Combined U-Pb SHRIMP and Hf isotope study of the Late Paleozoic Yaminue Complex,Rio Negro Province,Argentina:Implications for the origin and evolution of the Patagonia composite terrane

We have carried out zircon U-Pb SHRIMP dating and Hf isotope determinations on a biotite paraschist and on a tonalitic orthogneiss of the Yaminué Complex, and re-evaluate this complex in the broader context of the tectonic evolution of the Patagonia composite terrane. In the metasedimentary unit （msuYC）, the youngest detrital zircon dated at 318 ± 5 Ma （Mississippian/Pennsylvanian boundary） indicates a Pennsylvanian （or younger） depositional age. The three main age populations peak at 474, 454 and 374 Ma. Preliminary Hf isotope data for two detrital zircons （447 and 655 Ma） yielded ε（Hf） values of -0.32 and 0.48, indicating that their primary sources contained small amounts of recycled crustal components （of Calymmian age; TDM 1.56 Ga）. Zircons from the orthogneiss （miuYC; intrusive into msuYC） show a crystallization age of 261.3 - 2.7 Ma （Capitanian; late middle Permian） which is broadly coeval with deformation, and Neoarchean-Paleoproterozoic inheritance. Meaningful core-rim relationship between Neoarchean zircon cores and late Permian rims is well defined, indicating the occurrence of Archean crust in this sector of Patagonia. Hf TDM of Permian zircons is mainly Meso-Paleoarchean （2.97-3.35 Ga）, with highly negative e（Hf） values （ca, -33）. Hf TDM of inherited Neoarchean zircon cores is also Meso-Paleoarchean （3.14-3.45 Ga） but more juvenile （ε（Hf） = -0.3）. Hf isotopes reinforce the presence of unexposed ancient crust in this area. Combining geological and isotope data, as well as geophysical models, we identify the Yaminué Complex within the La Esperanza-Yaminué crustal block flanked by two other, distinct crustal blocks： the Eastern block which forms part of the Patagonia terrane sensu stricto, located in the eastern Patagonian region, and the Western block forming part of the Southern Patagonia terrane. Their origins and timing of amalgamation to form the Patagonia composite terrane are also discussed.

Strong parallel evidence of selection during switchgrass sward establishment in hybrid and lowland ecotypes

Well-tailored nanomaterials with a single-crystal character provide ideal building blocks for on-chip plasmonic *** colloidal methods have demonstrated mastery over the synthesis of such structures,it has proven quite difficult to deploy these same nanomaterials on substrate surfaces in a highly deterministic manner where precise control over position and orientation is ***,we demonstrate a room-temperature two-reagent liquid-phase seed-mediated synthesis of gold nanoplates directly on substrate surfaces in arrays over a square-centimeter *** synthesis is reliant on benchtop lithographic and directed-assembly processes that give rise to single-crystal seeds of gold that express both an epitaxial relationship with the underlying substrate and the internal defect structure required to promote a two-dimensional growth *** resulting structures are highly faceted and,because seed-substrate epitaxy is imposed upon the growing nanoplates,are identically aligned on the substrate *** yields are increased to values as high as 95%using a post-processing sonication procedure that selectively removes a small population of irregularly shaped nanostructures from the substrate surface,and in doing so,gives rise to an uncompromised plasmonic *** work,therefore,advances the techniques needed to integrate single-crystal nanomaterials with wafer-based technologies and provides leading-edge capabilities in terms of defining large-area arrays of plasmonic structures with the nanoplate geometry.

Looking retrospectively at the development of humanity, vaccination is an unprecedented medical landmark that saves lives by harnessing the human immune system. During the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) pandemic, vaccination is still the most effective defense modality. The successful clinical application of the lipid nanoparticle-based Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna mRNA COVID-19 vaccines highlights promising future of nanotechnology in vaccine development. Compared with conventional vaccines, nanovaccines are supposed to have advantages in lymph node accumulation,antigen assembly, and antigen presentation;they also have, unique pathogen biomimicry properties because of well-organized combination of multiple immune factors. Beyond infectious diseases, vaccine nanotechnology also exhibits considerable potential for cancer treatment. The ultimate goal of cancer vaccines is to fully mobilize the potency of the immune system as a living therapeutic to recognize tumor antigens and eliminate tumor cells, and nanotechnologies have the requisite properties to realize this *** this review, we summarize the recent advances in vaccine nanotechnology from infectious disease prevention to cancer immunotherapy and highlight the different types of materials, mechanisms, administration methods, as well as future perspectives.

