Diabetes mellitus(DM) is the third most common noninfectious disease leading to early disability and high mortality. Moreov.r, the number of patients is growing ev.ry year. The main symptom of DM is hyperglycemia. Increased lev.ls of blood glucose activ.te polyol, hexosamine, and protein kinase metabolic pathways cause the intensification of non-enzymatic glycosylation and nitration of macromolecules. This, in turn, leads to the dev.lopment of oxidativ. and nitrativ. stresses and secondary complications, such as different kinds of microand macroangiopathies. Metabolic disorders caused by insulin deficiency in diabetes significantly impede the functioning of a homeostasis system, which change the physical, biochemical, morphological, and functional properties of blood cells. As a result, the oxygen-transport function of red blood cells(RBCs), rheological properties of the blood, and functions of immunocompetent cells as well as the process of apoptosis are primarily affected. Modern pharmacotherapy focuses on the search for new preparations that aim to decrease blood glucose lev.ls. Undesirable side effects and adv.rse reactions caused by synthetic medicines led to the search and inv.stigation of new preparations of natural origin. Medicinal mushrooms play an important role among such new preparations. They are a source of a large number of high-and lowmolecular compounds with pronounced biological effects. Our inv.stigations show pronounced hypoglycemic and anti-anemic action of submerged cultiv.ted mycelium powder of medicinal mushrooms Agaricus brasiliensis(A. brasiliensis) and Ganoderma lucidum(G. lucidum) on streptozotocin-induced DM in rats. Also, we showed that mycelium powders hav. membrane protectiv. properties as ev.denced by the redistribution of RBC populations towards the growth of full functional cell numbers. Hepatitis C v.rus(HCv. has infected ov.r 170 million people worldwide and creates a huge disease burden due to chronic, progressiv. liv.r disease. HCv.is a singlestranded, positiv. sense, RNA v.rus, member of the Flav.v.ridae family. The high error rate of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase and the pressure exerted by the host immune system, has driv.n the ev.lution of HCv.into 7 different genotypes and more than 67 subtypes. HCv.ev.lv.s by means of different mechanisms of genetic v.riation. On the one hand, its high mutation rates generate the production of a large number of different but closely related v.ral v.riants during infection, usually referred to as a quasispecies. The great quasispecies v.riability of HCv.has also therapeutic implications since the continuous generation and selection of resistant or fitter v.riants within the quasispecies spectrum might allow v.ruses to escape control by antiv.ral drugs. On the other hand HCv.exploits recombination to ensure its surv.v.l. This enormous v.ral div.rsity together with some host factors has made it difficult to control v.ral dispersal. Current treatment options inv.lv. pegylated interferon-α and ribav.rin as dual therapy or in combination with a direct-acting antiv.ral drug, depending on the country. Despite all the efforts put into antiv.ral therapy studies, eradication of the v.rus or the dev.lopment of a prev.ntiv. v.ccine has been unsuccessful so far. This rev.ew focuses on current av.ilable data reported to date on the genetic mechanisms driv.ng the molecular ev.lution of HCv.populations and its relation with the antiv.ral therapies designed to control HCv.infection.

Problems associated with carbon support corrosion under operating fuel cell conditions require the identification of alternativ. supports for platinum-based nanosized *** supported on manganese v.nadate(Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6))was prepared by microwav. irradiation method and characterized using X-ray diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersiv. spectroscopy,and transmission electron *** borohydride oxidation reaction(BOR)on Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) was studied in highly alkaline media using v.ltammetry,chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance *** electrocatalytic activ.ty of Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) was also compared with that of commercial Pt/C(46 wt%Pt)*** apparent activ.tion energy of BOR at Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) was estimated to be 32 k J mol^(-1) and the order of reaction to be 0.51,indicating that borohydride hydrolysis proceeds in parallel with its ***-term stability of Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) under BOR typical conditions was observ.d.A laboratory-scale direct borohydride fuel cell assembled with a Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) anode reached a specific power of 274 W g^(-1).Experimental results on Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) were complemented by DFT calculations,which indicated good adherence of Pt to Mnv.(2)O_(6),beneficial for electrocatalyst stability.

AIM: To inquire into a question of an ov.restimation of arterial inv.lv.ment in patients with pancreatic cancer (PC). METHODS: Radiology data were compared with the findings from 51 standard, 58 extended and 17 total pancreaticoduodenectomies; 9 distal resections with celiac artery (CA) excision; and 28 palliations for PC. The surv.v.l of 11 patients with controv.rsial computed tomography (CT) and endoscopic ultrasound data with regard to arterial inv.sion, after R0/R1 procedures (false-positiv. CT results, Group A), was compared to surv.v.l after eight R2 resections (false-negativ. CT results, Group B) and after 12 bypass procedures for locally adv.nced cancer (true-positiv. CT results, Group C).RESULTS: In all of the cases in group A, operativ. exploration rev.aled no arterial inv.sion, which was predicted by CT. The one-year surv.v.l in Group A was 88.9%, and the two-year surv.v.l was 26.7%, with a median follow-up of 22 mo. One-year surv.v.l was not attained in groups B and C, with a significant difference in surv.v.l (P a-b = 0.0029, P b-c = 0.003).CONCLUSION: Arterial encasement on CT does not necessarily indicate arterial inv.sion. Whenev.r PC is considered unresectable, endoUS should be used. In patients with controv.rsial CT an EUS data for peripan-creatic arteries inv.lv.ment radical resection might be possible, prov.ding surv.v.l benefits as compared to R2-resections or palliativ. surgery.

In the present work, disturbances of the half-transparency frequency fbEs of the ionospheric sporadic E-layer are inv.stigated in connection with earthquakes. The fbEs-frequency is proportional to the square root of the maximum ionisation density of the sporadic E-layer. In this work, it is shown that in 2/3 of the cases, two days before a seismic shock with magnitude M > 5.5 and on the day of the shock, an increase of the fbEs-frequency is obtained at sunset hours at distances from the epicenter R km. In contrast, before sunrise, the fbEs-v.lue decreases. The data analysed are obtained by the three v.rtical ionospheric sounding stations“Kokubunji”, “Yamagawa”, and “Wakkanai” during some tens of years.
