Structure and Thermoelectric Properties of Nanostructured (Bi, Sb)<sub>2</sub>Te<sub>3</sub>(Review)

The investigation of the structure and thermoelectric properties of nanostructured solid solutions (Bi, Sb)2Te3 p-type has been carried out. The samples were obtained by grinding of original compositions in a planetary ball mill and by spark plasma sintering (SPS). Initial powder has an average particle size of 10 - 12 nm according to transmission electron microscopy, and the size of the coherent scattering region (CSR) obtained by X-ray line broadening. During sintering at Ts = 250°C - 400°C, the grain size and CSR increased, which was associated with the processes of recrystallization. The maximum of size distribution of CSR shifts to larger sizes when Ts increases so that no broadening of X-ray lines at Ts = 400°C can take place. At higher Ts, the emergence of new nanograins is observed. The formation of nanograins is conditioned by reducing of quantity of the intrinsic point defects produced in the grinding of the source materials. The study of the electrical conductivity and the Hall effect in a single crystal allows to estimate the mean free path of the holes-L in the single crystal Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 which at room temperature is 2 - 5 nm (it is much smaller than the dimensions of CSR in the samples). The method for evaluation of L in polycrystalline samples is proposed. At room temperature, L is close to the mean free path in single crystals. Scattering parameter holes in SPS samples obtained from the temperature dependence of the Seebeck coefficient are within the measurement error equal to the parameter of the scattering of holes in a single crystal. The figure of merit ZT of SPS samples as a function of composition and sintering temperature has been investigated. Maximum ZT, equal to 1.05 at room temperature, is obtained for the composition Bi0.4Sb1.6Te3 at Ts = 500°C and a pressure of 50 MPa. The causes of an apparent increase in thermoelectric efficiency are discussed.

Extracellular vesicles(EVs)are membranous vesicular structures released from almost all eukaryotic cell types under different physiological or pathological *** evidence demonstrates that EVs can serve as mediators of intercellular communication between donor and recipient cells or microorganism-infected and noninfected *** disease 2019(COVID-19)disease is caused by infection of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)of host cells in the respiratory system and various extra-pulmonary tissue/organs,resulting in complications of multiple organ *** the cell surface receptor,angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)mediates cellular entry of SARS-CoV-2 into the host cells in patients with *** studies have found that ACE2 can be released with EVs,which have been shown to interfere with the entry of the virus into host cells and thus may be involved in COVID-19 *** addition,ACE2,neprilysin(NEP),and thimet oligopeptidase(TOP)are the key enzymes that regulate angiotensin metabolism by converting angiotensin II or angiotensin I to angiotensin 1-7,the latter of which has protective effects in counterbalancing the harmful effects of angiotensin II in COVID-19 *** review summarizes the recent research progress regarding EV-associated ACE2,NEP,and TOP and the perspectives of their potential involvement in the pathophysiology of COVID-19 disease.

Joint effect of quasicrystalline icosahedral and L1_(2)-strucutred phases precipitation on the grain structure and mechanical properties of aluminum-based alloys

The development of micromechanical devices(MEMS and NEMS)on the basis of nanostructured shape memory alloys is reported.A Ti_(50)Ni_(25)Cu_(25)(at.%)alloy fabricated by the melt spinning technique in the form of a ribbon with a thickness around 40µm and a width about 1.5 mm was chosen as a starting *** parameters were optimized to produce the alloy in an amorphous *** thickness of the ribbon was reduced to 5–14µm by means of electrochemical polishing.A nanostructural state of the thin ribbons was obtained via the dynamic crystallization of the amorphous alloy by application of a single electric pulse with duration in the range of 300–900µs.A microtweezers prototype with a composite cantilever of 0.8µm thick and 8µm long was developed and produced on the basis of the obtained nanostructured thin ribbons by means of the focused ion beam *** deformation of the micromanipulator was achieved by heating using semiconductor laser radiation in a vacuum chamber of scanning ion-probe microscope.

