High prevalence of occult hepatitis C infection in predialysis patients

BACKGROUND Occult hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection(OCI) may be associated with extrahepatic diseases and it is known that the patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD) who are on hemodialysis(HD) present a higher prevalence of this type of infection than the general population, with a worse clinical ***, there are no data in the literature to assess the presence of OCI in patients prior to the initiation of renal replacement therapy(RRT). Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the occurrence and epidemiological aspects of OCI in patients with Predialysis CKD. We hypothesize that this infection could occur before RRT *** To research the status in predialysis patients when HD patients have high prevalence of *** A cross-sectional study was conducted between 2015 and 2017. Adults with creatinine clearance < 60 mL/min·1.73 m^2(predialysis patients) were recruited to the study. Pregnant and postpartum women, patients with glomerulopathies,and patients showing positivity for serological markers of hepatitis B virus(HBV), HCV or human immunodeficiency virus infection were excluded. Patients were diagnosed with OCI according to test results of anti-HCV antibody negativity and HCV RNA positivity in either ultracentrifuged serum or, if serumnegative, in peripheral blood mononuclear *** Among the 91 total patients included in the study, the prevalence of OCI was 16.5%. Among these 15 total OCI patients, 1 was diagnosed by 14 ultracentrifuged serum results and 14 were diagnosed by peripheral blood mononuclear cell results. Despite its enormous benefits,mining is respon-sible for intense changes to vegetation and soil ***,after extraction,it is necessary to rehabilitate the mined areas,creating better conditions for the establishment of plant species which is *** study evaluated mineral and organic fertilization on the growth,and carbon and nitrogen(N)metabolism of two Crotalaria species[Cro-talaria spectabilis(exotic species)and Crotalaria maypu-rensis(native species from Carajás Mineral Province(CMP)]established on a waste pile from an iron mine in CMP.A control(without fertilizer application)and six fertilization mixtures were tested(i=NPK;ii=NPK+micronutrients;iii=NPK+micronutrients+organic compost;iv=PK;v=PK+micronutrients;vi=PK+micronutrients+organic compost).Fertilization contributed to increased growth of both species,and treatments with NPK and micronutrients had the best results(up to 257%***),while organic fertilization did not show *** Crotalaria had a greater number of nodules,higher nodule dry mass,chlorophyll a and b contents and showed free ammonium as the predominant N form,reflecting greater increments in biomass compared to native *** having lower growth,the use of this native species in the rehabilitation of mining areas should be considered,mainly because it has good development and meets current government legislation as an opportunity to restore local biodiversity.

This study aims to apply a methodology to analyze the regulatory obstacles for the development of thermal power plants in a country. The study uses Brazil as an application case, although mostly of the findings can be useful to other countries. It also discusses other policies and actions by the government that may contribute to the growth of natural gas-fired power plants. Using deductive and comparative research methods, the first part of this method focuses on the stage of thermoelectric power generation in Brazil. The subsequent sections present the role of the integration of gas and electricity sectors, the main obstacles to the expansion of natural-gas power generation, how the country has deal with the expansion of natural-gas power generation, as well as how other obstacles has been faced. In raising the research question, when comparing the research results of selected countries, it should be noticed the impact that the experience and lessons elsewhere have had on policies formulation on Brazil. Our conclusions pointed out that adequate policies for the natural gas-electricity Brazilian market integration make advisable the unification of electricity and natural gas agencies. We recommended developing a mathematical model to support decision-making on natural gas and electricity integration.

Background To control the boll weevil Anthonomus grandis grandis(Coleoptera:Curculionidae),a key pest of cotton in the Americas,insecticides have been intensively used to manage their populations,increasing selection pressure for resistant ***,this study aimed to detect insecticide resistance and assess insecticide control failure likelihood of boll weevil populations exposed to malathion,profenophos+cypermethrin,and fipronil *** Twelve populations of the boll weevil were collected from commercial cotton fileds of the state of Bahia,northeastern *** populations were exposed to malathion,profenophos+cypermethrin mixture,and fipronil,at their respective maximum label dose for field *** replicates of 10 adult beetles were exposed to the insecticides and mortality was recorded after 24 h *** control failure likelihood was determined after 48 *** median lethal times(LT_(50))were observed for malathion and the profenophos+cypermethrin *** to at least one insecticide was detected in 11 populations;three populations were resistant to malathion and profenophos+cypermethrin;seven were resistant to all insecticides *** resistance levels were low(<10-fold)for the three *** 12 populations tested,58%of them exhibited significant risk of control failure for the insecticides malathion and profenophos+*** insecticide fipronil was efficient for the control of the boll weevil in 83%of the *** The results confirm the significant risk of insecticide control failure in the boll weevil populations to the main compounds used in the ***,proper insecticide resistance management plans are necessary for the boll weevil in the region,particularly for malathion and profenophos+cypermethrin insecticides.

