Prevalence and virulence factors of Candida spp. associated with blow flies

Objective:To investigate the prevalence of Candida *** the virulence factors of Candida albicans(***) isolated from external surfaces of blow flies collected from Mae Sot,Tak Province,***:The blow flies were collected by sterile sweep nets from three areas in Mae *** isolation was first performed on Sabouraud dextrose agar(SDA) supplemented with chloramphenicol and *** yeast isolates were then identified by using chromogenic agar,a yeast identification test kit,a germ tube formation test and a carbohydrate utilization *** β-hemolysis was determined on 7% sheep blood agar,while phospholipase activity was measured on SDA agar supplemented with 10% egg yolk *** susceptibility testing was determined by broth micro-dilution testing against ketoconazole and amphotericin ***:The prevalence rate of Candida *** the external surfaces of the blow flies was 78.1%.All *** isolated from the blow fly demonstrated b-hemolysin and potent phospholipase activities and 47.1% of *** were resistant to ketoconazole with MIC values 128 mg/m ***:The results indicate that blow flies could play an essential role in the transmission of potentially pathogenic and antifungal resistant *** into the *** investigation on other virulence factors and genetic relatedness among isolates from the blow flies,the environment and clinical specimens is required to confirm this role.

Hand,foot,and mouth disease(HFMD)is a contagious disease mainly occurring in young children,and outbreaks commonly occur among young children in the Asia–Pacific region including ***,the World Health Organization(WHO)monitors HFMD in the Western Pacific region to detect outbreaks and other significant events by the Regional Event Based Surveillance *** is mainly caused by a group of enteroviruses(EVs)transmitted through direct contact(person to person)and indirect contact with contaminated objects(surface-to-hand).However,few studies have examined the surface stability of *** this study,we investigated the stability of enterovirus A71(EV-A71)and coxsackievirus A16(CVA16)on three different dry surfaces(wood,plastic,and stainless steel)using the endpoint titration using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide(MTT)staining of viable cells and real-time polymerase chain reaction(viral genome detection).The results revealed that virus infectivity dramatically decreased within a few hours on dry ***,viral RNA could be detected on dry surfaces for up to 28 *** heat inactivation,both EV-A71 and CVA16 were inactivated after exposure to 60°C for 15 *** on virus stability on different dry surfaces will provide useful information for HFMD transmission control.

Sediment dynamics and temporal variation of runoff in the Yom River,Thailand

The Yom River is one of the four major sediment sources to the Chao Phraya River in *** activities and changes in climate over the past six decades may have affected the discharge and sediment load to some *** the current study,the river discharge and sediment characteristics in the mainstream of the Yom River were investigated using the field observation data from 2011 to 2013 and the historical river flow and sediment data from 1954 to 2014 at six hydrological stations operated by the Royal Irrigation Department of Thailand(RID).The non-parametric Mann-Kendall test and double mass curve were used to analyze the sediment dynamics and temporal changes in the discharge of the Yom *** results revealed that the sediment was mainly transported in suspension,and the bed-tosuspended sediment loads ratio varied between 0 and *** daily suspended sediment load(SSL)in the upper and middle basins had a strong correlation with the daily discharge and could be represented by power equations with coefficients of determination higher than *** daily suspended sediment load in the lower basin did not directly depend on the corresponding discharge because of the reduction in river slope and water diversion by irrigation *** also appeared that the river discharges and sediment loads were mainly influenced by climate variation(floods and droughts).Moreover,the average sediment transport of the upper,middle,and lower reaches were 0.57,0.71,and 0.35 million t/y,*** sediment load in the lower basin decreased more than 50% as a result of changes in the river gradient(from mountainous to floodplain areas).The results from sediment analysis also indicated that the construction of the Mae Yom Barrage,the longest diversion dam in Thailand,and land-use changes did not significantly affect the sediment load along the Yom River.
