Background The genomes of worldwide poultry breeds divergently selected for performance and other phenotypic traits may also be affected by,and formed due to,past and current admixture *** to diverse environments,including acclimation to harsh climatic conditions,has also left selection footprints in breed *** Using the Chicken 50K_CobbCons sNP chip,we genotyped four divergently selected breeds:two aboriginal,cold tolerant Ushanka and Orloff Mille Fleur,one egg-type Russian White subjected to artificial selection for cold tolerance,and one meat-type White *** of selective sweeps were determined in the studied breeds using three methods:(1)assessment of runs of homozygosity islands,(2)F_(sT) based population differential analysis,and(3)haplotype differentiation *** regions of true selection signatures were identified by two or more methods or in two or more *** these regions,we detected 540 prioritized candidate genes supplemented them with those that occurred in one breed using one statistic and were suggested in other *** them,sOX5,ME3,ZNF536,WWP1,RIPK2,OsGIN2,DECR1,TPO,PPARGC1A,BDNF,MsTN,and beta-keratin genes can be especially mentioned as candidates for cold *** factors may be involved in regulating some of these important genes(e.g.,TPO and BDNF).Conclusion Based on a genome-wide scan,our findings can help dissect the genetic architecture underlying various phenotypic traits in chicken *** include genes representing the sine qua non for adaptation to harsh *** tolerance in acclimated chicken breeds may be developed following one of few specific gene expression mechanisms or more than one overlapping response known in cold-exposed individuals,and this warrants further investigation.

Coastal marine management is vital for socio-ecological sustainability of developing,tropical ecosystems,which calls for diverse tools to monitor and assess water *** carbonatedominated habitats off Zanzibar were chosen for study due to potential water quality degradation in a rapidly developing tourist destination heavily reliant on its coral *** reefs are largely unmonitored and subject to local and global stressors.A widely used method for assessing reef health,as an early detection method of ecological changes,is the application of large benthic foraminiferal bioindicators,i.e.,the Fo RAM *** expected to find poor water quality conditions in the unmanaged reefs supported by stress-toelerant(opportunistic)foraminiferal *** dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphate values derived from untreated sewage effluent from stone Town were highly variable(ranging 0.05–3.77 and 0.05–1.45μM,respectively),moderate,and occasionally approached or exceeded critical threshold values for oligotrophic *** analysis of total assemblages indicated an abundance of symbiont-bearing large benthic foraminifera,dominated by prolific Amphistegina species,comparatively low-moderate diversity,high FI values(7.6 on average),and high coral cover.A water quality gradient was reflected by subtle assemblage differences,suggesting that LBF can provide early warning signals of benthic changes,indicating the importance of long-term monitoring programs in vulnerable,rapidly developing coastal ecosystems exposed to increasing pressures.

TP53 codon 72 Arg/Arg polymorphism is associated with a higher risk for inflammatory bowel disease development

AIM: To investigate the association between tumor protein 53(TP53) codon 72 polymorphisms and the risk for inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) ***: Numerous genetic and epigenetic drivers have been identified for IBD including the TP53 gene. Pathogenic mutations in TP53 gene have only been reported in 50% of colorectal cancer(CRC) patients. A single nucleotide polymorphism(sNP) in the TP53 gene resulting in the presence of either arginine(Arg)or proline(Pro) or both at codon 72 was shown to alter TP53 tumor-suppressor properties. This sNP has been investigated as a risk factor for numerous cancers,including CRC. In this study we analyzed TP53 codon 72 polymorphism distribution in 461 IBD,181 primary sclerosing cholangitis patients and 62 healthy controls. Genotyping of TP53 was performed by sequencing and restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of genomic DNA extracted from peripheral blood. REsULTs: The most frequent TP53 genotype in IBD patients was Arg/Arg occurring in 54%-64% of cases(and in only 32% of controls). Arg/Pro was the most prevalent genotype in controls(53%) and less common in patients(31%-40%). Pro/Pro frequency was not significantly different between controls and IBD patients. CONCLUsION: The data suggests that the TP53 codon 72 Arg/Arg genotype is associated with increased risk for IBD development.

Pseudo Jahn-Teller Effect in Puckering and Planarization of Heterocyclic Compounds

The goal of this brief partly review paper is to summarize the results of the works published over the last few years regarding the origin of the out-of-plane distortions (puckering) of heterocyclic compounds. In all the papers devoted to this problem, it is shown that the instability of planar configurations of heterocyclic molecules leading to symmetry breaking and distortions is induced by the pseudo Jahn-Teller effect (PJTE). special attention in this work is paid to the mechanism of suppression and enhancement of the PJTE distortions of heterocycles by oxidation, reduction, and chemical substitutions. It is demonstrated that oxidation of 1,4-dithiine containing compounds leads to suppression of the PJTE and to restoration of their planar nuclear configurations. An example of a dibenzo[1,2]dithiine molecule is used to demonstrate the mechanism of enhancement of the PJTE by reduction. It is shown that the reduction of the neutral C12H8s2 molecule up to the dianion (C12H8s2)2- enhances the PJTE, followed by the s-s bond cleavage and significant structural distortions of the system. The change of the PJTE by chemical substitutions, accompanied either by puckering or by planarization of heterocyclic compounds, is discussed using as examples 1,4-ditinine and its s-oxygenated derivatives.

Characterization of cerebral blood flow dynamics with multiscale entropy

Based on the laser speckle contrast imaging(LsCI)and the multiscale entropy(MsE),we study in this work the blood flow dynamics at the levels of cerebral veins and the surrounding network of microcerebral *** discuss how the phenylephrine-related acute peripheral bypertension is refected in the cerebral circulation and show that the observed changes are scale dependent,and they are signifcantly more pronounced in microcerebral vessels,while the macrocerebral dynamics does not demonstrate authentic inter-group *** also consider the permeability of blood-brain barrier(BBB)and study its opening caused by sound *** show that alterations associated with the BBB opening can be revealed by the analysis of blood flow at the level of macrocerebral vessels.

Computed tomography-based diagnostics might be insufficient in the determination of pancreatic cancer unresectability

AIM: To inquire into a question of an overestimation of arterial involvement in patients with pancreatic cancer (PC). METHODs: Radiology data were compared with the findings from 51 standard, 58 extended and 17 total pancreaticoduodenectomies; 9 distal resections with celiac artery (CA) excision; and 28 palliations for PC. The survival of 11 patients with controversial computed tomography (CT) and endoscopic ultrasound data with regard to arterial invasion, after R0/R1 procedures (false-positive CT results, Group A), was compared to survival after eight R2 resections (false-negative CT results, Group B) and after 12 bypass procedures for locally advanced cancer (true-positive CT results, Group C).REsULTs: In all of the cases in group A, operative exploration revealed no arterial invasion, which was predicted by CT. The one-year survival in Group A was 88.9%, and the two-year survival was 26.7%, with a median follow-up of 22 mo. One-year survival was not attained in groups B and C, with a significant difference in survival (P a-b = 0.0029, P b-c = 0.003).CONCLUsION: Arterial encasement on CT does not necessarily indicate arterial invasion. Whenever PC is considered unresectable, endoUs should be used. In patients with controversial CT an EUs data for peripan-creatic arteries involvement radical resection might be possible, providing survival benefits as compared to R2-resections or palliative surgery.
