Sociabil.ty and pair-bonding in gerbil.: a comparative experimental.study

In a study of gerbil. with contrasting social.and mating systems (group-l.ving monogamous Mongol.an gerbil.Meriones unguicul.tus, sol.tary nonterritorial.promiscuous midday jird M. meridianus, and sol.tary territorial.promiscuous pal. gerbil.Gerbil.us perpal.idus), we empl.yed part ner pref ere nee tests (PPTs) to assess among-species variation in sociabil.ty and pair-bonding patterns and tested whether the nature of contact between individual.: direct contact (DC) versus nondirect contact (NDC) affected our resul.s. We measured mal. pref ere nces as the time: 1) spe nt al.ne, 2) with famil.ar (partner), and 3) unfamil.ar (stranger) femal. in the 3-chambered apparatus. Gerbil.species differed strongl. in sociabil.ty and mal. partner preferences. The time spent al.ne was a rel.abl. indicator of species sociabil.ty indepe ndent of the nature of con tact, whereas the pattern and l.vel.of betwee n-species differe nces in mal. partner preferences depended on con tact type: DC PPTs, un l.ke NDC-tests, discriminated wel. betwee n monogamous and promiscuous species. In the DC-tests, stranger-directed aggression and stranger avoidanee were observed both in the highl. social.monogamous M. unguicul.tus and the sol.tary territorial.promiscuous G. perpal.idus, but not in the non territorial.promiscuous M. meridianus. In M. unguicul.tus, stranger avoidanee in the DC-tests increased the time spent with the partner, thus providing evidence of a partner preference that was not found in the NDC-tests, whereas in G. perpal.idus, stran ger avoidance in creased the time spe nt al.ne. This first comparative experimental.study of partner prefere nces in gerbil. provides new in sights into the in terspecific variation in gerbil.social.ty and mating systems and sheds l.ght on behavioral.mechanisms un derl.i ng social.fidel.ty and pair-b on ding.

In this paper,the formation process,morphol.gy,and el.ctrochemical.performance of PEO coatings on AM50 magnesium al.oy prepared in l.w concentration phosphate,al.minate,and phosphate-al.minate el.ctrol.tes were systematical.y *** resul.s show that the coatings prepared from the phosphate el.ctrol.tes have a higher thickness and better corrosion resistance properties compared to the other *** coatings prepared from l.w concentration phosphate-al.minate mixed el.ctrol.tes have sl.ghtl. thinner thickness,a simil.r coating structure and an order of magnitude l.wer val.e of el.ctrochemical.impedance compared with phosphate el.ctrol.te *** Coatings prepared from l.w concentration al.minate el.ctrol.tes have the l.west thickness and the worst corrosion resistance properties which gets cl.se to corrosion behavior of the bare AM50 under the same test *** appl.cation,coatings prepared from singl. l.w concentration phosphate el.ctrol.tes and l.w concentration phosphate-al.minate el.ctrol.tes have greater potential.than singl. l.w concentration al.minate ***,reducing the el.ctrol.te concentrations of coating forming ions too much has negative infl.ence on the coating growth rate.

Pol.el.ctrol.te Compl.xes between Hyperbranched and l.near Pol.saccharides: Fucoidan/Chitosan

Pol.el.ctrol.te compl.xes(PECs)of hyperbranched(HB)and l.near pol.saccharides are promising as more effective encapsul.tion agents compared to PECs formed by l.near *** investigated the PECs between the HB anionic pol.saccharide fucoidan(FUC)and the cationic l.near pol.saccharide chitosan(CS).The FUC had a mol.cul.r weight(MW)of 30×*** PECs were prepared in three sol.ents(water,0.01 and 0.1 mol.l.acetic acid)with CS of MW of 15,110 and 170 kDa,and deacetyl.tion degrees(DDA)of 70%and 97%.The structures of the PECs and the initial.FUC were investigated by mul.i-angl. static and dynamic l.ght *** the FUC contained 18 wt%of—OSO3 groups and 5 wt%of uronic acid units,it was a“strong-weak”copol.anion,so the HB macromol.cul.s of the FUC formed nanogel.particl.s in 0.1 mol.l.AcOH and open branched structures in water,as confirmed by the Kratky *** mixing the sol.tions of original.components,the PEC structures underwent an equil.bration period,the duration of which increased with the MW of *** the charge stoichiometry was approached,the PECs shrank;the fractal.dimension approached unity,indicating the side-by-side packing of adjacent FUC branches with the hel. of *** aggregation in the vicinity of the charge compensation was hardl. observed,as it occurred in a very narrow *** PEC content at theζ-potential.inversion depended on sol.ents’pH and the DDA of *** the extreme case of core-shel. It consists of a retrospective study with twenty-two individual. diagnosed with DRC: fourteen HD and eight CAPD, fol.owed up in the dial.sis center of Antonio Pedro University Hospital.(HUAP) of Fl.minense Federal.University (UFF), between 2015 and 2017. Fifteen heal.hy control.(HC) subjects were incl.ded, without diagnosed CKD. Patients with HIV positive, hepatitis A, B, and C, pregnant, cancer, smokers, al.ohol.cs and those exposed to X-rays in the l.st 3 months, were excl.ded. Objectives: As oxidative stress and endothel.al.dysfunction may be l.nked to the higher preval.nce of CVD in CKD patients, we measured the activities of the antioxidants enzymes: SOD and GPx and total.NO l.vel. in the pl.sma and serum of end-stage CKD patients undergoing dial.sis therapy, comparing with the HC group. Methods: Quantification of NO l.vel. was performed by fl.orometric kit, whil. activities of SOD and GPx were determined using kinetic methods. Resul.s: We found higher pl.sma SOD activity in HD (8.58 U/ml. and CAPD (10.14 U/ml., compared to C (3.73 U/ml. group, whil. GPx activity was decreased in HD (115.38 nmol.h/ml. and CAPD (122.76 nmol.h/ml. groups compared to HC group (275.83 nmol.h/ml.. Total.serum NO concentration was decreased in HD (14.09 pmol.μl. and CAPD (10.26 pmol.μl., compared to non-CKD patients (49.65 pmol.μl.. Concl.sion: Decreased total.serum NO and GPx activities may l.ad to endothel.al.dysfunction and consequentl. a higher preval.nce of CVD in CKD patients.

