Experimental Study and Thermodynamic Analysis of High Temperature Interactions between Boron Carbide and Liquid Metals

Fabrication of MCCs (Metal Ceramic Composites) and ceramic brazing requires improved wetting properties are often absent in various ceramic/metals systems. This report summarizes a comprehensive study concerning the wetting properties of boron carbide in contact with non-reactive metals such as Cu, Au, Ag, and Sn. In order to improve wetting, three different reactive elements were added to the melts;Si, which has relatively high affinity to C, leads to SiC formation and changes the stoichiometric boron carbide composition (B4C) towards lower carbon content;Ti, which displays high affinity to B, leads to TiB2 formation and free carbon precipitation at the interface;and finally, Al, which forms borocarbide phases at the interface. It was found that Cu is unusual with respect to boron carbide compared the other non-reactive metals. The most important difference is its ability to dissolve ~25 at% of B, which makes B adequate as an additive to Cu in addition to Si, Ti, and Al. When boron was used as an alloying element, its effect on wetting behavior was attributed to altering the boron carbide composition in contact with boron-containing melts. It was concluded that the most important properties of boron carbide that affect wetting phenomena are the relatively low chemical stability and the existence of a wide composition range (B4C-B10C). The first property determines the possibility of boron carbide to react with liquid metals (by dissolution or formation of new phases) and the second offers an additional degree of freedom to improve its wetting by changing the composition of the ceramic phase.

The annual cycle of the pituitary-thyroid axis activity in healthy men under prolonged cold air exposure

The monthly investigations of military guards ((19.1 ? 0.9) years, n = 20) in northern European region (62?N lat.) that daily spent outdoors from 6 to 10 h were carried out during the year (from November to October). In examined subjects, the serum FT4 levels were high enough during all period of research espe-cially from April till October when the hormone levels exceeded norm. The concentration of serum FT3 was rather stable during the year and corresponded to the normal level. At the same time, the levels of total form of thyroid hormones (TT4 and TT3) displaced to lower limit of norm. Thus, staying outdoors of military guards in the North for all the year round is accompa-nied by activization of thyroid hormones use.

Rare Metal Deposits of East Kazakhstan: Geologic Position and Prognostic Criteria

In the article the features of the formation and metallogeny of the geological structures of Great Altai (Rudny Altai, Kalba-Narym, Western Kalba and Jarma-Saur) which are included into the system of the Central Asian mobile belt are considered. The characteristic of the main types of rare metal minefields of the Kalba-Narymsky belt genetically connected with the Perm granitoid magmatism of the post-conflict orogenny stage of activization is given. The rhythmical and pulsation model of pegmatitovy ore formation in the conditions of the half-closed magmatic system, reflecting the phasic development of mineral complexes from graphic and oligoclase-microcline (barren) to microcline-albite and albite-spodumene ore (Ta, Nb, Be, Li, Sn, etc.) is developed. On the basis of the revealed criteria of ore formation recommendations about the direction of the further researches are made.

Apoptosis and endometrial receptivity: Relationship with in vitro fertilization treatment outcome

Apoptosis is an important process in the reconstruction of endometrium within the menstrual cycle. The balance between cell proliferation and apoptosis regulates the periodic repair and shedding of endometrial cells and leads to the menstruation or prepare the mucosal layer of endometrium for the implantation of the embryo. Many factors with pro- and antiapoptotic action, such as B cell lymphoma/leukemia-2 and inhibitors apoptosis proteins families, caspases, tumor necrosis factor receptors, phosphatase and tensin homolog, proliferator-activated receptor gamma, microRNAs and others are differently expressed in the endometrial tissue at phases of menstrual cycle. Receptivity of the endometrium at the period of “window of implantation” is associated with the signifcant increase of apoptosis in endometrium to allow the embryo to be successfully implanted. The impairment of apoptosis regulation in the endometrium at this period often is observed in infertile women with endometriosis, tubal factor, polycystic ovary syndrome, etc .. In many cases the impairment of apoptosis regulation in the endometrium is the main cause of in vitro fertilization （IVF） treat-ment failure in these patients. As of today, the exact mechanisms and factors mediating the apoptotic process in normal endometrium and in infertile women are not fully understood. Herein, the literature data concerning the endometrial apoptosis regulation in general, and in light of the infuence of apoptosis upon IVF treatment outcome are reviewed. The possibility to use some parameters of endometrial apoptosis for prediction of the successful pregnancy achievement in women participating in IVF protocols also is discussed.

