Validity and reliability study of Turkish version on low vision with quality of life questionnaire

AIM:To adapt the low vision-related quality of life(LVQOL) instrument into Turkish language and to assess its validity and ***:The study was conducted in 387 patients attending the Centre of Low Vision Rehabilitation,Faculty of Medicine,Ankara *** statistical analyses,the Spearman's correlation coefficient,Cronbach's alpha coefficient and Confirmatory Factor Analysis(CFA) were ***:According to results of CFA,the item in the 'Adjustment' subscale because of having the factor loading below 0.40,was excluded from the *** reliability of the questionnaire was assessed according to Cronbach's alpha *** reliability of the 'Distance Vision,Mobility,and Lighting' subscale was ?琢=0.863;of the 'Adjustment' subscale was ?琢=0.694;'Reading and Fine Work' was ?琢=0.791,and 'Activities of Daily Living' was ?琢= *** these results indicate that the questionnaire is reliable to measure the vision related quality of life of low-vision *** correlations between the subscales were also analyzed,and the correlation between 'Adjustment' and 'Reading and Fine Work' was found to be the lowest(rs=0.336,P <0.001),whereas the strongest correlation was found between the 'Reading and Fine Work',and 'Activities of Daily Living'.Additionally,the 'Adjustment' dimension showed the strongest correlation with only 'Distance Vision,Mobility,and Lighting' ***:After removing the last item in the second dimension,the Turkish adaptation of all dimensions of the LVQOL has been shown to be reliable,valid and suitable for use in patients with low vision in Turkey.

Synthesis, physicochemical characterizations and catalytic performance of Pd/carbon-zeolite and Pd/carbon-Ce02 nanocatalysts used for total oxidation of xylene at low temperatures

In this work, xylene removal from waste gas streams was investigated via catalytic oxidation over Pd/ carbon-zeolite and Pd/carbon-CeO2 nanocatalysts. Acti- vated carbon was obtained from pine cone chemically activated using ZnC12 and modified by HaPO4. Natural zeolite of clinoptilolite was with HC1, while nano-ceria modified by acid treatment was synthesized via redox method. Mixed supports of carbon-zeolite and carbon- ceria were prepared and palladium was dispersed over them via impregnation method. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray emission scanning electron diffraction （XRD）, field microscopy （FESEM）, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area （BET）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR） and thermogravi- metric （TG） techniques. Characterization of nanocatalysts revealed a good morphology with an average particle size in a nano range, and confirmed the formation ofnano-ceria with an average crystallite size below 60 nm. BET analysis indicated a considerable surface area for catalysts （-1000 m^2·g^-1）. FTIR patterns demonstrated that the surface groups of synthesized catalysts are in good agreement with the patterns of materials applied in catalyst synthesis. The performance of catalysts was assessed in a low-pressure catalytic oxidation pilot in the temperature range of 100℃-250℃. According to the reaction data, the synthesized catalysts have been shown to be so advantageous in the removal of volatile organic compounds （VOCs）, represent- ing high catalytic performance of 98% for the abatement of xylene at 250℃. Furthermore, a reaction network is proposed for catalytic oxidation of xylene over nanocata- lysts.

Digital compass for multi-user beam access in mmWave cellular networks

Beamforming in stand-alone Millimeter-Wave(mmWave)communications results in prolonged access times and latencies due to the increased number of measurements required to determine the optimal beam directions at the Mobile Station(MS)and Base Station(BS),returning the highest received signal ***,dynamic and fast access schemes that meet the Third-Generation Partnership Project(3GPP)specifications are required ***,in this paper,a novel initial access scheme is proposed for multiple MS users by leveraging for the first time a digital compass in the access ***,when a new MS joins the footprint of a BS,it probes the channel for beacon signaling about the BS direction,i.e.,broadcasted by a neighboring MS that completed beam association at previous time ***,a digital compass is utilized to adjust the coordinates of the BS according to the location of the new *** proposed scheme is applied for a single and multi-user settings at various broadcasting *** includes a single associated MS user that broadcasts information to a single incoming MS user,a single user that broadcasts signals to multiple incoming users,or all multiple associated users broadcast to multiple incoming ***,the proposed schemes yield in notable efficiency in terms of the computational complexity,access times,power and energy consumption as compared to existing access ***,high success rates are achieved at the detriment of relatively higher cost.

The substitution box(S-box)is a fundamentally important component of symmetric key *** S-box is a primary source of non-linearity in modern block ciphers,and it resists the linear *** approaches have been adopted to construct S-boxes.S-boxes are commonly constructed over commutative and associative algebraic structures including Galois fields,unitary commutative rings and cyclic and non-cyclic finite *** this paper,first a non-associative ring of order 512 is obtained by using computational techniques,and then by this ring a triplet of 8×8 S-boxes is *** motivation behind the designing of these S-boxes is to upsurge the robustness and broaden the key space due to non-associative and noncommutative behavior of the algebraic structure under consideration.A novel color image encryption application is anticipated in which initially these 3 S-boxes are being used to produce confusion in three layers of a standard RGB ***,for the sake of diffusion 3D Arnold chaotic map is used in the proposed encryption scheme.A comparison with some of existing chaos and S-box dependent color image encryption schemes specs the performance results of the anticipated RGB image encryption and observed as approaching the standard prime level.