Diabetic neuropathy is a prevalent microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus,affecting nerves in all parts of the body including corneal nerves and peripheral nervous system,leading to diabetic corneal neuropathy and diabetic peripheral neuropathy,*** peripheral neuropathy is diagnosed in clinical practice using electrophysiological nerve conduction studies,clinical scoring,and skin ***,these diagnostic methods have limited sensitivity in detecting small-fiber disease,hence they do not accurately reflect the status of diabetic *** recently,analysis of alterations in the corneal nerves has emerged as a promising surrogate marker for diabetic peripheral *** this review,we will discuss the relationship between diabetic corneal neuropathy and diabetic peripheral neuropathy,elaborating on the foundational aspects of each:pathogenesis,clinical presentation,evaluation,and *** will further discuss the relevance of diabetic corneal neuropathy in detecting the presence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy,particularly early diabetic peripheral neuropathy;the correlation between the severity of diabetic corneal neuropathy and that of diabetic peripheral neuropathy;and the role of diabetic corneal neuropathy in the stratification of complications of diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

The high occurrence rate and difficulties in symptom control are listed as the major problems of oral mucosal disease by medical *** the development of oral mucosal lesions,the oral microenvironment changes,immunity declines,and continuous bacterial stimulation causes wound *** antibacterial drugs are ineffective for oral mucosal *** overcome this problem,a light-responsive antibacterial hydrogel containing sustained-release BMSCs was inspired by the trauma environment in the oral cavity,which is different from that on the body surface since it mostly remains under dark *** the absence of light,the hydrogel seals the wound to form a barrier,exerts a natural bacteriostatic effect,and prevents invasion by foreign ***,mesenchymal stem cells are presented,and the released growth factors and other substances have excellent anti-inflammatory and angiogenic effects,which result in rapid repair of the damaged *** light conditions,after photo-induced shedding of the hydrogel,RuB_(2)A exerts an antibacterial effect accompanied by degradation of the *** in a rat oral mucosal repair model demonstrate that DCS-RuB_(2)A_(2)-BMSCs could rapidly repair the oral mucosa within 4 *** data provide ideas for further analysis of the intrinsic molecular mechanisms and signaling *** together,our results suggest that this light-responsive antibacterial hydrogel loaded with BMSCs can be used for rapid wound repair and may advance the development of therapeutic strategies for the treatment of clinical oral mucosal defects.

This work is a study of the effect of co-doping(ZrO_(2))_(0.9)(Sc_(2)O_(3))_(0.1)solid solution with yttria and/or ceria on the phase composition,local structure and transport properties of the *** solid solution crystals were grown using directional melt crystallization in cold *** show that ceria co-doping of the crystals does not stabilize the high-temperature cubic phase in the entire crystal bulk,unlike yttria *** co-doping of the(ZrO_(2))_(0.9)(Sc_(2)O_(3))_(0.1)crystals increases their conductivity,whereas the addition of 1 mol.%yttria tangibly reduces the *** co-doping of the(ZrO_(2))0.9(-Sc_(2_O_(3))0.1 crystals with ceria and yttria changes the conductivity but *** spectroscopy of the local structure of the crystals identified different types of optical *** found that the fraction of the trivalent cations having a vacancy in the first coordination sphere in the ceria co-doped crystals is smaller compared with that in the yttria co-doped crystals.

The Utility of Diagnostic Imaging in Fish Bone Impaction

Objectives: The purpose of this pilot study was to obtain an Australian perspective on evaluating the utility of plain film radiography and computed tomography (CT) to rule out fish bone impaction in the upper aerodigestive tract in the emergency department (ED) setting. Methods: A retrospective multicentre cohort study was conducted. A total of 73 patients met the inclusion criteria. A subgroup of patients underwent CT. We studied the sensitivity and specificity of x-ray and CT along with other demographic variables to determine the likelihood of true fish bone impaction. Results: Out of the 73 patients, 28 patients had true bone impaction. The sensitivity for x-ray was 42.9% and specificity was 73.3%. The sensitivity of CT was 87.5% and specificity was 71.4%. We found a significant difference in the mean age of presentation for true bone and false bone impaction, P = 0.02. Conclusion: Due to the low sensitivity of x-ray we do not recommend the utilisation of plain film radiography to rule out bone impaction Advances in low dose radiation multidetector CT scanners may replace plain film radiography as a screening tool.
