IBIS-FM radar as a tool for monitoring hill slopes during excavations in hydropower projects:A case study from Bhutan Himalayas

Excavation is common in the construction of hydropower *** for both stable and unstable slopes is a pressing requirement during progressive excavations with or without cut-slope support *** present study is about an excavation carried out in a proposed concrete gravity dam site on the right bank slope of the Punatsangchhu River in western *** the excavation,the right bank abutment witnessed multiple events of slope failures of various *** major landslide occurred on 23 July 2013 in the toe of the right abutment,where foliation/multiple sheared/fractured zones/seams in quartz-feldspathic biotite gneiss dip towards the *** further excavations/piling works,a subsequent landslide on the downstream,within the body of the July 2013 landslide,occurred on 12 August *** a result,a real-time monitoring of the slope became necessary to facilitate further excavations for achieving the dam ***,the advanced slope monitoring instrument like Image By Interferometric Survey e Frequency Modulated(IBIS-FM)radar was deployed for monitoring the right bank slope during the excavation for the construction of~129 m high *** displacement of the hill slope is assessed based on this system by monitoring point locations as well as areas by assigning different threshold values for providing timely *** real-time monitoring was effective in identifying the reactivation of August 2016 landslide that occurred on 22 January ***,this study showcases the efficiency of IBIS-FM radar in monitoring slope instability with sub-millimeter accuracy on a near real-time basis.

The agriculture sector is no exception to the widespread usage of deep learning tools and *** this paper,an automated detection method on the basis of pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)models is proposed to identify and classify paddy crop biotic stresses from the field *** proposed work also provides the empirical comparison among the leading CNN models with transfer learning from the ImageNet weights namely,Inception-V3,VGG-16,ResNet-50,DenseNet-121 and *** spot,hispa,and leaf blast,three of the most common and destructive paddy crop biotic stresses that occur during the flowering and ripening growth stages are considered for the *** experimental results reveal that the ResNet-50 model achieves the highest average paddy crop stress classification accuracy of 92.61%outperforming the other considered CNN *** study explores the feasibility of CNN models for the paddy crop stress identification as well as the applicability of automated methods to non-experts.

The usage of Swietenia mahagoni, a popular medicinal plant in India and some African countries, dates back to ancient times for its curative properties in diseases like malaria, diabetes, and diarrhea. It is also used as an anti-pyretic, bitter tonic and astringent. Its pharmacological activities are being widely explored. Although many important groups of phytochemicals have been identified and isolated from various parts of the plant, most of these researches have been focused on seeds. Toxicological studies have established the safety of many of these plant extracts, and found insignificant side effects. Here we present a comprehensive review of all the pharmacological effects and constituent phytochemicals of the plant.

Introduction:Injecting drug use is a public health concern due to its clinical,social,economic,and legal ***:(1)To evaluate the prevalence of infections associated with injecting drug use;and(2)To assess the social profile of substance users and high-risk behaviors among people who inject drugs(PWID)receiving opioid substitution therapy(OST).Materials and Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted among 100 PWID who were deemed eligible using inclusion and exclusion *** were collected through an interviewer-administered structured questionnaire after obtaining informed written ***:The results revealed that 14%of PWID had human immunodeficiency virus(HIV),7%had tuberculosis,and 2%had hepatitis B virus(HBV).None of the PWID self-reported hepatitis C virus(HCV)***,71%of PWID were living on the streets(***),and 41%of PWID had a history of sharing needles with other users in the preceding 3 *** or single PWID had significantly increased risk of homelessness(χ^(2)=4.570;P=0.032)and reported high-risk sexual practices with commercial sexual partners in the preceding 3 months(χ^(2)=4.163;P=0.041).Homeless PWID had significantly increased frequency of injecting practices(P=0.020).Conclusion:Despite the higher global prevalence of HCV compared with HBV and HIV among PWID,HCV testing is not currently conducted at most OST centers in *** to free needles and syringes should be enhanced to reduce the morbidity associated with injecting drug use.

Dyes are an integral part of the dying industry and have significantly resulted in environmental pollution by altering the standardwater quality after their discharge into the water *** culprits behind the altered water quality are the pretreatment chemicals used during dying manufacturing *** advanced treatmentmethods using conventional and advanced treatment options including solar energy have been put forth by researchers for the treatment of the dying effluents but,these methods have not proved significantly ***,the present study intends to check the efficiency of solar parabolic trough collector for treating the dying effluents in terms of color and ***,other wastewater parameters(BOD,nitrate and phosphate)have also been considered for this experimental *** standard flow rates(0.5,1.3,1.95 and 2.6 L/M)were maintained during the experiment for six hours at solar intensity(849.3±21.2W/m^(2))and the optimized flow rate(1.95 L/M)was detected and considered for further study during the present *** color concentration showed a significant reduction(≥76.4%)by treatment with the designed solar *** significant results were also noticed in terms of COD(79%).In this context,the current experimental study provides ideas on the decolorization and COD reduction efficiency with optimal flow rate in terms of cost-effectiveness with designed experimental reactor which could be further used and implemented for advanced scientific purposes.

Even though vaccines against rabies are available,rabies still remains a burden killing a significant number of humans as well as domestic and wild animals in many parts of the world,including *** this study,we develop a mathematical model to describe transmission dynamics of rabies in *** particular,an indirect interspecies transmission from jackals to humans through dogs,which is relevant to the context of Nepal,is one of the novel features of our *** model utilizes annual dog-bite data collected from Nepal for a decade long period,allowing us to reasonably estimate parameters related to rabies transmission in *** our model,we calculated the basic reproduction number(R_(0)=1:16)as well as intraspecies basic reproduction numbers of dogs(R_(0)^(D)=1:14)and jackals(R_(0)^(J)=0:07)for Nepal,and identified that the dog-related parameters are primary contributors to *** results show that,along with dogs,jackals may also play an important role,albeit lesser extent,in the persistence of rabies in *** model also suggests that control strategies may help reduce the prevalence significantly but the jackal vaccination may not be as effective as dog-related preventive *** get deeper insight into the role of intraspecies and interspecies transmission between dog and jackal populations in the persistence of rabies,we also extended our model analysis into a wider parameter ***,for some feasible parameters,even though rabies is theoretically controlled in each dog and jackal populations(R_(0)^(D)1)due to interspecies *** results may be useful to design effective prevention and control strategies for mitigating rabies burden in Nepal and other parts of the world.

Wrestling as an Olympic sport has been around since the dawn of modem Olympic games and India is a participating nation in it. Wrestling has unique position among Olympic disciplines in India, from being provider of first individual medal to newly independent nation to lately becoming most significant contributor in medal tally. This coming of age of Indian wrestling team with double medal tally in the last Olympics has been outcome of long and steady journey of Indian wrestling team over a period of 40-50 years and numerous Summer Olympic Games. However, this journey of Indian wrestling team in the Olympics is also a stoW of significant twist and turn, near misses and also of glow. So this article covers the entire saga of Indian wrestlers at highest sporting event of world--Olympic Games, from inception of first Indian team of mere three grapplers to latest Olympics with debut of first Indian female grappler in Olympic arena. This history is written by sweat and hard work of Indian grapplers with its own highs and lows.
