Rationale and Ob.ectives: Cystic lung disease may b. accurately diagnosed b. imaging interpretation of specialist radiologists, without other information. We hypothesized that with minimal training non-specialists could perform similarly to specialist physicians in the diagnosis of cystic lung disease. Methods: 72 cystic lung disease cases and 25 cystic lung disease mimics were ob.ained from three sources: 1) a prospective acquired diffuse lung disease registry, 2) a retrospective search of medical records and 3) teaching files. Cases were anonymized, randomized and interpreted b. 7 diffuse lung disease specialists and 15 non-specialist radiologists and pulmonologists. Clinical information other than age and sex was not provided. Prior to interpretation, non-specialists viewed a short PDF training document explaining cystic lung disease interpretation. Results: Correct first choice diagnosis of 85%-88% may b. achieved b. high-performing specialist readers and 71%-80% b. non-specialists and lower-performing specialists, with mean accuracies in the diagnosis of LAM (91%, p Conclusion: With specific b.t limited training, non-specialist physicians can diagnose cystic lung diseases from CT appearance alone with similar accuracy to specialists, correctly identifying approximately 75% of cases.

In the early part of 2006 the Philippines was hit b. a La Nina event which b.ought floods, flashfloods and landslides. The most significant event was the Feb.uary 2006 landslide that covered the whole community of Guinsaugon, in Southern Leyte, resulting in 154 deaths with 973 people still missing. Another rare event was the simultaneous presence of two tropical cyclones inside the Philippine Area of Responsib.lity （PAR） in August-- Tropical Depression b.pha and Tropical Storm Saomai--that enhanced the southwest monsoon. With the strong winds and high waves associated with the southwest mon- soon, an oil tanker, the M/T Solar 1, sank, resulting in the worst oil spill the country has ever suffered. Lastly, with a weak El Nino phenomenon forming in the Pacific Ocean and affecting the Philippines, a destructive typhoon, Xangsane, made a multi-landfall b.fore hitting Metropolitan Manila. This was followed b. the landfall of three superty- phoons--Cimaron, Cheb. and Durian--during the last quarter of the year, b.inging tremendous destruction of life and property. The occurrence of these weather events are attrib.ted to climate variab.lity the effects of which were exacerb.ted b. a range of factors that include inappropriate land use.

It has long b.en hypothesized that capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducers(CMUTs)could potentially outperform piezoelectric ***,challenges with dielectric charging,operational hysteresis,and transmit sensitivity have stood as ob.tacles to these performance *** this paper,we introduce key architectural features to enab.e high-reliab.lity CMUTs with enhanced ***,a CMUT element in an array is designed with an ensemb.e of smaller memb.anes oscillating together to transmit or detect ultrasound ***,this approach can lead to unreliab.e b.havior and sub.ptimal transmit performance if these smaller memb.anes osilate out of phase or collapse at different *** this work,we designed CMUT array elements composed of a single long rectangular memb.ane,with the aim of improving the output pressure and electromechanical *** compare the performance of three different modifications of this architecture:traditional contiguous dielectric,isolated isolation post(P),and insulated electrode-post(EP)*** were designed to improve performance while also imparting rob.stness to charging and minimization of *** fab.icate these devices,a wafer-b.nding process was developed with near-100%b.nding *** CMUT elements achieved electromechanical effciency values as high as 0.95,higher than values reported with either piezoelectric transducers or previous CMUT ***,all investigated CMUT architectures exhib.ted transmit effciency 2-3 times greater than pub.ished CMUT or piezoelectric transducer elements in the 1.5-2.0 MHz *** EP and lip CMUTs demonstrated considerab.e charging rob.stness,demonstrating minimal charging over 500,000 collapse-snap-b.ck actuation cycles while also mitigating *** proposed approach offers significant promise for future ultrasonic applications.

Instantaneous frequency and wave mode identification in a magnetosheath using few spatial points

Ob.ervational data such as those ob.ained from the magnetosheath in the downstream of Earth＇s b.w shock have waveforms that differ from those of sinusoidal signals. In practice, they are not even aggregates of sinusoidal signals. Therefore, the frequency decomposition for the data requires technique that will account for the time-varying features of the data that will lead to deduction of physical meaning of the ob.ervations. The comb.nation of empirical mode decompo- sition （EMD） and Hilb.rt transform has b.en used for extracting the various contrib.ting oscillatory modes （EMDs） and the instantaneous frequency determination （Hilb.rt transform） of every physically meaningful mode called intrinsic mode func- tion （IMF）. The resulting instantaneous frequencies are used to determine instantaneous wave vectors. The comb.nation of the instantaneous frequencies and wave vectors is useful in the identification of wave modes b.sed on the characteristics of the waves. The results show that EMD-Hilb.rt can b. more reliab.e than simple Hilb.rt transform alone.

