The vanadium redox flow battery(VRFB)has been receiving great attention in recent years as one of the most viable energy storage technologies for large-scale ***,higher concentrations of vanadium species are required in the H_(2)O-H_(2)SO_(4) electrolyte in order to improve the VRFB energy *** might lead to unwanted precipitation of vanadium compounds,whose nature has not been accurately characterized *** this purpose,this study reports the preparation ofⅤ^((Ⅱ)),ⅤV^((Ⅲ)),Ⅴ^((Ⅳ))andⅤ^((Ⅴ))supersaturated solutions in a 5 M H_(2)SO_(4)-H_(2)O electrolyte by an electrolytic method,from the only vanadium sulfate compound commercially available(VOSO_(4)).The precipitates obtained by ageing of the stirred solutions are representative of the solids that may form in a VRFB operated with such supersaturated *** solid phases are identified using thermogravimetric analysis,X-ray diffraction and *** report that dissolvedⅤ^((Ⅱ)),Ⅴ^((Ⅲ))andⅤ^((Ⅳ))species precipitate as crystals of VSO_(4),V_(2)(SO_(4))3 and VOSO_(4) hydrates and not in their anhydrous form;conversely V^((Ⅴ))precipitates as an amorphous V_(2) O_(5) oxide partially *** measured hydration degrees(respectively 1.5,9,3 and 0.26 mol of H_(2)O per mol of compound)might significantly affect the overall engineering of VRFB operating with high vanadium concentrations.

Solid-state cooling based on caloric effects is considered a viable alternative to replace the conventional vapor-compression refrigeration *** barocaloric materials,recent results show that elastomers are promising candidates for cooling applications around *** the present paper,we report supergiant barocaloric effects observed in acetoxy silicone rubber—a very popular,low-cost and environmentally friendly *** values of adiabatic temperature change and reversible isothermal entropy change were obtained upon moderate applied pressures and relatively low *** huge barocaloric changes are associated both to the polymer chain rearrangements induced by confined compression and to the first-order structural *** results are comparable to the best barocaloric materials reported so far,opening encouraging prospects for the application of elastomers in near future solid-state cooling devices.

The B1 dam of Co rrego do Feij～ao Mine, owned by Vale, S.A. mining company and located on the FerroCarv～ao stream, collapsed and injected 2.8 Mm3of clayey, silty, and sandy iron-and manganese-rich tailings into the Paraopeba River(Minas Gerais state, Brazil). The accident occurred on 25 January2019 and the tailings have been co-transported with coarser natural sediment since then, being partly trapped in the Igarape Weir reservoir located on the Paraopeba River nearly 45 km downstream the injection point. The general purpose of the current study was to model suspended sediment transport in the vicinity of the Igarape Weir aiming to assess the concomitant barrier effect imposed by this ***, the spatial distributions of suspended clay, silt, and very fine-grained sand fractions(CSS) of sediment were mapped around the Igarape Weir under low-flow(16 m3/s) and high-flow(5 to 10,000years return period stream discharge; 699—2,699 m3/s) regimes, using RiverFlow2D as the modelling tool. The concentrations of the various grain materials in the upstream and downstream sectors were quantified linking the barrier effect to concentration reductions in the direction of stream flow. It was also a study goal to calculate differences of iron and manganese concentrations in the sediment + tailings mixtures along the Paraopeba River. The study results showed reductions in the CSS between 6.6% and18%, from upstream to downstream of the Igarape Weir, related with backwater effects, free and submerged hydraulic jumps, bank sedimentation in periods of high flow, and streambed sedimentation controlled by channel sinuosity and tailings density. These reductions were accompanied by drops in the concentrations of iron and manganese present in the clay and silt fractions, which varied between 6% and42% under low flows and between 16% and 44% under high flows. Objective:To evaluate the correlation between glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase(G6PD) deficiency and neonatal ***:Prospective,observational case-control study was conducted on 490 newborns admitted to Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre for phototherapy, who all experienced 35 or more weeks of gestation,from March to December *** screening of G6PD activity was performed,followed by ***:There was prevalence of 4.6% and a boy-girl ratio of 3:1 in jaundiced *** jaundiced neonate with ABO incompatibility presented G6PD deficiency,and no Mediterranean mutation was found.A higher proportion of deficiency was observed in *** was no association with UGT1A1 variants. Bifurcaria bifurcata is a seaweed of the Order Fucales(Ochrophyta,Phaeophyceae)that can be found all year round along the Portuguese Atlantic *** it is considered edible in some countries,its biotechnological potential has not yet been assessed in detail and here we report its antimicrobial potential against human dermatophyte *** samples were harvested from Baleal Island(Peniche,Portugal)harvested in winter(BbPe);from Aguda Beach(Arcozelo,Vila Nova de Gaia,Portugal),harvested in autumn(BbAg)and a sample obtained by culturing the Aguda sample under laboratory conditions(BbLC).A broth macrodilution assay was applied to determine the MIC(minimum inhibitory concentration)and MLC(minimum lethal concentration)of the *** *** show that the BbPe MeOH extracts were the most effective and had higher antifungal activity against all the tested dermatophyte strains than the BbLC and BaAg extracts[Epidermophyton floccosum FF9(100–200μg/mL MIC;200μg/mL MLC),Microsporum canis FF1(400μg/mL MIC;≥400μg/mL MLC),Trichophyton mentagrophytes FF7(100μg/mL MIC;>800μg/mL MLC),*** CECT 2908(800μg/mL MIC;≥800μg/mL MLC),*** *** CECT 2958(800μg/mL MIC;≥800μg/mL MLC),*** CECT 2794(200μg/mL MIC;≥400μg/mL MLC)].In fact,only *** FF9 was sensitive to BbAg and BbLC MeOH *** our knowledge,this is the first report of antifungal activity of *** against human dermatophyte fungi.