Magnetic anchor guidance for endoscopic submucosal dissection and other endoscopic procedures

Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) is a wellestablished, minimally invasive treatment for superficial neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract. The universal adoption of ESD has been limited by its slow learning curve, long procedure times, and high risk of complications. One technical challenge is the lack of a second hand that can provide traction, as in conventional surgery. Reliable tissue retraction that exposes the submucosal plane of dissection would allow for safer and more efficient dissection. Magnetic anchor guided endoscopic submucosal dissection(MAGESD) has potential benefits compared to other current traction methods. MAG-ESD offers dynamic tissue retraction independent of the endoscope mimicking a surgeon's "second hand". Two types of magnets can be used: electromagnets and permanent magnets. In this article we review the MAG-ESD technology, published work and studies of magnets in ESD. We also review the use of magnetic anchor guidance systems in natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery and the idea of magnetic non-contact retraction using surface ferromagentization. We discuss the current limitations, the future potential of MAG-ESD and the developments needed for adoption of this technology.

Systematic review and meta-analysis of outcomes of anatomic repair in congenitally corrected transposition of great arteries

BACKGROUND Treatment of congenitally corrected transposition of great arteries(cc-TGA)with anatomic repair strategy has been considered superior due to restoration of the morphologic left ventricle in the systemic ***,data on long term outcomes are limited to single center reports and include small sample *** To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis for observational studies reporting outcomes on anatomic repair for *** MEDLINE and Scopus databases were queried using predefined criteria for reports published till December 31,*** reporting anatomic repair of minimum 5 cc-TGA patients with at least a 2 year follow up were *** was performed using Comprehensive meta-analysis v3.0 *** Eight hundred and ninety-five patients underwent anatomic repair with a pooled follow-up of 5457.2 patient-years(PY).Pooled estimate for operative mortality was 8.3%[95%confidence interval(CI):6.0%-11.4%].0.2%(CI:0.1%-0.4%)patients required mechanical circulatory support postoperatively and 1.7%(CI:1.1%-2.4%)developed post-operative atrioventricular block requiring a *** surviving initial surgery had a transplant free survival of 92.5%(CI:89.5%-95.4%)per 100 PY and a low rate of need for pacemaker(0.3/100 PY;CI:0.1-0.4).84.7%patients(CI:79.6%-89.9%)were found to be in New York Heart Association(NYHA)functional class I or II after 100 PY follow *** re-intervention rate was 5.3 per 100 PY(CI:3.8-6.8).CONCLUSION Operative mortality with anatomic repair strategy for cc-TGA is *** that,transplant free survival after anatomic repair for cc-TGA patients is highly *** of patients maintain NYHA I/II functional ***,monitoring for burden of re-interventions specific for operation type is very essential.

Phylogenetic and sequence analyses of insect transferrins suggest that only transferrin 1 has a role in iron homeostasis

Iron is essential to life,but surprisingly little is known about how iron is managed in nonvertebrate *** mammals,the well-characterized transferrins bind iron and are involved in iron transport or immunity,whereas other members of the transferrin family do not have a role in iron *** insects,the functions of transferrins are still poorly *** goals of this project were to identify the transferrin genes in a diverse set of insect species,resolve the evolutionary relationships among these genes,and predict which of the transferrins are likely to have a role in iron *** phylogenetic analysis of transferrins from 16 orders of insects and two orders of noninsect hexapods demonstrated that there are four orthologous groups of insect *** analysis suggests that transferrin 2 arose prior to the origin of insects,and transferrins/,i,and 4 arose early in insect *** sequence analysis of each of the insect transferrins was used to predict signal peptides,carboxyl-terminal transmembrane regions,GPI-anchors,and iron *** on this analysis,we suggest that transferrins 2,and 4 are unlikely to play a major role in iron *** contrast,the transferrin 1 orthologs are predicted to be secreted,soluble,iron-binding *** conclude that transferrin 1 orthologs are the most likely to play an important role in iron ***,it appears that the louse,aphid,and thrips lineages have lost the transferrin 1 gene and,thus,have evolved to manage iron without transferrins.

Novel concepts in radiation-induced cardiovascular disease

Radiation-induced cardiovascular disease(RICVD) is the most common nonmalignant cause of morbidity and mortality among cancer survivors who have undergone mediastinal radiation therapy(RT).Cardiovascular complications include effusive or constrictive pericarditis,cardiomyopathy,valvular heart disease,and coronary/vascular *** are pathophysiologically distinct disease entities whose prevalence varies depending on the timing and extent of radiation exposure to the heart and great *** refinements in RT dosimetry and shielding will inevitably limit future cases of RICVD,the increasing number of long-term cancer survivors,including those treated with older higher-dose RT regimens,will ensure a steady flow of afflicted patients for the foreseeable ***,there is a pressing need for enhanced understanding of the disease mechanisms,and improved detection methods and treatment *** characterized mechanisms responsible for the establishment of chronic fibrosis,such as oxidative stress,inflammation and epigenetic modifications,are discussed and linked to potential treatments currently under *** imaging modalities may serve as powerful screening tools in RICVD,and recent research and expert opinion advocating their use is *** arguing for the aggressive use of percutaneous interventions,such as transcutaneous valve replacement and drug-eluting stents,are examined and considered in the context of prior therapeutic *** and its treatment options are the subject of a rich and dynamic body of research,and patients who are at risk or suffering from this disease will benefit from the care of physicians with specialty expertise in the emerging field of cardiooncology.