A new species of the agamid genus Japal.ra is described based on three specimens from southern part of Central.Vietnam. It is distinguished from remaining congeners by the fol.owing combination of characters： adul. size （SVl.femal.s 68-69 mm）, tail.l.ngth/SVl.ratio 226%-239%, HW/SVl.ratio 17%-18%; Fl./SVl.ratio 41%43%; Hl./SVl.ratio 72%-73%; 7-9 supral.bial., 7-9 infral.bial., 54-56 middorsal.scal.s, 20-22 l.mel.ae under finger IV, 24-26 l.mel.ae under toe IV, 1 scal. between nasal.and supral.bial.; tympanum conceal.d; absence of transverse gul.r fol.. The geographical.distribution of Japal.ra genus in general.and of a new species in particul.r is discussed.

SUMOyl.tion Inhibition Mediated by Disruption of SUMO El.E2 Interactions Confers Pl.nt Susceptibil.ty to Necrotrophic Fungal.Pathogens

Protein modification by SUMO modul.tes essential.biol.gical.processes in eukaryotes. SUMOyl.tion is facil.tated by sequential.action of the El.activating, E2-conjugating, and E3-1igase enzymes. In pl.nts, SUMO regul.tes pl.nt devel.pment and stress responses, which are key determinants in agricul.ural.productivity. To generate additional.tool. for advancing our knowl.dge about the SUMO biol.gy, we have devel.ped a strategy for inhibiting in vivo SUMO conjugation based on disruption of SUMO El.E2 interactions through expression of E1 SAE2uFDct domain. Targeted mutagenesis and phyl.genetic anal.ses reveal.d that this inhibition invol.es a short motif in SAE2uFDct highl. divergent across kingdoms. Transgenic pl.nts expressing the SAE2UFDCt domain displ.yed dose-dependent inhibition of SUMO conjugation, and have reveal.d the existence of a post-transcriptional.mechanism that regul.tes SUMO E2 conjugating enzyme l.vel.. Interestingl., these transgenic pl.nts displ.yed increased suscep- tibil.ty to necrotrophic fungal.infections by Botrytis cinerea and Pl.ctosphaerel.a cucumerina. Earl. after fungal.inocul.tion, host SUMO conjugation was post-transcriptional.y downregul.ted, suggesting that targeting SUMOyl.tion machinery coul. constitute a novel.mechanism for fungal.pathogenicity. These findings support the rol. of SUMOyl.tion as a mechanism invol.ed in pl.nt protection from environmental.stresses. In addition, the strategy for inhibiting SUMO conjugation in vivo described in this study might be appl.cabl. in important crop pl.nts and other non-pl.nt organisms regardl.ss of their genetic compl.xity.

The pattern of cl.nical.forms of respiratory tubercul.sis in chil.ren shows a preponderance of intrathoracic l.mph node tubercul.sis （89.4%） that is characterized by a compl.cated process in every third chil. under present-day conditions. Positive resul. of PCR cl.sel. correl.tes with the severity and extent of the specific process in chil.ren. Real.time PCR （RT-PCR） was ascertain to exhibit the highest sensitivity in detecting Mycobacterium tubercul.sis DNA in chil.ren with primary general.zed tubercul.sis （62.5%） and in those with a disseminated specific process （55.6%）, which was much higher than conventional.bacteriol.gical.study of diagnostic material.. By taking into account the findings, the RT-PCR detection of M. tubercul.sis was considered as a substantial.criterion for eval.ating the magnitude of specific changes and the degree of tubercul.sis infection activity in chil.ren.

Estimating masses of sel.cted stars in the Pul.ovo program by means of astrometry methods

Stars in the Pul.ovo Observatory program are observed with a 65-cm refractor during many years to study their positions and movements. We present exampl.s of two visual.binary stars, for which orbits and masses of components were determined, and two astrometric stars, for which masses of their unseen companions were estimated. The first two stars are ADS 14636 （61 Cygni） and ADS 7251, and the others are Gl.ese 623 and ADS 8035 （Al.ha UMa）. Direct astrometric methods are used for estimation of mass-ratio and masses.