Effects of bee propolis supplementation on glycemic control, lipid profile and insulin resistance indices in patients with type 2 diabetes： a randomized, double-blind clinical trial

BACKGROUND： Propolis, a natural resinous substance made by bees from material extracted from plants, flowers and bee＇s wax, has shown great therapeutic effects and been widely used in food and drug industries. Recently, some researchers have studied the effect of this substance in the treatment of diabetes. OBJECTIVE： The purpose of this trial was to determine the effect of bee propolis on glycemic contro serum lipid profile and insulin resistance indices in patients with type 2 diabetes （T2D）. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS： This randomized clinical trial involved 66 patients with T2D, which were randomly divided into two groups of intervention （IG） and placebo （PG）. IG received 300 mg three times a day for a total of 900 mg/d of propolis pills, while PG received similar pills, lacking propolis, on the same schedule for 12 weeks. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Fasting blood glucose （FBG）, hemoglobin Alc （HbAlc）, total cholestero （TC）, low-density lipoprotein （LDL）, high-density lipoprotein （HDL）, triglyceride （TG）, serum insulin and insulin resistance indices were the main outcome measures. RESULTS： The mean change in FBG between the IG （（17.76 ±27.72） mg/dL decrease） and the PG （（6.48 ± 42.77） mg/dL increase） was significantly different （P = 0.01）. Change in mean HbAlc had a similar pattern to FBG. The mean change in TC between the IG （（5.16± 43.80） mg/dL increase） and the PG （（28.9 ± 27.4） mg/dL increase） was also significantly different （P = 0.01）, showing the protective role of propolis against the increase in TC. The change in mean LDL was similar to mean TC. There was no significant difference in other lipids or insulin resistance indices between the two groups. Coupling effect analysis of dam break flood spread and building collapse based on numerical simulation

Importance of antimicrobial susceptibility testing for the management of eradication in Helicobacter pylori infection

The management of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection treatment differs from the common treatment protocol for other infectious diseases. Because culture-or molecular-guided approaches face several practical issues, such as the invasive procedures required to obtain gastric biopsy specimens and the lack of availability of routine laboratory testing in some places, H. pylori treatment includes the administration of two or three empirically selected antibiotics combined with a proton pump inhibitor rather than evidence-based eradication treatment. The efficacy of empirical therapy is decreasing, mostly due to increasing multiple resistance. Multiresistance to levofloxacin, clarithromycin, and metronidazole, which are commonly used in empirical treatments, appears to have increased in many countries. Mutations play a primary role in the antimicrobial resistance of H. pylori, but many different mechanisms can be involved in the development of antibiotic resistance. Determining and understanding these possible mechanisms might allow the development of new methods for the detection of H. pylori and the determination of antimicrobial resistance. A treatment based on the detection of antimicrobial resistance is usually more effective than empirical treatment. Nevertheless, such an approach before treatment is still not recommended in the Maastricht guidelines due to the difficulty associated with the routine application of available cultureor molecular-based susceptibility tests, which are usually administered in cases of treatment failure. The management of first and rescue treatments requires further research due to the steadily increase in antimicrobial resistance.

Characteristics and clinical presentations of pediatric 0retinoblastoma in North-western Iran

·AIM:To report the characteristics and clinical presentations of retinoblastoma in a series of pediatric patients from Iran. ·METHODS:In this retrospective study, profiles of pediatric patients with retinoblastoma archived in a referral eye hospital in north-west of Iran during 7 years (n =40 patients with 57 eyes) were reviewed. Demographics, as well as the laterality, clinical manifestations and the types of treatment were the major endpoints. The Student’s t test, Mann-Whitney U -test, Chi-square or Fishers’ Exact test was used for analysis where appropriate. ·RESULTS:There were 23 cases (57.7%) with unilateral and 17 cases (42.5%) with bilateral involvement. The male to female ratio was 1 to 1.4 with a mean admitting age of 24.0±11.3 (range:5-62) months. The mean diagnosis delay was (7.4±9.6) months (range:10 days to 13 months). The most common presenting sign was leukocoria (97.5%) followed by proptosis (7.5%), strabismus (7.5%), hyphema (5%), orbital cellulitis (5%) and glaucoma (2.5%). Enucleation was performed in 95.7% of the cases with unilateral involvement and at least one eye of the patients with bilateral disease. A second enucleation was performed in other 3 patients (17.6%) of the latter group. ·CONCLUSION:This is the first study evaluating a series of Iranian children with retinoblastoma.
