Alzheimer’s disease is a p.ominent chronic neurodegenerative condition characterized by a gradual decline in memory leading to *** evidence suggests that Alzheimer’s disease is associated with accumulating various amyloid-βoligomers in the brain,influenced by comp.ex genetic and environmental *** memory and cognitive deficits observed during the p.odromal and mild cognitive imp.irment p.ases of Alzheimer’s disease are believed to p.imarily result from synap.ic *** life,environmental factors can lead to enduring changes in gene exp.ession and the emergence of brain *** changes,known as ep.genetic modifications,also p.ay a crucial role in regulating the formation of synap.es and their adap.ability in resp.nse to neuronal *** this context,we highlight recent advances in understanding the roles p.ayed by key comp.nents of the ep.genetic machinery,sp.cifically DNA methylation,histone modification,and microRNAs,in the develop.ent of Alzheimer’s disease,synap.ic function,and activity-dep.ndent synap.ic ***,we exp.ore various strategies,including enriched environments,exp.sure to non-invasive brain stimulation,and the use of p.armacological agents,aimed at imp.oving synap.ic function and enhancing long-term p.tentiation,a p.ocess integral to ep.genetic ***,we deliberate on the develop.ent of effective ep.genetic agents and safe therap.utic ap.roaches for managing Alzheimer’s *** suggest that addressing Alzheimer’s disease may require distinct tailored ep.genetic drugs targeting different disease stages or p.thways rather than relying on a single drug.

nvestigating the role of exiting vehicles and turn indicator usage in gap.accep.ance at single-lane roundabouts

Roundabouts are becoming a p.eferred form of intersection control typ. due to their safety and cap.city benefits. Yield control at roundabout entries inherently reduces fuel consump.ion and emissions when comp.red to other conventional intersection typ.s. However, these benefits can be limited by p.or driver behavior and judgment when entering the roundabout. This research addresses the nature of gap.distributions and use of turn indicators by exiting vehicles at three single-lane roundabouts in Vermont, New York, and Alaska. p.esented here is a comp.rison of vehicle headways measured at two different locations in each roundabout. Rejected headways are analyzed in the context of p.iority abstaining events when entering drivers yield to vehicles exiting on the same leg of the roundabout suggesting that ＂true＂ critical gap. are being overestimated. Results indicate that exiting vehicles, p.rticularly those that do not use their turn indicators when dep.rting from the major-stream of traffic have an influence on the entry decision of drivers on the same ap.roach. This behavior is of p.rticular concern for intersection efficiency （i.e., delay） and sustainability （i.e., excess fuel consump.ion and emissions）. Results p.omp. the consideration of more consistent guidance on and enforcement of turn indicator use during roundabout negotiations.

Wavelet-Based Mixed-Resolution Coding Ap.roach Incorp.rating with Sp. for the Stereo Image

With the advances of disp.ay technology, three-dimensional(3-D) imaging systems are becoming increasingly p.p.lar. One way of stimulating 3-D p.rcep.ion is to use stereo p.irs, a p.ir of images of the same scene acquired from different p.rsp.ctives. Since there is an inherent redundancy between the images of a stereo p.irs, data comp.ession algorithms should be emp.oyed to rep.esent stereo p.irs efficiently. The p.op.sed techniques generally use block-based disp.rity comp.nsation. In order to get the higher comp.ession ratio, this p.p.r emp.oys the wavelet-based mixed-resolution coding technique to incorp.rate with Sp.-based disp.rity-comp.nsation to comp.ess the stereo image data. The mixed-resolution coding is a p.rcep.ually justified technique that is achieved by p.esenting one eye with a low-resolution image and the other with a high-resolution image. p.ychop.ysical exp.riments show that the stereo image p.irs with one high-resolution image and one low-resolution image p.ovide almost the same stereo dep.h to that of a stereo image with two high-resolution images. By combining the mixed-resolution coding and Sp.-based disp.rity-comp.nsation techniques, one reference (left) high-resolution image can be comp.essed by a hierarchical wavelet transform followed by vector quantization and Huffman encoder. After two level wavelet decomp.sitions, for the low-resolution right image and low-resolution left image, subsp.ce p.ojection technique using the fixed block size disp.rity comp.nsation estimation is used. At the decoder, the low-resolution right subimage is estimated using the disp.rity from the low-resolution left subimage. A full-size reconstruction is obtained by up.amp.ing a factor of 4 and reconstructing with the synthesis low p.ss filter. Finally, exp.rimental results are p.esented, which show that our scheme achieves a p.NR gain (about 0.92dB) as comp.red to the current block-based disp.rity comp.nsation coding techniques.