The formation and evolution of cosmic string wakes in the framework of a f(R) theory of gravity are investigated in this work. We consider a simple model in which baryonic matter flows past a cosmic string. We treat this problem in the Zel’dovich approximation. We compare our results with previous results obtained in the context of General Relativity and Scalar-Theories of Gravity.

This study investigated the action of proteolytic enzymes in the production of goat viscera hydrolysates,and their flavoring *** study focus the production of flavor precursor molecules and the formation of volatile compounds resulting from four hydrolysis treatments:HA-Alcalase®,HF-Flavourzyme®,HN-Neutrase®,and HFN-Flavourzyme® and Neutrase®.The highest degree of hydrolysis (26.74%),number (23 volatiles) and concentration of volatile compounds (274.0 μg/L) were obtained with the action of *** main classes of volatile compounds identified in hydrolysates included acids,aldehydes,pyrazines,terpenes and Streacker *** acids,sugars and fatty acids were identified with higher concentrations in HF and HFN hydrolysates due to the low participation of these precursors in the formation of volatile ***,the use of Alcalase in the proteolysis of goat viscera stood out compared to other enzymes,providing impacting aroma compounds,such as pyrazines,for meat flavor.

Emerging and re-emerging human infectious diseases:A systematic review of the role of wild animals with a focus on public health impact

Infectious diseases continue to impose unpredictable burdens on global health and economies, a subject that requires constant research and updates. In this sense, the objective of the present article was to review studies on the role of wild animals as reservoirs and/or dispersers of etiological agents of human infectious diseases in order to compile data on the main wild animals and etiological agents involved in zoonotic outbreaks. A systematic review was carried out using PRISMA guidelines, using the PubMed, Scopus and SciELO platforms as data banks. The descriptors used were "zoonosis", "human infectious diseases" and "wild animals". The results show that wild animals(mainly bats, birds and primates) play an important role in the dissemination of etiological agents(mainly viruses, as a new coronavirus called 2019 Novel Coronavirus) in extensive geographic regions. Moreover, these wild animal organisms can act as the site for essential biotic synergy among several pathogenic microorganisms, promoting a higher rate of adaptation, mutation and even genetic recombination, with consequent stimulation of new strains and subtypes, inducing new infectious agents with unknown virulent potential. In conclusion, the monitoring of these diseases and adequate preparation for possible epidemics and pandemics are fundamental conditions for the mitigation of their future impact. The zoonotic threat of these etiological agents and the impact on public health can be enormous as shown by the ongoing epidemic of 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV) infections.

Healthcare Professionals’ Adherence to Contact Precautions at a Maternal and Child Teaching Hospital

Background: Healthcare-associated infections affect hundreds of millions of patients worldwide. Children have greater susceptibility to healthcare-associated infections due to the immaturity of their immune system. Contact precautions aim to promote safety, protection and prevention of contamination. Thus, the objective of this study was to verify adherence to contact precaution measures, as well as compliance to the use of personal protective equipment. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study was carried out from July to October 2019 using a checklist to evaluate health professionals’ adherence to hand hygiene procedures and the use of gloves and surgical gowns when assisting children on contact precautions. Results: A total of 941 observations were carried out in a total of 300.532 hours. Hand hygiene was performed before and after contact with the patient in 58.84% and 75.09% of the cases, respectively and a surgical gown was used in 86.40% of the cases. The use of gloves was the variable most adhered to by professionals (87.57%). Intensive care unit professionals were the care workers who most complied with the regulation regarding hand hygiene after contact with the patient (p = 0.009) and the use of the surgical gown (p < 0.001). The correct hand hygiene technique was the recommendation with least adherence. Non-compliance to the hand hygiene technique was statistically significant among intensive care unit professionals (p = 0.002). Conclusions: Adherence to hand hygiene before contact with the patient and compliance with the hand hygiene technique were neglected by most professionals. However, there was good adherence to the use of surgical gloves and gowns, as well as high compliance to the techniques of removing these items. .