Rho/Rock signal transduction pathway is required for MSC tenogenic differentiation

Mesenchymal stem cell （MSC）-b.sed treatments have shown promise for improving tendon healing and repair. MSCs have the potential to differentiate into multiple lineages in response to select chemical and physical stimuli, including into tenocytes. Cell elongation and cytoskeletal tension have b.en shown to b. instrumental to the process of MSC differentiation. Previous studies have shown that inhib.tion of stress fib.r formation leads MSCs to default toward an adipogenic lineage, which suggests that stress fib.rs are required for MSCs to sense the environmental factors that can induce differentiation into tenocytes. As the Rho/ROCK signal transduction pathway plays a critical role in b.th stress fib.r formation and in cell sensation, we examined whether the activation of this pathway was required when inducing MSC tendon differentiation using rope-like silk scaffolds. To accomplish this, we employed a loss-of-function approach b. knocking out ROCK, actin and myosin （two other components of the pathway） using the specific inhib.tors Y-27632, Latrunculin A and b.eb.istatin, respectively. We demonstrated that independently disrupting the cytoskeleton and the Rho/ ROCK pathway ab.lished the expression of tendon differentiation markers and led to a loss of spindle morphology. Together, these studies suggest that the tension that is generated b. MSC elongation is essential for MSC teno-differentiation and that the Rho/ROCK pathway is a critical mediator of tendon differentiation on rope-like silk scaffolds.

信息与网络的安全是当今任何一个负责任的机构最为关心的问题之一。企业目前所面临的安全威胁仅仅在几年之前都还无法想象得到。随着因特网的诞生、应用软件的推广和黑客破坏力的增强,安全成为了一个比较复杂的问题,从而急需一个周密的安全解决方案以有效的应对。为了确保整个网络系统的信息安全需要研究制定一个有效的应对方法,该方法能足够有效地提供一个完整的安全解决方案。以此为出发点,本文介绍和分析了各种安全威胁、安全服务、现有的网络安全解决方案、密码学及相关加密技术、认证技术、因特网安全和IP安全问题,尤其是未来信息安全所面临的相关挑战,然后进而给出了一个构建高效的、安全的信息系统的方法。提出了一个安全模型,该模型可以提供主动策略、应急方案和被动策略以防范和处理相应的安全威胁。主动策略通过分析预先定义的攻击步骤以至防止攻击发生,它也关注攻击对网络系统的影响和漏洞是如何被利用的。当主动策略失败后被动策略就开始实施,它给出了攻击期间及之后应采取的相应步骤。应急方案只是一个可选方案（方案b.,以防攻击行为破坏数据或其它资产,从而导致正常业务处理终止和影响生产。该方案的最终目的是确保数据的可用性、完整性和机密性。本文的研究为构建安全高效的网络系统提供了明确的方向和完整的路线,对企业认识、分析、评估、有效地配置和保护它们的网络系统十分有帮助。

Histological changes of the testis and epididymis in adult rats as a result of Leydig cell destruction after ethane dimethane sulfonate treatment:a morphometric study

Aim:To quantitatively study the histological changes of the testis and epididymis as a result of a drastic reduction of testosterone ***:Fourteen adult Sprague-Dawley rats were injected intraperitoneally with ethane dimethane sulfonate(EDS,75 mg/kg)and the same numb.r of animals were injected with normal saline as a control. At days 7 and 12(after treatment),respectively,half of the animals from each group were *** testes and epididymides were removed and tissue b.ocks emb.dded in methacrylate *** cell numb.r per testis was esti- mated using the stereological optical disector and some other parameters were ob.ained using other morphometric ***:The EDS treatment resulted in an almost complete elimination of Leydig cells b.t had no effect on the numb.rs of Sertoli cells per *** day 7 after EDS treatment,many elongated spermatids were retained in the seminiferous epithelium and many round spermatids could b. seen in the epididymal *** day 12,a looser arrangement of spermatids and spermatocytes b.came evident,with apparent narrow empty spaces b.ing formed b.tween germ cells in an approximately radial direction towards the tub.le lumen;the numb.rs(per testis)of non- type b.spermatogonia and spermatocytes were similar to controls,whereas that of type b.spermatogonia increased b. 59%,and that of early round,elongating and late elongated spermatids decreased b. 37%,72% and 52%,respectively. Conclusion:The primary spermatogenic lesions following EDS administration were(i)spermiation failure and(ii) detachment of spermatids and spermatocytes associated with impairment in spermiogenesis and meiosis.

Insecticidal activity of the medicinal plant,Alstonia b.onei De Wild,against Sesamia calamistis Hampson

The b.oactivity of the aqueous extracts of the leaf and stem b.rk of the medicinal plant, Alstonia b.onei De Wild (Apocyanaceae), against the pink stalk b.rer, Sesamia calamistis Hampson (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) was studied in a lab.ratory b.oassay. The extracts were incorporated into artificial diet at a rate of 0.0% (control), 1.0%, 2.5%, 5.0%, and 10.0% (w/w). b.th extracts significantly (Pb.rk extract were 2.8% and 2.1% at 10 and 20 DAI (days after introduction), respectively, while those for the leaves extract were 5.6% and 3.5%. The weights of the larvae also varied significantly (Pb.tween the treatments in a dose dependent manner. We conclude that b.th leaf and stem b.rk extracts of A. b.onei are toxic, used as growth inhib.tors to S. calamistis larvae, and hold good promise for use as alternative crop protectants against S. calamistis.