The angiotension converting enzyme (ACE) gene I/D polymorphism in different ethnic groups of geriatric age living in the Far North

The study of ACE gene I/D polymorphism has been carried out in elderly, senile and long-liver patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) taking into account their nationality, age and sex. It has been recorded that with the increase of age there is a decrease in the frequency of the genotype ACE*I/*I and a tendency of increase in the frequency of the genotype ACE*D/*D. A comparative analysis of genotypes АСЕ*D/*D and АСЕ*D/*I has showed sex differences in the frequency of homozygous genotype detection. Left ventricular hypertrophy can be observed significantly more often among carriers of genotype ACE*I/*I established by Sokolow-Lyon ECG signs. Association analysis of ACE gene I/D polymorphism has registered significant differences in BMI and blood lipid parameters.

The Study of Natural Solution Protective Activity on H7N9 Virus

Background: One of potentially dangerous problems for a human organism is the new strain of a virus of bird flu-A/H7N9. As it is regular mutation of bird flu virus, it obvious, that of antibacterial preparations is not efficient. Efficiency decreases when the number of agents with multiple stability to antimicrobic remedy vastly increases, the part of associate infections enlarges, and aggression of opportunistic pathogenic flora rises. This reduces the role of the preparations in prevention of epidemics. Therefore, the optimization of only etiotropic therapies does not fully solve the problem. In this connection natural preparations seem extremely promising which strengthen the functional condition of immune system and, thereby, activate protective forces of macroorganism. Objectives: One of such preparations is BAE Synergy Liquid, a natural mineral water which was underwent subtle energetic changes at the natural energetic deposit. Design: An estimation of protective efficiency of naturally modified mineral BAE SL water was performed on white outbred mice-males in models of H7N9 virus. The animals were monitored during 16 days after infection, and survived and fallen mice were counted daily. Results: The results revealed significant effect of the investigated preparation as possible prophylactic care and medical remedy to the mentioned virus. This means that one can be considered as potential effective remedy for human. Conclusions: As significant effect of the immune system resistance was revealed, the experimental model with studied naturally modified mineral water is potentially generalizable.

Sedimentation of Superfine Aerosol by Means of Ultrasound

The article is devoted to a problem of sedimentation of superfine aerosols with a characteristic size of particles, an order of values of micrometers. Acceleration of the sedimentation process is promoted by imposing of an acoustic field that leads to acceleration of coagulation of particles. Besides, pressure of the sound radiation directed down, accelerates gravitational sedimentation of an aerosol. The mathematical model is based on the Smolukhovsky’s equation, describing dynamics of change of distribution function by the sizes of aerosols particles taking into account ultrasonic influence, evaporation (for liquid aerosols) and sedimentation. Influence of introduction of an additional phase on coagulation and sedimentation speed is investigated. Results of a theoretical and experimental study of dispersion parameters and the sedimentation speed of superfine aerosols are presented.

Water-soluble copolymers of p-methacrylamidobenzoic acid(MABA)with neutral comonomers(N-vinylpyrrolidone(VP),N-methyl-N-vinylacetamide(MVAA),N-methacryloyl glucosamine(MAG))and anionic comononer sodium styrene sulfonate(NaSS)were synthesized by radical *** interactions between the prepared copolymers and Tb^(3+)ions in aqueous solutions were studied;the significant influence of chemical structure of a comonomer on luminescence intensity of Tb^(3+)complexes with the copolymers was *** luminescence intensity of Tb^(3+)complexes with the copolymers containing N-vinylamide units(VP,MVAA)is three times more intense than that observed for the complexes between Tb^(3+)and MAG-containing *** the case of NaSS-containing copolymers,the luminescence intensity is controlled by the values of binding constants between Tb^(3+)and MABA and the content of MABA units in a *** studied copolymers and their complexes with Tb^(3+)have low cytotoxicity and a pronounced antiviral activity against human respiratory syncytial virus.

BACKGROUND Oral treatment of glucosamine(GA) combined with chondroitin sulfate(CS) was reportedly effective for pain relief and function improvement in osteoarthritis patients with moderate to severe knee pain in clinical trials. While the effectiveness of GA and CS on both clinical and radiological findings has been demonstrated, only a few high-quality trials exist. Therefore, controversy regarding their effectiveness in real-world clinical practice *** To investigate the impact of GA + CS on clinical outcomes of patients with knee and hip osteoarthritis in routine clinical *** A multicenter prospective observational cohort study included 1102 patients of both genders with knee or hip osteoarthritis(Kellgren & Lawrence grades Ⅰ-Ⅲ) in 51 clinical centers in the Russian Federation from November 20, 2017, to March 20,2020, who had started to receive oral capsules of glucosamine hydrochloride 500 mg and CS 400mg according to the approved patient information leaflet starting from 3 capsules daily for 3 wk,followed by a reduced dosage of 2 capsules daily before study inclusion(minimal recommended treatment duration is 3-6 mo). Changes in subscale scores [Pain, Symptoms, Function, and Quality of Life(QOL)] of the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score(KOOS)/Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score(HOOS) questionnaires during the observational period(up to 54-64wk with a total of 4 visits).