Raman Spectra of Nd:La3Ga5SiO14 and Nd:La3Ga5.5Ta0.5O14 Crystals

Single crystals of Nd：La3Ga5SiO14 （NLGS） and Nd：La3Ga5.5Ta0.5O14 （NLGT） were grown by Czochralski method. Both crystals exhibit a langasite structure （space group D32 （P321） with Z = 1）, whose general formula is A3BC2D3O14, where A, B, C and D represent the dodecahedral, octahedral and tetrahedral positions, respectively. The adding of low content of Nd does not change the crystal structure. Although they are isostructural, the distribution of atoms among the symmetric sites is different. While NLGT exhibits a perfect orderly structure, NLGS exhibits an intrinsically disordered structure due to the random distribution of Ga and Si atoms at the C3（2） symmetry sites. To understand what changes occur in the phonon distribution when Ta replaces Si, we recorded and analyzed room temperature polarized Raman spectra. We observe 8A1＋18E modes for NLGS and 10A1＋13E for NLGT crystals. When Si is substituted by Ta, we observe that the wavenumber of some modes related to vibrations involving Ga and O atoms decreases. This agrees with the fact that the Ga–O bonds are shorter in NLGS than in NLGT.

Aims Knowledge of species richness is of prime importance to both basic and applied aspects of ecological ***,quantifying plant species richness in the tropics is potentially time-consuming because of high species *** species richness estimates are also frequently biased,because many rare species are not *** address these problems,the use of a variable area method has been proposed as an alternative to fixed area methods,but its appli-cability to plants with aggregated distributions has been questioned based on simulation *** use empirical data to compare the efficiency and accuracy of a variable area method and a fixed area method for estimating species richness,density and basal area for plants with aggregated distributions,using palms as a model *** Adult palms were sampled in twenty 10×30 m transects in an Atlantic Forest in Rio de Janeiro state,*** individuals were considered in the fixed area method,while in the variable area method only the first six adults in each transect were sampled;in this case,transect length was defined according to the distance of the sixth adult from the beginning of the *** fewer than six individuals were observed in a given transect,transect length was extended up to 50 m to search for additional *** efficiency of both methods was compared based on species rarefaction curves,using the chao 1 statistic(for abundance data).For each species we calculated mean density per transect and basal area,according to each sampling *** effort in terms of the number of individual plants and the area necessary to characterize maximum species richness in each sampling method,as well as mean time taken to sample a single transect,were compared as measures of *** findings An accurate estimate of species richness was achieved using both methods,but in the variable area method,a quarter of the number of individuals and half the area was sufficient

Throughout its lifetime,high-voltage circuit breaker(HVCB)contacts suffer from inevitable degradation processes,especially during the formation of electric *** degraded contacts can reduce the current interruption capacity and increase the chances of operational faults,which might lead to considerable financial ***,the use of efficient evaluating techniques is a key factor to achieve systems *** dynamic resistance measurement(DRM)is a technique that can be used to evaluate the degradation level of HVCB'*** stands out from the usual technique,static resistance measurement,by allowing the assessment of both the main contacts and the arcing contacts(ACs).Usually,the mean resistance or the area under the DRM curve is used to estimate the AC ***,DRM is a non-standardised technique and there are no specified parameters to evaluate the real wear ***,an analysis of alternative parameters extractible from the DRM technique is presented in this study,such as amplitude and variance of the DRM *** results attest the possible use of more than one parameter for the continuous evaluation of HVCB ACs,characterising the DRM as a more complete and precise diagnosis tool.