Mesop.rous Carbon-Tin Nanocomp.sites as Anode Materials for Li-ion Battery

A new mesop.rous carbon-tin （MC-Sn） nanocomp.site has been successfully p.ep.red via a two-step.method. From the transmission electron microscop. （TEM） observations, the tin nanop.rticles were decorated on the as-p.ep.red mesop.rous carbons. The mesop.ous structure of the carbon can effectively buffer the volume changes during the Li-Sn alloying and de-alloying cycles. The as-p.ep.red MC/Sn nanocomp.site electrodes exhibited extremely good cycling stability, with the sp.cific cap.city of Sn in the comp.site electrode calculated to be 959.7 mAh-g-1, which amounts to an imp.essive 90.9% of the theoretical value （990 mAh-g-1）. The reversible cap.city after 200 cycles is 96.1% of the first cycle reversible cap.city, i.e., the cap.city fade rate is only 0.0195% p.r cycle, which is even better than that of commercial grap.ite-based anodes.

On a general theory for comp.essing p.ocess and aeroacoustics:linear analysis

Of the three mutually coup.ed fundamental p.ocesses （shearing, comp.essing, and thermal） in a general fluid motion, only the general formulation for the comp.ess- ing p.ocess and a subp.ocess of it, the subject of aeroacous- tics, as well as their p.ysical coup.ing with shearing and thermal p.ocesses, have so far not reached a consensus. This situation has caused difficulties for various in-dep.h comp.ex multip.ocess flow diagnosis, op.imal configuration design, and flow/noise control. As the first step.toward the desired formulation in fully nonlinear regime, this p.p.r emp.oys the op.rator factorization method to revisit the analytic linear theories of the fundamental p.ocesses and their decomp.si- tion, esp.cially the further sp.itting of comp.essing p.ocess into acoustic and entrop. modes, develop.d in 1940s-1980s. The flow treated here is small disturbances of a comp.essible, viscous, and heat-conducting p.lytrop.c gas in an unbounded domain with arbitrary source of mass, external body force, and heat addition. p.evious results are thereby revised and extended to a comp.ete and unified theory. The theory p.o- vides a necessary basis and valuable guidance for develop.ng corresp.nding nonlinear theory by clarifying certain basic issues, such as the p.op.r choice of characteristic variables of comp.essing p.ocess and the feature of their governing equations.

Effect of Rotation Rate on Microstructures and Mechanical p.op.rties of FSW Mg-zn-Y-zr Alloy Joints

Friction stir welding （FSW） of Mg-zn-Y-zr p.ates with 6 mm in thickness was successfully carried out under a wide range of rotation rates of 600-1200 r/rain with a constant traverse sp.ed of 100 mm/min. After FSW, the coarse grains in the p.rent material （p.） were changed into fine equiaxed recrystallized grains at the＇nugget zone （Nz）. Furthermore, the coarse Mg-zn-Y p.rticles （W-p.ase） were broken up.and disp.rsed homogenously into the Mg matrix. With increasing rotation rates, the size of the W-p.ase p.rticles at the Nz significantly decreased, but the recrystallized grain size tended to increase. The hardness values of the Nzs for all the FSW joints were higher than those of the p., and the lowest hardness values were detected in the heat affected zone （HAz）. The fracture occurred in the thermo-mechanical affected zone （TMAz） on the advancing side for all the FSW joints in the tensile test, due to the incomp.tibility of the p.astic deformation between the Nz and TMAz caused by remarkably different orientation of grains and W-p.ase p.rticles. The strength of FEW ioint reaches 90% of that of its p.

The effects of the comp.nents of solution for membrane casting and p.ep.ration conditions on the membrane p.rformances are studied in this p.p.r. p.lyacrylonitrile (p.N) was used as p.lymer and DMAC as solvent. The ultrafiltration (UF) membranes whose cut-off of molecular weight is 150000 and flux of p.re water reaches 150-200 ml/(cm2·h) were p.ep.red by selecting p.op.r comp.nents of solution for membrane casting and membrane p.ep.ration conditions.
