Classification of yield affecting biotic and abiotic paddy crop stresses using field images

On-time recognition and early control of the stresses in the paddy crops at the booting growth stage is the key to prevent qualitative and quantitative loss of agricultural *** conventional paddy crop stress identification and classification activities invariably rely on human experts to identify visual symptoms as a means of *** process is admittedly subjective and error-prone,which in turn may lead to incorrect action in stress management *** proposed work presented in this paper aims to develop an automated computer vision system for the recognition and classification of paddy crop stress types from the field images using the state-of-the-art color *** work examines the impact of eleven stress types,two biotic and nine abiotic stresses,on five different paddy crop varieties during the booting growth stage using field images and analyzes the stress responses in terms of color variations using lower-order color moments and two visual color descriptors defined by the MPEG-7 standard,the Dominant Color Descriptor(DCD)and Color Layout Descriptor(CLD).The Sequential Forward Floating Selection(SFFS)algorithm has been employed to reduce the overlapping between the *** different classifiers,the Back Propagation Neural Network(BPNN),the Support Vector Machine(SVM),and the k-Nearest Neighbor(k-NN)have been deployed to distinguish among stress *** average stress classification accuracies of 89.12%,84.44%and 76.34%have been achieved using the BPNN,SVM,and k-NN classifiers,*** proposed work finds application in the development of decision support systems and mobile apps for the automation of crop and resource management practices in the field of agricultural science.

Effect of different geometrical non-uniformities on nonlinear vibration of porous functionally graded skew plates: A finite element study

This article presents the investigation of nonlinear vibration analysis of tapered porous functionally graded skew(TPFGS)plate considering the effects of geometrical non-uniformities to optimize the thickness in the structural *** TPFGS plate is analyzed considering linearly,bi-linearly,and exponentially varying *** plate’s effective material properties are tailor-made using a modified power-law distribution in which gradation varies along the thickness direction of the TPFGS *** the non-linear finite element formulation to develop the kinematic equation’s displacement model for the TPFGS plate is based on the first-order shear deformation theory(FSDT)in conjunction with von Karman’s *** nonlinear governing equations are established by Hamilton’s *** direct iterative method is adopted to solve the nonlinear mathematical relations to obtain the nonlinear *** influence of the porosity distributions and porosity parameter indices on the nonlinear frequency responses of the TPFGS plate for different skew angles and variable thicknesses are studied for various geometrical *** influence of taper ratio,variable thickness,skewness,porosity distributions,gradation,and boundary conditions on the plate’s nonlinear vibration is *** nonlinear frequency analysis reveals that the geometrical nonuniformities and porosities significantly influence the porous functionally graded plates with varying thickness than the uniform ***,exponentially and linearly variable thicknesses can be considered for the thickness optimizations of TPFGS plates in the structural design.

Numerical modelling of reinforced concrete flexural members strengthened using textile reinforced mortars

Externally bonded(EB)and near-surface mounted(NSM)bonding are two widely adopted and researched strengthening methods for reinforced-concrete *** composite substrates are easy to reach and repair using appropriate surface treatments,whereas NSM techniques can be easily applied to the soffit and concrete member *** EB bonded fiber-reinforced polymer(FRP)technique has a significant drawback:combustibility,which calls for external protective agents,and textile reinforced mortar(TRM),a class of EB composites that is noncombustible and provides a similar functionality to any EB FRP-strengthened *** study employs a finite element analysis technique to investigate the failing failure of carbon textile reinforced mortar(CTRM)-strengthened reinforced concrete *** principal objective of this numerical study was to develop a finite element model and validate a set of experimental data in existing literature.A set of seven beams was modelled and calibrated to obtain concrete damage plasticity(CDP)*** predicted results,which were in the form of load versus deflection,load versus rebar strain,tensile damage,and compressive damage patterns,were in good agreement with the experimental ***,a parametric study was conducted to verify the applicability of the numerical model and study various influencing factors such as the concrete strength,internal reinforcement,textile roving spacing,and externally-applied load *** ultimate load and deflection of the predicted finite element results had a coefficient of variation(COV)of 6.02%and 5.7%,respectively.A strain-based numerical comparison with known methods was then conducted to investigate the debonding *** developed finite element model can be applied and tailored further to explore similar TRM-strengthened beams undergoing debonding,and the preventive measures can be sought to avoid premature debonding.

Power system reconfiguration and loss minimization for a distribution systems using ＂Catfish PSO＂ algorithm

One of the very important ways to save electrical energy in the distribution system is network reconfiguration for loss reduction. Distribution networks are built as interconnected mesh networks; however, they are arranged to be radial in operation. The distribution feeder reconfiguration is to find a radial operating structure that optimizes network performance while satisfying operating constraints. The change in network configuration is performed by opening sectionalizing （normally closed） and closing tie （normally opened） switches of the network. These switches are changed in such a way that the radial structure of networks is maintained, all of the loads are energized, power loss is reduced, power quality is enhanced, and system security is increased. Distribution feeder reconfiguration is a complex nonlinear combinator- ial problem since the status of the switches is non- differentiable. This paper proposes a new evolutionary algorithm （EA） for solving the distribution feeder reconfiguration （DFR） problem for a 33-bus and a 16- bus sample network, which effectively ensures the loss minimization.

Analysis of soil management and water conservation practices adoption among crop and pasture farmers in humid-south of the United States

Nutrient management, water quality protection, and irrigation efficiency top the list of on-farm resource concerns indicating a need to address them through conservation strategies. A suite of Best Management Practices (BMPs) has been identified and recommended, through several outlets, to farmers to ameliorate these concerns. This research examines the adoption of strategies that ameliorate the resource concerns as a joint decision, using a bivariate model. Data from the 2016 Nutrient Management Survey, conducted by the Louisiana Master Farmer Program, are used to examine the factors affecting adoption of these conservation practices. A bivariate probit regression found significant results for explanatory variables and emphasize the effect of perception regarding the role of on-farm practices, ownership of land, participation in conservation programs in the past, and producers educational attainment on the like-lihood of adopting the conservation practices. Implications for policy development and educational programs are discussed.
