Palm oil mill effluent(POME)is defined as the wastewater that contains high concentrations of organics,nutrients and oil and grease generated from the production process of palm ***,proper discharge and management of POME is important to avoid deleterious impact on the *** fact,solid waste generation is a precursor for its disposal issues as most of the solid waste generated in developing nations is dumped into *** has led to the threat posed by the generation of landfill leachate(LL).LL is a complex dark coloured liquid consisting of organic matter,inorganic substances,trace elements and ***,it is essential to effectively treat the landfill leachate before discharging it to avoid contamination of soil,surface&groundwater *** treatment methods comprises of physical,biological and chemical treatment,however,microalgal-based treatment could also be ***,with the benefits offered by microalgae in valorisation,the application of microalgae in POME and leachate treatment as well as biofuel production,is considerably *** paper provides an acumen of the microalgae-based treatment of POME and LL,integrated with biofuel production in a systematic and critical *** pollutants assimilation from wastewater and CO_(2)biosequestration are discussed for environmental *** systems for wastewater treatment with simultaneous biomass production and its valorisation,are *** study aims to provide insight to industrial stakeholders on economically viable and environmentally sustainable treatment of wastewaters using microalgae,and eventually contributing to the circular bioeconomy and environmental sustainability.

Identifications of drug resistance mutations among antiretroviral treatment naive HIV-1 patients in Peninsular Malaysia

Objective: To determine drug resistance mutations and the HIV-1 subtypes among antiretroviral treatment naive HIV-1 patients in Peninsular Malaysia,Methods: A total of 45 samples from four hospitals that provide HIV viral load services were subjected to the amplification of the protease and two third of reverse transcriptase regions of the pol gene by RT-PCR and Sanger sequencing,Drug resistance mutation(DRM) interpretation reports the presence of mutations related to protease inhibitors(PIs),Nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitors(NRTI) and Non-nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitors(NNRTI) based on analysis using Stanford HIV database program,Results: DRMs were identified in 35% of patients,among which 46.7% of them showed minor resistance to protease inhibitor with A71 V and L10 l were the commonest DRMs detected,About 21.4% and 50.0% of patients had mutations to NRTIs and NNRTIs,respectively,CRF01_AE was found to be the predominant HIV-1 subtype,Conclusions: These findings have served as an initial crucial data in determining the prevalence of transmitted HIV-1 drug resistance for the country,However,more samples from various parts of the country need to be accumulated and analyzed to provide overall HIV-1 drug resistance in the country.

Preventive role of chamomile fl owers and fennel seeds extracts against liver injury and oxidative stress induced by an immunosuppressant drug in rats

Aim:The present study was conducted to investigate the protective effect of chamomile fl owers methanolic extract(CFME)and fennel seeds methanolic extract(FSME)on azathioprine(AZA),an immunosuppressant drug,which induced a liver injury and oxidative stress in ***:Rats were divided into 6 groups(8 rats each)and treated orally for 28 consecutive days as *** 1:rats were given normal saline and used as controls;group 2:rats treated with CFME(200 mg/kg);group 3:rats treated with FSME(200 mg/kg);group 4:rats treated with AZA(25 mg/kg);and groups 5 and 6:rats treated with CFME(200 mg/kg)or FSME(200 mg/kg)15 min prior to AZA(25 mg/kg)*** the end of experimental period,blood and liver samples were collected from all groups for biochemical analysis and histological ***:The obtained data revealed that AZA-induced hepatic injury in the rats as evidenced by the signifi cant increase in serum aspartate aminotransferase,alanine aminotransferase,alkaline phosphatase,cholesterol,and direct bilirubin as well as hepatic malondialdehyde level accompanied with signifi cant decrease in reduced glutathione content and total antioxidant capacity in the ***,body weight gain showed the signifi cant decrease and relative liver weight showed the signifi cant increase on AZA *** sequential signifi cant changes in biochemical parameters were accompanied by severe histological changes in the liver tissue,including hepatocytes disorganization with pyknotic nuclei,fatty degeneration,congestion,fi brosis,and bile duct necrosis around the portal *** areas of hemorrhages in blood vessels and in between hepatocytes were also ***,the results showed the potential hepatoprotective effects of CFME and FSME against AZA-induced liver injury and oxidative *** succeeded in restoring the biochemical parameters and improving the histological picture of the *** improvement was more pronounced in the rats pretreated with
