Forest management may have significant effects on forest connectivity and natural population *** old-growth single trees may also change natural patterns of genetic variation and spatial genetic *** study evaluated the impacts of forest management using a silvicultural system of seed trees on the genetic diversity and spatial genetic structure of Eremanthus erythropappus(DC.)MacLeish.A complete survey of 275 trees on four plots was undertaken out to compare the genetic variation of a managed stand with an unmanaged *** genotyped all adult and juvenile individuals 60 months after the management and compared the genetic diversity and the spatial genetic structure *** diversity was considered high because of an efficient gene flow between *** were no genetic differences between stands and no evidence of *** clustering identified a single population(K=1),indicating no genetic differentiation between managed and unmanaged *** and juvenile individuals of the unmanaged stand were more geographically structured than individuals from the managed *** was a tendency of coancestry among juveniles at the first class of distance of the managed stand,suggesting a drift of genetic structure possibly caused by *** early responses to management on genetic diversity and stand structure is a first step to ensuring the effectiveness of conservation practices of tree *** sustainability of forest management of *** on genetic diversity,and more accurately,on spatial genetic structure needs evaluation over time to promote effective conservation of the population size and genetic variability.

How reliable is the ReaxFF potential for describing the structure of alkanethiols on gold?A molecular dynamics study

The structures of self-assembled monolayers(SAMs)of short(methyl)and long(hexyl)chain alkyl thiols on the clean gold(111)surface were modeled using for the Au–S interactions either the reactive ReaxFF potential or the well-known nonreactive Morse potential,while for the Au–Au interactions either the ReaxFF potential or an embeddedatom method(EAM).Analysis of the molecular dynamics(MD)trajectories of possible SAM structures suggests that disordering of interfacial Au atoms is definitely driven by the gold–sulphur *** MD results reveal a novel structure where two methanethiol molecules are bound to a gold adatom that has been lifted from the surface at 300 K,and the same kind of RS–Au–SR motif was also observed for hexanethiol at 600 K but not at 300 *** is more,the above motif is only observed for the reactive ReaxFF ***,these results are in clear agreement with recent experiments and more costly first principles-based MD *** findings strongly support the use of reactive potentials such as ReaxFF for gathering an accurate description of Au–S interactions in inexpensive classical MD simulations.

In the last three decades,the understanding of the renin angiotensin system(RAS)has been changed by the discoveries of functional local systems,novel biologically active peptides,additional specific receptors,alternative pathways of angiotensin(Ang)?Ⅱ?generation,and new roles for enzymes and precursor components other than those in Ang?Ⅱ?*** this regard,the discovery that Ang-(1-7)opposes the pressor,proliferative,pro-fibrotic,and pro-inflammatory effects mediated by Ang?Ⅱ?has contributed to the realization that the RAS is composed of two *** first axis consists of the angiotensin-converting enzyme(ACE),with Ang?Ⅱ?as the end product,and the angiotensin type 1(AT1)receptor as the main effector mediating the biological actions of Ang?Ⅱ.The second axis results from ACE2-mediated hydrolysis of Ang?Ⅱ,leading to the production of Ang-(1-7),with the Mas receptor as the main effector conveying the vasodilatory,antiproliferative,anti-fibrotic,and anti-inflammatory effects of Ang-(1-7).Experimental and clinical studies have shown that both axes of the RAS may take part in the pathogenesis of liver *** this manuscript,we summarize the current evidence regarding the role of RAS in hepatic cirrhosis and its complications,including hemodynamic changes and hepatorenal *** therapeutic potential of the modulation of RAS molecules in liver diseases is also discussed.

Granite-gneiss rock outcrop inselbergs are ancient stable ecosystems with old,climaticallybuffered infertile landscapes(OCBILs).Although inselbergs provide key ecosystem services,little is done for their conservation and,so far,a lot of their unknown evolutionary history has already been lost by human *** a fine-scale approach,here we tested if habitat and environmental filtering(the inselberg’s harshness)affect the evolutionary diversity of an Atlantic Forest inselberg in *** recorded all trees with a diameter at breast height≥5cm in 20 plots in four habitat types(total sampled area of 0.8 hectares),from highest to lowest:island,hillside,foothill,and semideciduous forest(matrix).We also collected soil samples for chemical,textural and physical soil *** fitted linear models to test the effects of soil and habitat on plotlevel metrics of phylogenetic diversity and structure,lineage diversity,phylogeneticβ-diversity,and evolutionary *** found that the upper inselberg habitats contain a distinct set of ancient,closely related,harsh-tolerant lineages,as well as a subset of lineages that persist under harsh conditions with a certain degree of water *** inferior inselberg habitats harbor higher lineage diversity than expected by *** strongly predicted evolutionary *** concluded that soil depth,slope,nutrients and texture(environmental filtering)and habitat types and topography(habitat filtering)shape the evolutionary history contained in fine-scale inselberg habitats,which should encourage the conservation of these ancient ecosystems.

AIM: To search for the presence of cis elements in hepatitis D virus(HDV) genomic and antigenomic RNA capable of promoting nuclear export. METHODS: We made use of a well characterized chloramphenicol acetyl-transferase reporter system based on plasmid p DM138. Twenty c DNA fragments corresponding to different HDV genomic and antigenomic RNA sequences were inserted in plasmid pD M138, and used in transfection experiments in Huh7 cells. The relative amounts of HDV RNA in nuclear and cytoplasmic fractions were then determined by realtime polymerase chain reaction and Northern blotting. The secondary structure of the RNA sequences that displayed nuclear export ability was further predicted using a web interface. Finally, the sensitivity to leptomycin B was assessed in order to investigate possible cellular pathways involved in HDV RNA nuclear ***: Analysis of genomic RNA sequences did not allow identifying an unequivocal nuclear export element. However, two regions were found to promote the export of reporter m RNAs with efficiency higher than the negative controls albeit lower than the positive control. These regions correspond to nucleotides 266-489 and 584-920, respectively. In addition, when analyzing antigenomic RNA sequences a nuclear export element was found in positions 214-417. Export mediated by the nuclear export element of HDV antigenomic RNA is sensitive to leptomycin B suggesting a possible role of CRM1 in this transport pathway. CONCLUSION: A cis-acting nuclear export element is present in nucleotides 214-417 of HDV antigenomic RNA.

Dual Scheimpflug imaging as a screening method for occludable angles-a comparison with gonioscopy

AIM: To evaluate dual Scheimpflug analyzer(Galilei) as a screening method for the diagnostic of gonioscopically narrow anterior chamber angles(ACA). METHODS: In 40 eyes of 40 patients with different ACA range, the ACA, anterior chamber volume(ACV) and anterior chamber depth(ACD) were analyzed using the dual Scheimpflug analyzer(Galilei G6 system). Correspondence between these parameters and Shaffer's classification based on gonioscopy were studied. Receiving operator characteristic(ROC) curves and partition analysis were used to determine the efficacy of the Galilei system in screening for narrow angles. Agreement(Kappa statistics), sensitivity, and specificity for each eye, according to Galilei measures, were also assessed. RESULTS: Shaffer's grade(from 0 to 4) were significantly associated with each of the measurements(Pnatomy to be considered a substitute for gonioscopy.
