Wavelet Analyses of Geomagnetic Data regarding Major Geomagnetic Disturbances

The purpose of this study was to analyze the associated spectrum of geomagnetic field,frequencies intensity and the time of occurrence.We calculated the variation of the correlation coefficients,with mobile windows of various sizes,for the recorded magnetic components at different latitudes and latitudes.The observatories we included in our study are USA(Surlari),HON(Honolulu),SBA(Scott Base),KAK(Kakioka),THY(Tihany),UPS(Uppsala),WNG(Wingst)and Yellowknife(YKC).We used the data of these observatories from International Real-time Magnetic Observatory Network(INTERMAGNET)for the geomagnetic storm from October 28-31,2003.We have used for this purpose a series of filtering algorithms,spectral analysis and wavelet with different mother functions at different levels.In the paper,we show the Fourier and wavelet analysis of geomagnetic data recorded at different observatories regarding geomagnetic storms.Fourier analysis hightlights predominant frequencies of magnetic field components.Wavelet analysis provides information about the frequency ranges of magnetic fields,which contain long time intervals for medium frequency information and short time intervals for highlight frequencies,details of the analyzed signals.Also,the wavelet analysis allows us to decompose geomagnetic signals in different waves.The analyses presented are significant for the studies of the geomagnetic storm.The data for the next days after the storm showed a mitigation of the perturbations and a transition to quiet days of the geomagnetic field.

Our paper describes the organizing of database,remarks about SNGO(Surlari National Geomagnetic Observatory)and network infrastructure.Based on the geomagnetic data acquired and stored on the database server,we perform the processing and analysis of geomagnetic parameters through different spectral,statistical and correlation methods.All these parameters are included in the geomagnetic database on server.The web interface for the database meets the different needs of handling the data collected,raw or processed.The server-side programming language used for design is php.This allow us to select different periods for which access to stored data,required for different search filters and different parameters or data from different time periods can be compared.For a more in-depth analysis of the stored data,through JavaScript programming language graphs for different parameters can be drawn.Access to the web interface can be done with or without authentication,depending on the need to ensure the security of certain data collected,stored and processed.The applications are scalable for different devices that will access it:mobile,tablets,laptops or desktops.

BACKGROUND Approximately 65%-78%of patients with a spinal cord injury(SCI)develop any symptom of spasticity.The aim of this study was to investigate the tolerability and short-term effects of radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy(r ESWT)on plantar flexor spasticity in a patient with incomplete SCI.CASE SUMMARY An 18-year-old man with an incomplete SCI completed five sessions of r ESWT.The primary outcomes were the changes in ankle-passive range of motion(APROM)and passive resistive force to ankle dorsiflexion.The outcomes were assessed at baseline(T0),immediately after treatment(T1)and 1 wk after the end of treatment(T2).The A-PROM increased by 15 degrees at T1 and 25 degrees at T2 compared with T0.The passive resistive force to ankle dorsiflexion at low velocity decreased by 33%at T1 and 55%at T2 in the gastrocnemius muscle and by 41%at T1 and 39%at T2 in the soleus muscle compared with T0.At high velocity,it also decreased by 44%at T1 and 30%at T2 in the gastrocnemius muscle compared with T0.However,in the soleus muscle,the change was minor,with a decrease of 12%at T1 and increased by 39%at T2 compared with T0.CONCLUSION In this patient,the findings showed that r ESWT combined with conventional therapy was well-tolerated and could be effective in improving A-PROM and passive resistive force to ankle dorsiflexion in the short-term.Further randomized controlled clinical trials with longer period of follow-up are necessary to confirm the results obtained in patients with SCI.

A theoretical model for pattern discovery in visual analytics

The word‘pattern’frequently appears in the visualisation and visual analytics literature,but what do we mean when we talk about patterns?We propose a practicable definition of the concept of a pattern in a data distribution as a combination of multiple interrelated elements of two or more data components that can be represented and treated as a unified whole.Our theoretical model describes how patterns are made by relationships existing between data elements.Knowing the types of these relationships,it is possible to predict what kinds of patterns may exist.We demonstrate how our model underpins and refines the established fundamental principles of visualisation.The model also suggests a range of interactive analytical operations that can support visual analytics workflows where patterns,once discovered,are explicitly involved in further data analysis.

With the size of the biopharmaceutical market exponentially increasing,there is an aligned growth in the importance of data-rich analyses,not only to assess drug product safety but also to assist drug development driven by the deeper understanding of structure/function relationships.In monoclonal antibodies,many functions are regulated by N-glycans present in the constant region of the heavy chains and their mechanisms of action are not completely known.The importance of their function focuses analytical research efforts on the development of robust,accurate and fast methods to support drug development and quality control.Released N-glycan analysis is considered as the gold standard for glycosylation characterisation;however,it is not the only method for quantitative analysis of glycoform heterogeneity.In this study,ten different analytical workflows for N-glycan analysis were compared using four monoclonal antibodies.While observing good comparability between the quantitative results generated,it was possible to appreciate the advantages and disadvantages of each technique and to summarise all the observations to guide the choice of the most appropriate analytical workflow according to application and the desired depth of data generated.

