Problems associated with carbon support corrosion under operating fuel cell conditions require the identification of alternative supports for platinum-based nanosized *** supported on manganese vanadate(Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6))was prepared by microwave irradiation method and characterized using X-ray diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy,and transmission electron *** borohydride oxidation reaction(BOR)on Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) was studied in highly alkaline media using voltammetry,chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance *** electrocatalytic activity of Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) was also compared with that of commercial Pt/C(46 wt%Pt)*** apparent activation energy of BOR at Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) was estimated to be 32 k J mol^(-1) and the order of reaction to be 0.51,indicating that borohydride hydrolysis proceeds in parallel with its ***-term stability of Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) under BOR typical conditions was observed.A laboratory-scale direct borohydride fuel cell assembled with a Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) anode reached a specific power of 274 W g^(-1).Experimental results on Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) were complemented by DFT calculations,which indicated good adherence of Pt to mnV_(2)O_(6),beneficial for electrocatalyst stability.

Spectroscopic and photometric observations of symbiotic nova PU Vul during 2009–2016

A new set of low-resolution spectral and UBVJHKL-photometric observations of the symbi- otic nova PU Vul is presented. The binary has been evolving after its symbiotic nova outburst in 1977 and now it is in the nebular stage. It is found that the third orbital cycle （after 1977） was characterized by great changes in associated light curves. Now, PU Vul exhibits a sine-wave shape in all the light curves （with an amplitude in the U band of about 0.7 mag）, which is typical for symbiotic stars in the quiescent state. Brightness variability due to pulsations of the cool component is now clearly visible in the VRI light curves. The amplitude of the pulsations increases from 0.5 mag in the V band to 0.8 mag in the I band. These two types of variability, as well as a very slow change in the physical parameters of the hot component due to evolution after the outburst of 1977, influence the spectral energy distribution （SED） of the system. The variability of emission lines is highly complex. Only hydrogen line fluxes vary with orbital phase. An important feature of the third orbital cycle is the first emergence of the OVI, 6828A Raman scattering line. We determine the temperature of the hot component by means of the Zanstra method applied to the He II, 4686A line. Our estimate is about 150000 K for the spectrum obtained near orbital maximum in 2014. The VO spectral index derived near pulsation minimum corresponds to m6 spectral class for the cool component of PU Vul.

How to stabilize standard perovskite solar cells to withstand operating conditions under an ambient environment for more than 1000 hours using simple and universal encapsulation

We introduce a simple and universal scalable encapsulation strategy for perovskite solar cells based on thermal vacuum evaporation of mgF2or moO3-xcapping layer followed by sealing the device with glass and UV-curable *** proposed encapsulation method is beneficial to most of the other known encapsulation approaches being fully harmless to perovskite and transporting layers and processible at room *** deposition of the capping layer promotes efficient removal of water,oxygen and organic solvent residuals from the device prior to sealing and could be easily performed using standard equipment for metal electrode *** proposed strategy is transferrable to any lab-scale perovskite solar cell prototypes regardless of their geometry and architecture and results in excellent stability of the devices in ambient air and long operating *** the 1000 hours stability test at ambient air(30%-60% RH),the cells preserved 92.9% of their initial efficiency on average under 1 Sun illumination at constant maximum power point tracking(mPPT,ISOS-L-1) and over 96% under sto rage in the dark(ISOS-D-1),thus evidencing for the high effectiveness of the proposed encapsulation approach.

Formation of Extended Covalently Bonded Ni Porphyrin Networks on the Au（lll） Surface

The growth and ordering of {5,10,15,20-tetrakis（4-bromophenyl）porphyrinato}nickel（II）（NiTBrPP） molecules on the Au（111） surface have been investigated using scanning tunnelling microscopy, X-ray absorption, core-level photoemission, and microbeam low-energy electron diffraction. When deposited onto the substrate at room temperature, the NiTBrPP forms a well-ordered close-packed molecular layer in which the molecules have a flat orientation with the porphyrin macrocycle plane lying parallel to the substrate. Annealing of the NiTBrPP layer on the Au（111） surface at 525 K leads to dissociation of bromine from the porphyrin followed by the formation of covalent bonds between the phenyl substituents of the porphyrin. This results in the formation of continuous covalently bonded porphyrin networks, which are stable up to 800 K and can be recovered after exposure to ambient conditions. By controlling the experimental conditions, a robust, extended porphyrin network can be prepared on the Au（111） surface that has many potential applications such as protective coatings, in sensing or as a host structure for molecules and clusters.

