought about considerable loss of human life and economic consequences.The coun‑try possesses a vast number of monumental and vernacular built heritages that are constantly threatened by earth‑quakes.As vernacular techniques for dwellings comply with the needs,comfort,utility,and functionality of people,it is expected that endemic earthquake-resistant techniques make an essential contribution to Iranian vernacular archi‑tecture.The city of Yazd presents a unique and rich vernacular for earthen construction within Iranian architectural heritage,which has resulted in the recognition of the historic fabric of the city as a World Heritage Site since 2017.Considering the importance of exploring diferent local seismic cultures worldwide,this paper introduces an essential part of Iranian local seismic culture by recognising and classifying the vernacular earthquake-resistant techniques used in the earthen architecture of the city of Yazd.The techniques were collected by surveying the historic fabric,using data available in the literature,and interviewing traditional builders and local conservators.Next,the seismic infuence of each technique was evaluated using examples from the performance of adobe constructions during the 2003 Bam earthquake.

A Framework for Assessment of Water Poverty in Iran

The water shortage crisis is one of the main concerns that is threatening the biological security in Iran. According to available data and information, providing a framework for the assessment of water poverty in Iran seems crucial. The land-dividing unit in Iran is the province, and most of the governmental information is gathered based on this unit. In this sense, Isfahan province, which is one of the central provinces in Iran that is suffering from water crises, has been selected. The water poverty index(WPI), which is adopted in accordance with Iran's situation, including five components of resources, access, capacity, use, and environment, has been used for each of Isfahan's cities. “Capacity” and “use” has the greatest correlation, and it seems any advancement in water utilization for economic purposes might result in increased capacity, and vice versa. Also,there is a positive correlation between WPI and components of access, capacity, use, and environment. It can be interpreted that the lack of access to water services may be due to a lack of income or education. Finally, access, capacity, and use showed the strongest relationships between WPI and its subcategories. Therefore, these three elements should be the main focus of any initiative to manage the water poverty in Isfahan province.