Visualizing big and complex multivariate data is challenging.To address this challenge,we propose flexible visual analytics(FVA)with the aim to mitigate visual complexity and interaction complexity challenges in visual analytics,while maintaining the strengths of multiple perspectives on the studied data.At the heart of our proposed approach are transitions that fluidly transform data between userrelevant views to offer various perspectives and insights into the data.While smooth display transitions have been already proposed,there has not yet been an interdisciplinary discussion to systematically conceptualize and formalize these ideas.As a call to further action,we argue that future research is necessary to develop a conceptual framework for flexible visual analytics.We discuss preliminary ideas for prioritizing multi-aspect visual representations and multi-aspect transitions between them,and consider the display user for whom such depictions are produced and made available for visual analytics.With this contribution we aim to further facilitate visual analytics on complex data sets for varying data exploration tasks and purposes based on different user characteristics and data use contexts.

Several authors have addressed the importance of mitochondrial function in inflammatory syn-dromes,as it may play a role in the genesis of tissue injury.Sepsis and exposition to environmental particles are examples of inflammatory conditions.Sepsis occurs with an exacerbated inflammatory response that damages tissue mitochondria and impairs bioenergetic processes.One of the current hypotheses for the molecular mech-anisms underlying the complex condition of sepsis is that enhanced NO production and oxidative stress lead to mitochondrial dysfunction,bioenergetic derangement and organ failure.The mechanism of particulate mat-terhealth effects are believed to involve inflammation and oxidative stress.Components in particles that elicit inflammation have been poorly investigated,although recent research points out to the contribution of composi-tional elements and particle size.Oxygen metabolism and mitochondrial function appear to be important areas of study in inflammatory conditions for clarifying molecular mechanisms involved.

SUMOylation Inhibition Mediated by Disruption of SUMO El-E2 Interactions Confers Plant Susceptibility to Necrotrophic Fungal Pathogens

Protein modification by SUMO modulates essential biological processes in eukaryotes. SUMOylation is facilitated by sequential action of the El-activating, E2-conjugating, and E3-1igase enzymes. In plants, SUMO regulates plant development and stress responses, which are key determinants in agricultural productivity. To generate additional tools for advancing our knowledge about the SUMO biology, we have developed a strategy for inhibiting in vivo SUMO conjugation based on disruption of SUMO El-E2 interactions through expression of E1 SAE2uFDct domain. Targeted mutagenesis and phylogenetic analyses revealed that this inhibition involves a short motif in SAE2uFDct highly divergent across kingdoms. Transgenic plants expressing the SAE2UFDCt domain displayed dose-dependent inhibition of SUMO conjugation, and have revealed the existence of a post-transcriptional mechanism that regulates SUMO E2 conjugating enzyme levels. Interestingly, these transgenic plants displayed increased suscep- tibility to necrotrophic fungal infections by Botrytis cinerea and Plectosphaerella cucumerina. Early after fungal inoculation, host SUMO conjugation was post-transcriptionally downregulated, suggesting that targeting SUMOylation machinery could constitute a novel mechanism for fungal pathogenicity. These findings support the role of SUMOylation as a mechanism involved in plant protection from environmental stresses. In addition, the strategy for inhibiting SUMO conjugation in vivo described in this study might be applicable in important crop plants and other non-plant organisms regardless of their genetic complexity.

Imetit Dihydrobromide and Thioperamide Medication in Cough Hypersensitivity Model—The Role of H₃ Receptors

Chronic cough is a troublesome problem and it is frequently associated with diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux, asthma and upper airway diseases—so called diagnostic triade. The magnitude and severity of cough is strongly associated with the ongoing nasal inflammation in subjects with rhinosinusitis and treatment of nasal inflammation leads to the down regulation of pathologically up-regulated cough. Histamine plays a key role in the inflammation of the upper airways of different aetiologies;therefore histamine receptors seem to be promising targets. The aim of our study was to ascertain the effect of H3R agonist imetit and H3R antagonist thioperamide on cough and symptoms of allergic rhinitis (AR) in an animal model of upper airway cough syndrome in ovalbumin sensitized guinea pigs. OVA sensitized guinea pigs (n = 10) were repeatedly challenged with i.n. allergen-OVA to induce allergic rhinitis and to enhance cough reflex according to the validated model of experimental allergic rhinitis. Animals were pre-treated by i.p. administration of imetit (1 mg/kg and 2 mg/kg of body weight) and thioperamide 30 min. prior i.n. OVA administration. Rhinitis evaluation was based on the occurrence of typical symptoms. The effect on cough was assessed from the response to inhalation of citric acid (0.4 M, 10 min), final cough count and cough latency were analysed from the airflow traces, cough motor pattern and the cough sound. AR up-regulated the cough response from 9 ± 2 to 16 ± 1 cough per provocation, med ± IQR, p < 0.05 and shortened cough latency. Imetit (1 mg/kg) suppressed nasal symptoms and decreased number of cough from 16 ± 1 to 12 ± 1;however the data did not reach significance. Imetit (2 mg/kg) significantly suppressed the nasal symptoms, and number of coughs from 16 ± 1 to 6 ± 2, med ± IQR, p < 0.05.
