Nutrition Uptake among Pregnant Women: A Case of Solwezi District, North Western Province

Background: Zambia has a population of 17.4 million people of which 48% are unable to meet their minimum calorie requirement and 35% of the children in Zambia are stunted (ZDHS, 2018). In the 2018 ZDHS report, 31% of women aged 15 - 49 had anaemia. most cases of anaemia in pregnancy are due to micronutrient deficiency and maternal malnutrition. The 2020 Zambia Global Nutrition Report shows an increase in the prevalence of anaemia among women of reproductive age (45%) and low birth weight infants (13.0%) which suggested a need to explore determinants of pregnant women’s nutrition uptake in order to improve the nutritional status of pregnant women particularly those in Solwezi district of the north-western province of Zambia. methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on antenatal mothers aged 15 - 49 accessing routine antenatal care from four selected health facilities in Solwezi district from July 2021 to February 2021. Cluster sampling method was used to select the 4 health facilities and the 98 antenatal mothers were selected using systematic sampling method. Data was collected using a pretested researcher-assisted semi-structured questionnaire and analyzed using the SPSS version 26. Chi-square test was used to determine associations between the independent and independent variables. The level of significance was set at 0.05 and the confidence interval was set at 95%. multiple logistic regression analysis was done to predict associations among variables. Results: The findings revealed that a large proportion of respondents (71.4 %) had high knowledge regarding nutrition during pregnancy compared to (19.4%) and (9.2%) who expressed medium and low knowledge levels respectively. Attitude towards nutrition in pregnancy was positive in the majority, 82 (83.7%) of the respondents, and over half, (55%) of the respondents reported good nutrition uptake during pregnancy. The Gentio metagranitoid presents equigranular and porphyritic facies, modal composition ranging from tonalite to monzogranite with calculated T_(Zr)most samples. Its mineralogy is dominated by quartz and feldspar(77% to 95%), biotite is the only mafic mineral present(2% to 18%) and, titanite, zircon, apatite, allanite are important accessory phases. These rocks range from metaluminous to weakly peraluminous, and have large variation in major and trace elements, and high alkali contents(>6 wt.%). Zircon analyses by LA-ICP-mS and SHRImP yielded a concordia age of 2 119±10 ma for the porphyritic facies and an upper intercept age of 2 111±15 ma for the equigranular facies. The whole-rock Sm-Nd T_(Dm) ages vary from 2.4 to 2.8 Ga with ε_(Nd)(2.1) values between -0.7 and-5.3, indicating crustal derivation from distinct and/or heterogeneous protoliths. Field observations indicate that the Gentio metagranitoid was formed through different pulses of magma. Individual batches were subject to little or even no fractionation process after its emplacement. Although the Gentio metagranitoid crosscuts metamafic and metaultramafic rocks akin to an oceanic arc setting, this pluton is likely originated by partial melting of a more evolved quartz-feldspathic crustal igneous rock in a post-collisional environment, after the accretion of the arcs from the mineiro belt and rocks of the mantiqueira Complex.

*** levels of cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF)and greater amounts of physical activity have been associated with lower intraindividual variability(IIV)in executive function in children and older *** the present study,we examined whether CRF,measured as maximal oxygen uptake(VO2max),and daily volume of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity(mVPA)were associated with IIV of reaction time during performance of the incongruent condition of the Stroop task in younger ***,we examined whether the thickness of the cingulate cortex was associated with regulating variability in reaction time performance in the context of CRF or physical ***:CRF(measured as VO2max),accelerometry-measured mVPA,Stroop performance,and thickness of the rostral anterior cingulate cortex(rACC)derived from magnetic resonance imaging data were collected in 48 younger adults(age=24.58±4.95 years,mean±SD).multiple regression was used to test associations between IIV during the Stroop task and CRF,mVPA,and rACC *** was tested using maximum likelihood estimation with ***:Consistent with our predictions,higher VO2max was associated with greater rACC thickness for the right hemisphere and greater daily amounts of mVPA were associated with greater rACC thickness for both the left and right *** thickness of the right rACC was associated with lower IIV for the incongruent condition of the Stroop *** and mVPA were not directly associated with ***,we did find that IIV and both CRF and mVPA were indirectly associated via the thickness of the right ***:These results indicate that higher CRF and greater daily volume of mVPA may be associated with lower IIV during the Stroop task via structural integrity of the *** controlled trials of mVPA would provide crucial information about the causal relations between these variables.

Dear Editor, The tropical plant madagascar periwinkle Catharanthus roseus （L.） *** is a rich source of plant-derived medicinal ter-penoid indole alkaloids （TIAs）, including the anti-hypertensive ajmalicine, the sedative compound serpentine, and the anti-cancer drugs vinblastine and vincristine. However, the latter two compounds are produced in C. roseus plants only in very low amounts. Elicitors such as hormones （e.g. jasmonates or salicylic acid） activate plant natural defense responses, includ-ing increased secondary metabolite production （EI-Sayed and Verpoorte, 2007; Lackman et al.. 2011）.

本试验目的是评估肉鸡日粮中添加谷氨酰胺(Gln)和维生素E对其肠道黏膜形态学的作用。试验采取2×3因子(维生素E×Gln添加时间)的完全随机设计,维生素E添加水平为10和500mg/kg,Gln按3种情况向肉鸡开食日粮中的添加:即不添加、从出壳后头7d内添加和头14d内添加。肉鸡生长期日粮处理仅由维生素E两种添加水平组成。试验肉鸡共1500羽,设6个处理,每个处理分5个重复50羽肉鸡。在出壳后第7、14、21和41天,每个重复随机取2羽肉鸡扑杀,取十二指肠、空肠和回肠样本各5cm长,经处理后测定肠道黏膜绒毛高度和隐窝深度,并用方差分析所得数据,用Tukey氏检验按5%的显著水平比较平均值。结果表明,十二指肠发育最快,随后依次为空肠和回肠,出壳后第41天,日粮添加10mg/kg维生素E并再添加1%Gln,对肉鸡肠道黏膜的发育具有促进作用。