Viability of Stigmas of Pistils in Winter Rape： Peculiarity of Samples with Different Origins

The researches have been carried out in 2011-2012, in the experimental fields of Yuryev Plant Production Institute Kharkiv, Ukraine. The forms of ＂00＂ type （a low content of erucic acid and glucosinolates） and self-pollinated lines--110m-10, 127m-10, 132m-10 were studied; the forms of＂0＋＂ type--selfed lines 124-10, 221-10, 305-10; the forms of＂＋0＂ type--cultivars Victor, Janus, Emerald; forms of ＂＋＋＂ type--cultivars Fyedorovskiy, marens, Uspikh, as well as, self-incompatible forms 5C, 15C-10, 32C-10 and the original sterile form of mutant origin were used. Viability in stigmas of the pistil lasted 3-7 days, in the forms of ＂＋0＂, ＂＋＋＂ type, 7-15 days in the cultivars and forms of ＂0＋＂, ＂00＂ type, 14-21 days in the self-incompatible and sterile forms. A fast loss of sensitivity to pollen by pistil＇s stigma was observed in the forms of＂＋0＂ and ＂＋＋＂ types. On the contrary, in self-incompatible and sterile forms was observed a gradual increase of sensitivity of pistil＇s stigma to pollination and then its gradual fall. A maximum of sensitivity of a pistil＇s stigma to pollen in ＂00＂ and ＂0＋＂ forms was on the 3rd-6th day after castration.

Reported here are two cases of a modified Appleby operation for borderline resectable ductal adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic body, in one of which a R0 distal resection was attended to by excision, not only of the celiac axis, but also of the common and left hepatic arteries in the presence of arterial anatomic variation michels, type Ⅷb. The possibility and avenues of the maintenance of the blood supply to the left hepatic lobe after surgical aggression of this kind are demonstrated employing computed tomography (CT) and 3-D CT angiography. Furthermore, both cases highlight all important worrisome aspects of pancreatic cancer resectability prediction.

Functional and Pathological Influence of Hypothermia on Spike Activity of Cortical Neurons

In sensorimotor cortical slices of guinea pig using local iontophoretic application of glutamate to the soma and dendrites it was found that a decrease of temperature of incubating fluid from 34 to 21°C - 22°C changes the somatic responses to the local injection of glutamate to the dendritic loci, while the responses to iontophoretic application of glutamate to the soma remain unchanged. Hypothermic changes in reactivity to dendritic stimulation start below 30°C and coincide with changes in the spontaneous activity of neurons, both in the direction of increasing and decreasing the frequency of firing in different nerve cells. On hypothermic decrease of spontaneous activity, the latencies of evoked dendritic responses on the soma became more longer, while on hypothermic increase of firing level, somatic spike responses to iontophoretic application of glutamate to dendritic loci appeared with shorter latencies. Hypothermic changes in the physiological parameters of neurons were accompanied by a drop in spike amplitude at the same temperature and with its further decrease. At the same time, there was a decrease of spike reaction to iontophoretic application of acetylcholine below 30°. It is proposed that the reason for hypothermic changes of neuronal activity is decreasing rate of m-cholinergic process at 27°C - 29°C which leads to opening K+ channels of neuronal membranes and hence to attenuation of conductive function of dendrites and to imbalance of K+ ion homeostasis. Peculiarities of hypothermic regulation of neuronal spike activity depend on individual functional properties of cortical neurons.

Supersymmetric microring laser arrays

A coherent combination of emission power from an array of coupled semiconductor lasers operating on the same chip is of fundamental and technological importance. In general, the nonlinear competition among the array supermodes can entail incoherence and spectral broadening, leading to a spatiotemporally unstable and multimode emission pattern and thus poor beam quality. Here, by harnessing notions from supersymmetric(SUSY)quantum mechanics, we report that the strategic coupling between a class III-V semiconductor microring laser array with its dissipative superpartner can be used to limit the number of supermodes available for laser actions to one. We introduce a novel approach based on second-order SUSY transformation in order to drastically simplify the superpartner array engineering. Compared to a conventional laser array, which has a multimode spectrum, a SUSY laser array is observed to be capable of operating in a single(transverse) supermode. Enhancement of the peak output intensity of the SUSY laser array has been demonstrated with high efficiency and lower lasing threshold, compared with a single laser and a conventional laser array. Our experimental findings pave the way towards broad-area and high-power light generation in a scalable and stable fashion.
